Site Information and Updates

A place to learn about new features and updates to BrickPicker.com

  1. I will keep this short. Please read my very first community blog entry on the new feature Brickpicker Community Blogs. http://community.brickpicker.com/blog/1/entry-39-introducing-brickpicker-community-blogs/

  2. Started by Jeff Mack,

Some members here have posted that they would like have an Amazon Price Grid type page on Brickpicker that will allow you to view all the discounts on a single page. This would be similar to the page that is on Brickset. I have started to put together a page like this: http://www.brickpicker.com/bpms/amazon.cfm It is a work in progress, but it allows you to see all the sets that are 10% or greater. At the top of the page you can change the currency so that you can see what the local price may be for you. Right now I am also showing the lowest record price for USA and GBR. I will continue to look to obtain the other regions over time as well. I am showing…

We are working on a Daily Deals feature to help build new ways of keeping up with the deals. Keeping the Daily Deals all in one thread has been great. Sure the thread will get big, but based on feedback, we have 200+ members getting responses daily. One of my pet peeves for the daily deals is that members post great tips and tidbits but on most occasions, never post a direct link. What we would like to do is continue to enhance this system to give credit where credit is do and reward people for putting in the effort. If you look at the editor, there is now a yellow/orange dollar sign button for posting a deal. This will display a window where you can post the link …

Hello fellow and future BrickPicker members. I just want to bring to your attention that Jeff and I have launched the new site upgrade. Included in this major site update is the following: - Currency settings - Share Brickfolio - Custom sets - Performance Enhancements - New Navigation - Importing of sets tells you what sets weren't imported These are just a few of the major improvements made to the Brickpicker site. Jeff has been working for months on this major site update. It will lay the basis for many future ideas and improvements. While this update answers many of the most common issues of the site, it is no…

  8. To all BrickPicker members... I just want to bring to your attention(if you are not aware already), that a huge storm is heading towards the middle Atlantic Coast of the United States. The center of the storm is supposed to hit central New Jersey on Monday and remain in the area for days. The storm is supposed to knock down a million trees across the Washington D.C., Philadelphia and New York City areas. I would imagine that there will be millions without power for an extended period of time. Jeff and I both live in central New Jersey and it's safe to say that we will be without power as well. The servers for the site are in Texas, so I don't think the site will hav…

I was on the site today and noticed that there have been over 1000 brickfolios created since April 4th. I just wanted to congratulate Jeff and Ed for making such a successful site and I hope more people will continue to join.

Anyone have any guesses on the next BrickPoints Contest? I am going to guess that the prize is going to be eithe a LEGO Shop at Home giftcard or one of the following: - 10228 Haunted House - 10224 Town Hall - 10225 UCS R2-D2 - 8110 Unimog - 10227 UCS B-Wing - 10232 Palace Cinema Based on the results that Ed got from the survey on a "Hypothetical Contest", looks like the Gift Card is the most popular, though it would pose a couple difficulties, as we also have many international members here who have inflated set costs (I feel for you guys! ). You can see that thread HERE. We will get the to know the actual contest tomorrow, April 1st, …

  12. Well a lot has been going on in the past 24 hours. Certain things are still a mess and I still have a bit of clean up to do. I don't believe that the site has propagated around the world yet, so there are probably a bunch of users that are not able to see the site yet. Hopefully by tomorrow, that will be done and everyone will be back on. Even though things aren't the way I want them, this becomes a good time for me to start making changes that were planned in the future. Here are a few updates: eBay/Price Guide Data: Well I finally learned that the main eBay site and all of it's global sites did a bunch of category changes and did not notify it's third party…

  13. Well Ed and I are happy to finally release the updated set guide page that includes pricing for sold listings for the UK, EU Region and Australia. For a while before actually working on the data, I myself was rather hesitant if it was worth all the trouble adding and the cost, but honestly....WOW!!!, there really is quite a difference for many sets and this definitely was a great upgrade and without a doubt makes Brickpicker the most informative LEGO price guide on the internet. Quick note: Make sure you reload your page to down the lastest style sheets and/or scripts to make sure the page looks correct All pricing is based on native currency, there are no more c…

I was just wondering if there was any plans to add any features back to the site like back in the old days or is this just a message board now?

