General Collecting and Investing Forum

Overall forum on thoughts, stories and ideas for collecting and investing your Legos.

  1. There are some key ingredients that set one LEGO set apart from others when talking about "investment potential." Why does one 800 piece set triple in value in two years while another 800 piece set stay around MSRP? Is it the individual theme difference? Piece difference? Minifigure difference? What do you look for in a set that makes it a worthwhile investment set? Now I know some of you

The BrickPicker website is about LEGO 'investing' and collecting, but it is also about making MONEY from LEGO bricks. The LEGO CUUSOO Program enables the MOC(My Own Creation) Builder to submit their creations to LEGO, so that CUUSOO members can vote on them. Once a creation gets a certain amount of votes, it is then presented to LEGO itself for consideration of becoming an actual set. If it becomes an actual LEGO set, royalties are paid to the creator of the set. The first CUUSOO creation that sold to the buying public was the 21100 SHINKAI 6500 SUBMARINE. The set was very well done and reminded me of an Ultimate Collector's Series Star Wars set. The set is very r…

It seems like I'm having a harder time lately deciding whether or not to put my Lego investment dollars into older, rarer sets or buying new sets in multiples. I used to buy mostly older sets, but it seems that the market is getting a bit pricey. What is the best bang for your investment buck?

First of all, love the site! I entered all my sets into my brickfolio and only 32 of my 90 sets are displayed. When I click on "add brickfolio item" it shows the total number of sets I entered but doesn't allow me to view them or edit them (i.e. delete a set). Is there a set cap or something? Am I missing something? thanks

Is there a way to view other members' Brickfolios? I imagine some people want to keep that private, but I think it's fun to see what sets other people are hoarding. Maybe an option to make your Brickfolio public or private?

Here is a list, from the website www.Brickset.com, of the highest selling Lego sets of 2011 (involving 'total revenues,' not units sold) from the Lego magazine, Lego Life: 1. 7498 Police Station 2. 7965 Millennium Falcon 3. 7913 Clone Trooper Battle Pack 4. 7929 The Battle of Naboo 5. 8547 Mindstorms NXT 2.0 6. 7914 Mandalorian Battle Pack 7. 2507 Fire Temple 8. 2260 Ice Dragon Attack 9. 7288 Mobile Police Station 10. 4842 Hogwarts Castle Notice the CITY sets, 7498 Police Station and 7288 Mobile Police Station, on top or close to it. Must be a lot of kids want to be cops. From an investor's standpoint, CITY sets, while very popular, might not always be the be…

So it's May now... Time to talk about Christmas. What's the "it" item going to be? I hazard there are as many answers to this question as there are forum participants, and that they will further be subdivided into "it" for kids and "it" for oversized kids. If you were expecting my own guesses... alright, I'll say Destiny's Bounty (or the four headed dragon) and... hmmm... it depends so much on what goes EOL over summer doesn't it? Or how steeply R2D2 gets discounted. Anyhow, let's bandy this about for the next seven months, shall we?

Not trying to be overly religious here, the website GODSBRICKS.blogspot.comshows some really fantastic religious MOCs. They could be a real money maker for Lego if sold in mass quantities. Thoughts?

I just wanted to mention that BrickPicker is now working with the awesome Lego website, www.REBRICKABLE.com. If you never saw the site, it is a really neat idea. You can input all of your current Lego sets, then the site will tell you which other Lego models you can build, both stock Lego sets or MOC models. Here is my favorite example... http://rebrickable.com/sets/anio/tie-fighter First class Lego website!

Anybody else wonder why some of the mini sets, especially the Star Wars mini building sets, drastically change prices from month to month? Sometimes they go way up in value, then a month later, they lose more than half their value.......then, they go back up. Any ideas why they fluctuate so much?

Fantastic, man sized, Lego 'Woody' from Toy Story films. Built by a Lego Master Builder, this model can be yours for only $10,000.00(or Bets Offer...LOL). In addition to THE PLASTIC BRICK, we have added CHOWREN TOYS to our buying options. CHOWREN TOYS have been around since 2001 and I have personally bought many LEGO sets from Jack and Jason Chow. They run a quality LEGO store and as of June 2009 Chowren Toys LLC is now officially a LEGO independent on-line retailer. If they have a set, you will see their banner next to the other buying options in our LEGO SET GUIDE. Just click on their banner and you can check out what kind of deals they have. Thanks....

I can see Lego prices in general increasing in the future, just from the the increase in oil prices. They are made of Acrylonitrile butadiene styrene (ABS) plastic, which is made from oil. Production of 1 kg of ABS requires the equivalent of about 2 kg of oil (raw material and energy). So any substantial oil price increase from future Middle East conflicts and the like can have a serious effect on Lego prices. The Lego bricks you have will become even more valuable if cruise missiles fly into Iran, so buy them while they are still reasonable. What do you think?
