Overall forum on thoughts, stories and ideas for collecting and investing your Legos.

I am sure there are some collectors in the same boat as myself. I want sets, but I don't have an interest in the box and the instructions to build can be found on the internet easily these days, I just want the contents. If I can cut down on shipping costs even a little in this process I'm all for it. I use that as a way of discouraging any potential reselling of sets also since most resellers want sets in a mint condition sealed box. I can get sets cheap on occassion based on a variety of factors in my area, I would be happy to unbox and ship them out at cost + shipping and associated paypal fees. I would be willing to do this for other collectors that offer the sam…

  2. I have been looking at the prices for items bought at the SDCC and am curious if others have partaken in events such as these? Are there generally exclusives as some of the local events such as... http://vacomicon.com/ Are there events that are better than others for Lego sets? I pretty much sell anything collectable. (And some crap that i just got cheap.) Are there large events like SDCC on the East Coast? Are there any shows that you would recommend on for LEGO/Toy collectors? (Do any compete with SDCC?) Thanks for the input-

Something important must have snapped in me recently as I've decided I need more lego back in my life, but rather than go totally nuts and buy the first thing I saw I at least had a look for what was on sale. And then I noticed TRU had a habit of doing these "Superpacks" 66411 - containing 9495,9488 & 9489, this coupled with a

Which current sets or themes have the best price per brick? Is it usually non-licensed sets such as Creator?

  6. I mean on the buying end - when I sell to folks in California, I collect sales tax from them and remit it as required by the SBOE (:::looks nervously at the ceiling, expecting to see California agents descending like ninjas...) But when I buy at a retail shop (i.e, Walmart, Target, the Lego Store, etc.) will they honor my resale certificate? Or am I better off not "outing" myself as a reseller? I know I can get the sales tax I pay out deducted from what I have to fork over on my returns, so it's not a huge deal, I'm just curious what other folks do. (Edited for spelling. Spell check told me, and I didn't listen.)

Greetings: Are any of you renting a storage locker for your sets? I'm contemplating it as there is one right up the street from me, but I don't really like the idea of it eating into my profits

Hello my Lego Brothers and Sisters... I joined the Lego VIP program awhile back and do a good bit of shopping on the site, but I'm going to start having the opportunity to go to various Lego stores in my travels (yay!) and I have a newbie-store-shopper question: If I purchase $75, I get a free hot dog cart on the site. I know that holds true in the stores, too, but what happens if I purchase $150? Do I get two hot dog carts (I don't when I order online, it's one per order, so I place orders every $75 or as close as I can hit it). At the stores, is my best bet to just go through the line two or three (or a dozen... changing my clothes if necessary and wea…

How do I get sets before release?

  10. Perhaps because I am a girl, I am over thinking this topic, however, with the success of the Lego Friends series I can't help but wonder about the possibilities for Lego lines for girls. Here's a few I've come up with and they are all Disney related: - Cinderella's Castle - Cinderella's Pumpkin Carriage - Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs little house and the 7 dwarf minifigs - Snow White's Even Queen, witch with the apple, and mirror on the wall set - Little Mermaid Eric's Ship - Little Mermaid Ursula's Lair - Little Mermaid Ariel's secret hideout - Beauty and the Beast Castle - Beauty and the Beast glowing rose scene - Beauty and the Beast Dinner scene with candlestick g…

Hey guys. I just started collecting Star Wars Lego. I accidentally found this site and i didn't know there was a whole Lego community of people collecting and investing Lego's. I'm really in for the collecting sets but wouldn't mind investing in some sets to make money to cover my habits =) How do you guys know what sets to buy or invest for the long short run? thanks D

  12. Hey all. New here and I did search around for a topic similar to this so sorry if its a repeat. Always been interested in Legos since I was little but I guess you could say I've been out of the game for a long time. Anyway, I really like some of the new stuff like the Architecture theme. I didn't realize Lego was such an investing opportunity until I stumbled upon this site. I'm sure you get out of it what you put in, but I suppose what I am looking to do is pretty much be able to buy sets and break even by buying and selling a couple extra. If this isn't clear, basically buying three sets, saving two to sell and keeping one for myself (buy 3 sets for $20 each…

