We all know the benefits of large sets in our collections, large sets are winners, they are the most sought after, the most rare, the most memorable, and the ones most easily passed on because people may not have the money at a given point in time. They have the added benefit of increasing sale amounts which gets you more money for less time spent selling. In reviewing many of the members with large collections on here (~$50,000+) it seems that a lot of their inventories are in smaller sets (under $75 msrp) and many with really small sets (under $40 msrp). I am curious why there is such disparity between the sets we talk about and want to invest in, and the ones we…

Here is a well written article on those that make a living Building LEGO or doing more than the typical users. There is also a small section on LEGO investing and Brickpicker. http://priceonomics.com/life-as-a-lego-professional/

So this applies to members and guests from Europe, Australia or basically anywhere outside of the US. As a guest visiting this site, it is possible you will view the price guide on brickpicker, think "that's not right" and then never visit the site again. I know because that is what I did, eventually the site won me round by providing a hub of all the latest lego news and the forum can fill a few void hours. (From what I can gather) The reason the price guide is so out is because there is not enough accurate data and I imagine it also needs tweaking which is going to be a whole lot of man hours. I have often thought how I could help out with the U.K data but with so many…

I have purchased my first lot of sets from a Craigslist seller. He had several boxes that he had saved. My question is, how much value does a box add to a used set? Or is it even worth keeping them? These sets are not that sought after, so I'm not sure what to do. Thanks for the help JB

Going through a bulk lot I came across this little gem. For those that don't know, it's a 25th Anniversary chrome brick from this freestyle bucket #3027 from 1998 http://www.brickpicker.com/bpms/set.cfm?set=3027-1 I had it as a child (well still do if I ever get back home to retrieve all my LEGO). Many a castle garrison fought to the last man to defend this valuable brick. Quite a few spaceships used it at the heart of their reactor. And many a desperate pirate tried to escape from the colonies with it. This just brought so many joyous memories to life and reminded me why LEGO is so amazing. The creative spark that a single 2x4 brick ca…

I know this has been discussed in other threads but I thought it would be nice to consolidate everyone's opinion in one place. March is the free Martian Manhunter with $75 purchase. April 1 - 15 is 2x VIP points. How is everyone planning to spread their purchases out? Is there a certain price threshold that will make you wait until the April 2x points or is the Martian Manhunter just too good to pass up? I plan to buy at least one Martian Manhunter so that makes the first decision easy. 2x VIP only comes around every 6 months so planning additional purchases, especially on exclusives, takes more analysis. What is everyone's strategy?

What's yours? Mine is a toss up between the Sandcrawler or the AT-AT. I'm sure as more sets are announced that will change. I know alot of you aren't fans of remakes but LEGO seems to have outdone themselves this year once again.

I was bored and ran across this post in the brickset forums (what is the best LEGO set of all time?): http://www.bricksetforum.com/discussion/13335/what-is-the-best-lego-set-of-all-time#latest The Death Star, Millenium Falcon, and Haunted House were mentioned quite a bit, which didn't surprise me too much, since these are all large LEGO exclusive sets. The one set that was mentioned just as much as these 3 sets that did surprise me though was The Unexpected Gathering. I mean, I personally like this little build myself, but to be mentioned amongst the other big name sets as the best set of all time? That's interesting. I just thought I would post thi…

There were countless debates on here as to how The LEGO Movie would impact the re-seller market. I think we are starting to witness the initial impact with the influx of new users on the daily deals threads. I can't help but notice all the newbie questions and everyone pouncing on every deal that comes in. Meanwhile, the savvy veterans sit back and apply their strategy methodically. I'm not a veteran but I'm definitely noticing a trend on the forums lately. Is this the beginning of a new era of LEGO investing or just a short-term spike in activity because of this crazy week?

Ok so I am stuck with a decision to make. Helms Deep from someone NSIB for 170 (CDN - note CDN retail was 169+13percent tax) or Jabbas Palace at retail 149 (could wait to see if this goes on sale) but lets try and compare like prices for 2 sets that are either retired or seemingly very close.

Lego might have had either luck, or insider information - most likely the latter: there seems to be a minecraft movie in the works. Who is producing it? Roy Lee. Who is that? Well - you have heard about the Lego Movie, did you?

I just finished scanning my morning Twitter feeds and came across this Wall Street Journal tweet about an article by Clemens Bonsdorf... The popularity of "The Lego Movie" may be coming at just the right time for the Danish toymaker, as the company is expected to report an abrupt slowdown in its U.S. business in 2013 after several years of heady gains. Closely held Lego will publish its 2013 financial performance Thursday, after the company issued a press release saying, "Our U.S. sales growth last year was more moderate than the... I do not have a WSJ membership, so if any of you do and want to fill us in, it would be greatly appreciated. Very curious deve…

I was at Target yesterday and noticed that the Rancor Pit sets they had in store had the punch tab type boxes. I know the ones I grabbed from Lego store had the sticker seals. Maybe Lego is switching back to punch tab boxes even for larger sets to avoid theft? I hope that's the case! Anyone else seeing this for other sets?

Hi, I'm new at the Lego investing game, although I have been a reseller for years. My son is a big Lego enthusiast, so this is something we can do together. So far I am averaging about $1000 per month on lego purchases. I spent a lot last month because I was able to get some really great deals locally on some big sets, but now this is really draining my bank account. I am actually buying more than I am selling on Ebay. I haven't sold any of my newly acquired sets, because I am waiting for them to increase in value. From reading this forum, it sounds like its a minimum of 6 months. So this brings me to the question.. how do you guys afford to spend so much on sets that you…

Got a Funhouse escape from TRU in the mail today and it felt lighter than the other ones I received. Opened it up and sure enough, pieces missing and they even took the "comic book"! . Couple questions, 1. How do you check to make sure you haven't bough a set that's been tampered with? Weigh it, feel....? 2. When selling sets, do you usually open the sets and have pictures of the sealed bags or sell it sealed? 3. How do you deal with buyers that claim parts were missing?

Hello I was just hoping to get some input on which is the better deal. I recently purchased 2 79008 on sale for $70 each at Walmart but was curious whether I should return them, and pick up a Grand Emporium they have on the shelf with a slightly damaged box. The prices are about the same but I think the grand emporium is retiring sooner. Any thoughts?

Sold a Helms Deep locally to a lady last week, she mentioned she has a young son looking for it...I added one of those cheap Galaxy polybag from last year as a freebie. Different theme I know but the buyer was very appreciative with the gesture. Made decent enough margin already on the flip so might as well. And today, made a package deal on local ad, $200 cash for: $200 Indigo gift card (verified), Getaway Glider, Melting Room and Cloud Cuckoo Palace. Nice deal already I thought. The seller threw in 2 Lego Movie polybags as bonus Guess I mentioned my 4yr old son and she was being extra nice. My son was happy. Told him the 3 sets are gifts for his cousins …

Hi, I have a stupid question. How do you manage and organize your receipts? Stores from Target, TRU, LEGO Shop at Home, Walmart, Kmart. Store receipt and online receipt are different size. Do you organize by date, by store? and where do you store them at? What I am doing is use the minifig box (60 count box) for store TRU, LEGO store receipt. online receipt in some blinder.