  15. Disclaimer: This is an opinion piece Brickpicker from an article standpoint is becoming a barking carny yelling "BUY BUY BUY". This site is a GREAT information source and LEGO investment tool for all, that being said I need to see a more unbiased opinion when it comes to the articles. This would greatly benefit the reputation of the site as a trusted source to use. (Anyone that can potentially benefit from click-thru affiliate revenue from this site is not considered an unbiased contributor) I understand that the investment losers might be harder to find in this market, so I can see the ease of saying BUY BUY BUY, but the losers are out there and need to be addresse…

I am just writing to let people know that at any time, the forum may come down and it may come down for a few hours or honestly an unspecified period of time. I may not shut the forum down completely, but may remove the permission to post and reply to or add new topics. Hopefully everything will go smooth, I know there will be some things that are not there at the start and will need to catch up on a few features, but it will eventually get put together. I don't have an ETA for this, but it will be soon. Just be patient with the updated one once it switches over, I am sure there will be a few things that need to be sorted Jeff

What ways are there to earn Brickpoints apart from writing reviews?

  18. I would like to congratulate Mr. Stephen Rockefeller on hitting 5000 BrickPoints before any other member. He has chosen the Brickmaster Imperial Shuttle as a prize an as soon as I can get my butt to the Post Office, I will mail it to him. ;-) I also would like to mention that Jeff has added a BRICKPOINTS LOG that enables you to keep track of your Brickpoints. Don't forget, we still have 25 set review spots left for first time quality set reviews. Those first time set reviews will receive 500 Brickpoints when the contest is completed. So start reviewing and posting on the forums. You can hit 5000 points like Stephen did and get a prize. Thanks...Ed Mack

  19. Jeff and I have been getting a lot of private messages about improving the site. I would like give BrickPicker members a chance to help improve the site and give us some fresh ideas. As you know, we are always tinkering with the site and have some great stuff planned. The problem always is finding the time to implement these changes and improvements. Some things can be changed quickly and easily, others can take months or more. I don't want to give out too much information on future plans, but they will make the site much more social and interactive with other BrickPicker members and more custom and intuitive for the individual. No idea is too small...Please, this i…

A little while back Brickset posted this inventory data for the EU. We weren't sure what would happen with it, so we wanted to wait a while before posting up any page that included this info. It's been a while and they are still posting it on their site, so we are going to make it available here as well. I am working on new a new price guide template and this information will be included there as well. I will be adding the charts to it soon as well. These pages allow you to easily see the themes as a group. You will also be able to see the number of sales for the prior day and the percentage of inventory sold. http://www.brickpicker.com/bpms/eu-inventory.cfm

I noticed that the value of my portfolio went down this month after the October update. I understand why, I have a lot of new sets which tend to go down in value before they go up. I am sure that you old hands understand all this, but it is new for me only having been a member for a couple of months. I also noticed that as I bought and added sets after the October update that my portfolio value went from negative to positive. That was my aha moment. In order to keep my portfolio value positive I need to adding sets to my portfolio. Therefore I went out and bought 15 Fangmechs for $19.99. The portfolio change is positive now. Lesson learned, don't stop buying LEG…

This is something I have wanted to try for a while to help. You should now start seeing a new feature in the sidebar called "Set Trend Tracker" (Work in Progress title, will come up with something more catchy later, maybe like "Brick Tracker???"). What I want to accomplish here is a way for you the member to suggest sets to target for monitoring as far as stock and pricing. There will be another add-on widget to this that will then take the top voted sets and show current tracking information for you to come in and target. Here are a few features You can suggest a set, just click the button, add the set number and name. Admins/Moderators will approve …