  13. Hi, Today I attended a briefing session in Durham Cathedral (in UK), about a fundraising activity they are having where they are going to build a replica, and raise money by getting people to sponsor the bricks. It is going to be a minimum, yes minimum, of 100,000 bricks, and will be 3.7m x 1.7m x 1.5m (12ft x 5ft6 x 4ft11). It is being designed by a UK (I believe) company that works with Lego and designs/builds their Legoland models. Anyway, they are looking for volunteers to help build it, so thought I would share, though apologies on the lateness of the post as briefs were today and I found out myself last minute, but there may still be time to get involved if y…

I've kicked myself over these two and I bet others have too. With the attention both these sets get I thought they should get a poll on which one to get. Both these sets are $40, both are exclusives to a store and both are in a well known and popular theme. So which one do you like as an investment?

  15. Usually when investing, I use money back ("shop with Amazon points") when purchasing already nicely discounted items. For example, I used $14 Amazon points when purchasing Jabba's Palace last Spring when it was $87 before points. This maximizes cost savings to the fullest. How do you feel about using points when buying items when they are slightly overpriced? For example, I can get a recently retired set for $10 more than it's "ebay going rate" ($120) but I have $58 in Amazon points to offset the higher than liked selling price. In this case, my purchase price would be w/in close striking distance of it's original MSRP. Your thoughts are welcomed.

  18. So if it had to be one or the other.. Batman arkham #10937 or Monster Fighters 10228. Both are same price but I am looking at these to both go up in value myself. Just need some advice to put me over 50% on one or the other thanks in advance as always

  19. Hayabusa 21101 Mini Modulars 10230 These 2 sets have been doing circles in my mind for a long time. Winners or another marketing flop? Anyone stocking up on these? Need some feedback, thanks.

Is there a point in most homes.....where the parents and kids say f-it-throw out all their lego boxes an instructions, drive to walmart to get a big bin and throw all there sets in and mix it up like they are kneading bread? I realize not everyone is neat...nor a collector....but stuffing 30 to 40 different lego/themes in a single tote without box nor instructions? Decided to dabble into craigslist a bit again as we are on vacation this week...wanted to do some hunting in other states...but my head hurts. Between the month old ads not removed...ghosts....no call backs or emails...people not giving pics or set numbers...or even a damn theme?! Blah

  21. Eurobricks posted a link to the newest German LEGO brand catalogue: January-June http://cache.lego.com/Flash/Portal/OnlineCatalog/de-de/Version13/pageflipdata/pdf/lego_januar-juli.pdf July-December http://cache.lego.com/Flash/Portal/OnlineCatalog/de-de/Version16/pageflipdata/pdf/lego_juli-dezember.pdf Nothing really ground breaking in it, but fun to look at. It's also in German, but I don't look at these for the articles.

  22. I stopped into a Walmart that is a bit out of the way for me about 4 weeks ago. Asked one of the associates about their legos and he said they have an entire shelf in the back of legos from a few Christmas's ago. I asked if I could have a look and he said the manager, who was out, would have to help me. I tried to call back a few times to no avail, and with vacation last week I didn't have time to get back there. but I thought I'd have time, they had been there 2 or more years after all right..... right......!!! I went back today and spoke with the manager. here is what she said "Oh they are all gone, they told me to mark them all $5.....($5 fre…

  23. I am having a bit trouble deciding how ethical an idea I have is. So I figured why not take advice from an internet forum. Walmart allows you to buy an item at one of their stores and return it to another store. I can buy something in Vermont and return it to a store in Maine. Nothing unethical about doing this as it is their policy. But is it ethical to buy (5) 9472 Attack on Weathertop at one Walmart for $59.99 and return them to a Walmart that is sold out because they clearance them out for $30. Buy them legitimately and keep the receipt. The lower priced Walmart will give back the $59.99 each and then turn around and sell them for $30. Essentially it would…

I have found a seller who has all the Viking sets and wants to sell them because their kids are going to college. For all 8 sets, they came up with a price of over $500! All the sets are used! Is this even worth negotiating? Seller was using Amazon's prices for the sets.

Just had a thought. Reading through the various threads over the past few months I keep seeing people recommending; "buy this set, buy that set" and with my memory most of them go out of my head as soon as someone mentions the next hot tip. So, here is my Wish List of sets to buy before they go EOL: 7938-1: Passenger Train 8110-1: Unimog U400 3315-1: Olivia
