Site Information and Updates

A place to learn about new features and updates to BrickPicker.com

  1. I'm subscribed to the Daily LEGO Deals - USA, and recently I'm not getting the new post, but this instead (see image). Has something changed? I get about 50% of the new posts, the rest are this message.

  2. After a little banter and then some encouragement from Ed, I'm putting the question out there for my fellow BrickPickers if you have any ideas for Awards that can be earned and given to members? Be sure to check out the Awards page before making a suggestion.

The new forum is LIVE and in what I am calling Beta Mode!! The reason I am calling it beta status is because I know there are still some items that need to be tweaked and figured out yet. Overall, it was a real pain in the butt and hopefully the last time I will ever need to do this. We both truly believe while it was unfortunate to take the forum down for this long, moving forward, the features and ideas we have for this will be worth it. A few things to note (the bad news): All your private messages are not on this forum, you will be starting over from scratch (sorry about that) You will need to add your avatar We are still working out the single sign o…

  4. Introducing Brick Classifieds!!! We are getting closer to releasing what we will call the beta version of the new Brick Classifieds feature here on BrickPicker.com and are very excited about it. To share in that excitement we have decided to release a short introduction video that will give a little more insight as to what we are doing. Our goal with Brick Classifieds is to give buying, selling and trading options that will hopefully work for just about everybody. If you are a big eBay fan, you can advertise your listings for FREE! Same for those of you are prefer to sell on Amazon.com. Within a few short clicks, you will be able to have your listing on our site so t…

  5. Started by Ed Mack,

Hello... We decided to create a "Banned" icon for the forums. It is in reference to being "banned" from LEGO Shop at Home for excessive buying of sets. After the discussion in the LEGO Account Blocked thread(marcandre's idea), I thought it was a good idea to see how many people were banned from shopping on LEGO Shop at Home. By making more people aware of the practice, more members might be able to avoid this unfortunate situation. I want this thread to be used for the discussion of banned situations/members and also to request a BANNED ICON for your forum "awards." In no way is this a mark of dishonor, because it can happen to anybody...at anytime. I am…

  6. Ok, the full January 2014 and February 2014 is now available. Over the next 1-2 days I will continue to comb through it and look for issues/misses/etc. That happens everything month. I have also pushed updated brickfolio code that will now allow those of you outside the USA to select one of the 3 other available datasets to base your brickfolio on. (GBP, EURO, AUD) Just click the Change Currency button on the main Brickfolio dashboard page and it will allow you select the dataset. I just ask for a little patience still with this as every update we look for inconsistencies with the data from these other regions. Trying to find issues with over 10,000 sets takes…

We are going to try a new feature of allowing members to create Private Groups. These will be areas of the forum that do not show up at all unless you are part of that group. These areas will be for those of you that would like to discuss or comment on topics in a more intimate atmosphere without feedback from the general public. We realize everyone has different techniques and views of the LEGO investing world, some that may not agree with the masses and then that creates issues and tons of deleted posts. The private forums will be for those types of topics. Overall they will not be moderated. Ed and I will be the only ones outside of the invited members that can view…

I am creating this thread to start posting some updates or sometimes may solicit some feedback for the upcoming Brickpicker v4.0 update. Progress as been somewhat slow, but continuous for a while. It's funny that I just read the the post by Nathan over @ Rebrickable who just launched his 3rd update of the site. Kudos to him. I feel the exact same way. Actually, I think all developers are just a little bit nuts when it comes to expectations and timelines. This is not going to be an in-depth post, just a kickstarter post to give me a place to where I can go to to share my thoughts and ideas as well as to gather some from all of you. You may have noticed my new…

First, let me apologize for the downtime in the forum we just had. I was not expecting that. I thought I was doing a quick maintenance release to get ready for this 4.1 update of the forum. I guess they just pushed the 4.1 update and luckily it went through without any errors. One cool thing you will want to do is allow the browser notifications. I think it is very cool if you are active in the forum. Below is a large list of updates in the release. The activity stream is also a big update. You can no configure multiple streams for yourself to get the information you look at most often. Key Changes Changes and New Features Include: …

  10. Jeff and Ed: Looks like you're back and running. Congrats. I like the new look, well done. Badges did disappear, search is busted, and a couple of other things I assume you're still working out the bugs. Thanks again, let us know if we can help.

  11. The internet isn't getting any easier. Process and rules are good, nothing wrong with it. Even when you try to follow the rules, most people don't really care. This post and future ones like it are to become information that anyone here on this forum can learn for themselves or share with other users in hopes to make for a better user experience for them as well as for us. This post is about managing your content. On any given month, Brickpicker averages a million emails and can spike up to two million if there exciting things going on. The number of people that think the best way to remove yourself from getting emails is to hit the SPAM button. That is bad and t…

DadsAFOL, I am going to hijack your initial post here to put what I had written up but couldn't post because I had no idea my internet just went down, but you still get the credit for finding it first Today, Ed and I are very happy to announce that the BrickPicker Price Guide now includes current pricing from BrickLink. This has been a request that we have been asked about MANY times over the past few years and there wasn't really all the much we could do. We asked and while there was interest, not much could be done with the old owners of the site. A few days ago, I received a note from the COO of BrickLink asking if we interested in moving forward with what can …

  13. Doing a big upgrade like this will have it's pluses and minuses. Just like anything else, with new technology, new features and apps will be able to be created. With that, there needs to be code and structure changes to make it work better for the future. This is happening right now with the latest forum upgrade. There were a few bugs during the upgrade process and a lot of changes. Everything is being looked into and a lot is being worked on. Index Recent Posts widget, Bottom Post Page Widget, Awards App and Mobile App are all in development right now. The first two in the list should be ready in the next few daysThere is no ETA on the mobile app, but I know it is …

