Over the past 4-5 years, the world economies have struggled. You would think that this would reduce Lego sales and prices, especially in the secondary markets like Ebay. But Lego has record profits and Lego set prices remain strong on auction sites. So my question to you is: Is Lego investing recession proof?

  2. I understand this may be asking much, but is there an all-time lego checklist available anywhere on the web? I understand that BrickPicker has it by year, but is there a complete list of all lego sets in one?

  4. I have always wanted to give them the benefit of the doubt, but with todays pickup - it seems that Walmart intentionaly sells damaged warehouse items at the big discounts. Today I picked up 3 Diagon Alley sets. They were all damaged with various types of damage, at different areas of the boxes (dents, deep creases, a 5 inch puncture/rip in one of the boxes). The box that they were shipped in to the store was fine, so that isn't the problem. These were all damaged beyond anything that you would ever put on a shelf. With this unrelated damage, it seems that they had clearly been put to the side in the warehouse (as damaged). It appears that they may be setting up these grea…

I'm going to this on Sunday. If still available do you think the tin can Luke kit is worth a pick up? I have no idea how these do on secondary market, my instinct would say they would do great! I've never been to a convention before so not really sure how all of it will play but will definitely be visiting LEGO.

  6. Ok people...jump in your DeLoreans on this one! Which LOTR and Hobbit sets will turn out to be the pick-o-the-litter investment-wise like 4840 (The Burrow) has been for Harry Potter (as an example)? I'm at 88 MPH..........................................I'll let you know!

Hi! I am cleaning out my aunt's house and found that she saved every single Lego set that my cousin ever owned. All of them are still in their original boxes, and almost all of them have their original instructions. I am going through them one by one to make sure every piece is where it belongs but this is going to take forever. I also found some boxes that have never been opened. Is ebay the place to go to see those? I have Space system sets 6803 (Space Patrol), 6822 (Space Digger?) and set 6701 (6 Space mini-figures) that are still in their unopened boxes. There's probably more but I have gotten through all the storage boxes yet. Any advice would be appreciated! T…

Neither my Bachelors or my Masters degree was in Economics so can someone explain why some sets have a higher used value than new? Diagon Alley being one. I am sure there is a simple explanation, i am just unaware of it. Thanks in advance.

So I check the site just now to see if the brickfolio values had been updated for this month and saw that indeed it had. I hit the brickfolio link to check mine but hadn't noticed I wasn't logged in. If you do that and are not logged in it takes you to an example page of a brickfolio. The value of the mock page says 142.00 or something like that.......thinking it was mine, I started to panic lol. I finally realized I wasn't logged on and let out a sigh of relief, I almost thought I had a ton of building to do!

Am i missing something? This is a 20.00 set and doubt it will ever reach that price, even after 100 years in the aftermarket.

  12. Since I did not get to pick up any sets I will live vicariously through all the members here.......what did yall pick up on the momemtous day of LEGO sales?

What if The Monster Fighters theme is only a Halloween theme and if is nowhere to be found on retail shelves after October? Has TLG said anything about this (doubtful) or has anyone heard of any rumored 2013 MF sets? I just can see the theme doing well all year around. Then again kids are always into monsters and stuff like that. Who knows.......I sure dont!! I picked up a haunted house at retail price, just didnt feel like waiting around for a sale. Most of the sales are online anyway and I am done for a while dealing with damaged boxes and broken hearts. My amatuer advice is pick up at least one now just in case, then when and if they are still around and go on sale sco…

  15. The Taj Mahal is just one of many examples. When people drop that kind of money for a LEGO set on the secondary market, what is their motivation? Are they building it? Are they hoping it is an investment that will continue to climb in value? Are they just completing a collection and will pay whatever they have to in order to get something? I realize all these scenarios are going to be accurate in several cases, but I am just curious to get some perspective on this. This is something I have always wondered. What do people have in mind when they spend all that money???

  16. I just about had multiple heart attacks when I viewed the entire new mini fig line for Super Heroes 2013. These photos are all super high resolution and just amazing to look at. This is the same place that just unveiled the pics for that awesome new Arkham Asylum set.

I guess people actually build these LEGO things, never heard of the concept myself lol

  19. Besides the Millenium Falcon #10179, what is the one set you have always wanted to get that is too hard to get now or just way too expensive. I am not a rich guy, so that includes a lot of sets for me, but I have always liked the Imperial Star Destroyer #10030. That is just one awesome ship!! Its just getting more and more out of reach MISB that is. I am started to look at the used and may grab one before even used gets to be too much.

  20. My wife yelled at me today because three big boxes came from Amazon filled with LEGO sets from the recent big sales. She asked me how much did I spend? I said that's not important...the important question and the one she should be asking is how much I saved! That didn't fly to say the least...LOL

  21. I budgeted around 120 for my next purchase. Which is the best buy right now between the Epic Dragon Battle and the Maersk Train? I almost picked up 2 trains the other day but couldn't find any on the shelf that were pristine so I went with the haunted house..... .can't be mad at that! I will get both eventually but which one should I pick up now?

  23. So I've heard all the arguments from both sides. The side that says LEGO has stood the test of time as an investment, it is a different commodity, an active collectible that has always been able to reinvent itself due to concept of the toy. Then there's the other side that says look at some of the past collectibles that have eventually flopped, the overall history of collectible return on investments and for the matter history itself, all good things must come to an end, right? While LEGO is a good/great investment now, sites like this and many others are clearly showing that many people worldwide are doing the same thing, buying LEGO and stashing it for a fut…

I note that we all gather our LEGO essentially from two sources - the walk in shop, or the internet. Usually it is a once-off trade where we pay money and get our one product. But what about the other type of deals? Where we wish to 'trade' or 'swop' two, three, four, or more sets towards another? I could sell two sets and have to list them both seperately, having to monitor both and then making the trip twice to the post office. Why can't I move two or more sets in one go to a fellow investor or collector who also has something to exchange in the deal? Does such a site exist? If they do, can they deliver what the LEGO investor really needs? I've trawled the internet a…

I apologize if this is common knowledge among LEGO collectors/investors but if you have MISB sets stored in a closet on shelves, make sure the part of the box that is touching the shelf is not sticking. I have all my MISBs on shelves and thank goodness I check on them daily (more than once lol) because they were begining to stick, I would hate to see someones MISB set ruined and lose money. I put sheets down on the shelves and then put my MSIBs on top of the sheets and that solved my problem.