Here is something I have wanted to put together for some time. Working on Brick Classifieds, I realized I had already made a few bits of code that will work well for finding out the value of some of these listings we find on eBay and Craigslist. Is this eBay listing really worth $1799? Go ahead, try out the new tool and find out. I think you will find that it is overpriced!! Use the tool to make people offers on their lots. Send them to the site so they can find out for themselves. It's Very Simple to Use!!! I worked it out so that for many of the listings, you can just paste in their list of set numbers and set titles. When you hit the "Process Set…

  15. I am happy to announce that we were able to work out a deal with Raise.com (a discount gift card) website. We noticed some of you have been using another service, but they really didn't reply to our messages. Raise.com was happy to work with us and looks to have many of the retail shops that we talk about here covered. Some of the deals will be e-codes that only work online and will be given to you quickly. Others will be physical cards that are shipped out to you. Regardless, this is a great way to shave another 5% or more off purchases. Obviously we would like to keep this partnership and that only works if you guys use the links here to show them you want to use …

  16. Admin, What happend to the lot calculator. Since a few weeks the lot calculator forwards you to Ali Express. I use the LOT Calculator often and it is the best tool there is. Please fix this issue. I now need to pres the stop button as soon as I see the lot calculator before it forwards me to ali express. Thanks in advance for checking the issue.

  17. Started by Jeff Mack,

I have brought this up in the past, but now with the way that the world of SEO and Google works we need to create more of our own content. The blog aggregator that I built may eventually penalize us. I am looking for a few Brickpicker's that have an interest in blogging to help keep up on the daily Lego news, announcements, deals and investment stuff. Please let me know if you are interested and have the extra time to work on this.

  18. Started by Jeff Mack,

Plenty of times on the forum, we see members pointing out good and bad deals from Craigslist listings. Recently I started to spend a little more time on the site to see what is going on. Overall I find some pretty cool finds from time to time. All aren't in my area, but I do like to look and see what is around. I put together a simple feature that will allow you to select several Craigslist regions and be able to look at all of them at the same time. You can also filter the listings by region easily to make it a little easier to see what is available in your area. This is a work in progress, but here are some features that I will be adding to it real soon: Keyword…

  19. Started by Jeff Mack,

Ed and I have decided in order to help get the new set review feature off the ground, we are going to offer the first 100 unique members the opportunity to get 500 Brickpoints for submitting an approved review. With the release of this latest site update, it will be the start of more member interactivity. We want our members to have a voice and share their thoughts on the investing potential of all these sets. There is so much to learn from one another. I know I love reviews. Whether it's LEGO, video game or movie reviews I like to read what the different point of views from individuals. Many times it's helped me make a better purchasing decision. We are not lo…

I am very happy to report that both Darth_Raichu and gregpj have agreed to join the moderator group. Both have been members since 2013 and have always made solid contributions to forum. The forum is busy and so are the moderators. Some are busy getting Masters degrees others are busy at work or life or running their LEGO business. I was also getting a lot of pressure to hire a Canadian as a mod, so gregpj is helping me fill that quota Please congratulate these guys and take it easy on them out there!!

  21. One of the other LEGO sites had this feature for a while, but I got a ton of emails and PMs about whether Brickpicker would have something like this. It was hard to say for a while but after 7+ weeks of asking, discussing, etc. I finally was given access to this information as well and created a page to search for inventory in all the local Target locations near you. So a few notable features: You can either obtain the Target DPCI number from the Target Product detail pages, or use the DPCI search link that see available on the page. Try to be as specific as possible with your search phrases Map/Geolocation/Pins - Easily see the color coded pins that surround …

  22. I have been working on adding more pricing/sale information from more retailers than we currently are displaying. I am looking to learn from our NON USA members where you look daily for LEGO deals. While our site is still largely US based other regions have been growing nicely as well and we would like to try and provide more information for you as well. Below are some of the shops I have been looking at for Australia. Let me know if these sites are worth my time to work on, or do you not buy from them at all? If you live in Canada, France, Italy, Spain, anywhere, let me know if there is a store/site/whatever that is worth reaching out to to get LEGO listings. …

Not sure if this will/should be moved and stickied, but we need a thread to say thanks! Yes, thanking other members for such services as: hooking you up with coupons, finding deals, helping with info and much more is needed to show the love around here... I'll start it off and say, Thanks hxckid88, you hooked me up with a much needed B&****** 20% coupon, which will be put to good use! See how easy that was? Now you give it a go!

  24. Started by Covecollectable,

I added my sets my Brickfolio starting at the start of May. I have continued to add sets over the last few months but there does not seem to be any updates to the Brickfolio. All my sets say they were added in May. I looked at the Price guide and it said the last update was June 12th. As I am new I am wondering if there is a delay in the updating, A site issue or maybe a summer break. Any information is appreciated. I do see it states the update is usually the first week of the month but this makes three months there has been no updates to pricing.

  25. Please use this thread to post any possible errors or incomplete data you've encountered on the site. There are over 9000 LEGO sets, so I'm am sure there is some data or facts that are incorrect or incomplete. Jeff and I will take a look at the issue and see if we can correct it. Some old MSRPs are missing, so feel free to let us know if you know the value of some of the older, retired sets. Please help Jeff and I improve the data and information on the site. No issue is too small, so post it here. Thanks... Ed Mack
