Building LEGO

Talk about the builds you have done. Were they fun, difficult, do you recommend it? Please share!!!

  1. I have been researching on lego building techniques and I found this guide The Unofficial LEGO Advanced Building Techniques Guide http://photos.freelug.org/main.php?g2_view=core.DownloadItem&g2_itemId=33732 I'd like to know more places where I can find information on building techniques, such as videos, books, tutorials, and more. Thanks.

Hey fellow Brickpickers! I'm a huge fan of the "Building LEGO" part of this forum and topics I frequently visit and stay up to date to are the MOC Highlights, Rebuilding the Classics, etc. As for me I am still more of a humble builder but ever since I restarted this hobby I felt this urge to create something on my own or modify LEGO Sets. What this forum always lacked (for me at least) has been a thread where people share their own creations and modifications. Until now these things ended up in the topic "What did you build today" or in other random threads. I'd like to invite you all to share your humble, awesome, small, big, crazy, etc. creations and modification…

How do you MOC? I'm curious where the best place to start is. I know some use digital designers, but I could never get the hang of it. I'm a very hands on type of person, but I don't really know the fastest/cheapest/best way to get a bunch of new bricks to experiment with. Rebrickable likes to point out that you can build a lot from GBHQ, but that's a bit higher than my price point for dabbling. Any ideas?

  4. This thread is basically meant as a way to keep track of LEGO's own free CAD program called Digital Designer (LDD for short) and all the other kinds of digital software used for building models digitally. Whenever there is an update on LDraw for example, I shall make a note here to bring attention to the news. Feel free to ask any question you may have in regards to each bit of software. There are MOCs utilizing whatever pieces at hand to create something unique and then there are alternates using only the parts included from a set to build something else. This thread (I have wanted to start for a while now) is meant to showcase such designs to help inspire your own well as display what can be done within such limited means. Anyway here are a few to get started. 31007 - Racing Car by Peteris Sprogis 70808 - Super Secret Police Spaceship by msx_80 Mobile Frame Zero - 41524, 41525, 41526 by dark_syntax 6866 Wolfsbane by JK Brickworks 31003 Robot by Biczzz 31006 F1 Racer by Biczzz 6913 Speedster by Vinny Turbo 483…

Found an intriguing design or a build that pleasantly catches your attention? Then by all means please feel free to post any MOC you find on the net and would like to share with your fellow members here. If you are talented yourself in the way of MOCs then how about you show it off for everyone to see!

  7. Inspired after reading siddji's topic of Best Site for MOC Modular step by step creations?, I thought it would be a good idea to have a topic listing some great resources to not only help anyone wanting to design their own modular style houses but also inspire a few ideas as well. Anyway, I came across this simple guide from Eurobricks listing the basics of how to generally get started. Resources: Eurobricks Brickhamster

  8. Someone recommended their new favorite LEGO youtube channel (Emmasaurus) on another thread. Thought why not start a place so that others can share their faves with others, discover new ones, and/or chat about it all? Please consider that eventually that the faces behind these channels and websites are people with feelings. AND they may eventually stumble upon this thread AND we all have varying opinions and expectations of such channels and websites. Some search for reviews, others for investment discussions, for moc ideas, etc. I'll kick it off by saying that Emmasaurus is NOT my fave BUT her videos are positive and better than most I've seen. …

My 4yo built 41115 Emma's Creative Workshop. She loves it, and I have to say the little printed post it notes are super cool! Friends sets get some cool tiny printed pieces that seem like they would be stickers in any other series.

  10. I want to know how everyone showcases their person Lego display at home. http://www.tumblr.com/blog/hreed1985 Right now mine is worthless. However I have some mini figures coming in and my collection is always growing so toss me some ideas!

Two of our more popular threads are "What LEGO set(s) did you buy today?" and "What LEGO set(s) did you sell today?" These threads are filled with great information. But we all know LEGO bricks are about "building" LEGO sets and models, so why shouldn't we talk about it on this site as well? I mean, many LEGO sets that are fantastic builds are also investment winners, so why shouldn't people share some of their experiences of build and set quality that might affect LEGO set values, either positively or negatively? Let us know what you built today and your overall thoughts on the set. Don't forget to leave more in depth reviews in our LEGO SET REVIEWS section...

Hi, all i recently went to brickfair 2016 (cool, right!?) and bought 5 modern millatary hemets, and 6 combat vests, and a LOT of brickarms. I tried to build this gun store thing, but it didn't really work out. Any suggestions for a zombie apocalypse moc? Thanks, Jack

Alrighty then. For anyone remotely curious about the mini Voltron design in the other topic, here are instructions for each section based on the original and what I came up with in LDD featuring a Bricklink XML inventory file type of listing for creating a "Wanted List" down below. Just copy the text in the code box under "Inventory list" and paste that data into Bricklink to verify. I used the site's spoiler feature to help make focusing on each area of building easier. If any image seems small try clicking on one to enlarge. Inventory list: TOTAL: 138 pieces (including 'flame sword') LEG LIONS ARM LIONS TORSO LION Ready to form …

It took me a whole lot of planning as well as an understanding of the full sized modular houses but I finally managed to come up with a design utilizing only the pieces included with the three Log Cabin sets I purchased. As it currently stands, it is not a true modular design. However, that can easily be remedied by placing this build across a 16x32 baseplate and inserting four 1x2 bricks with the Technic pin hole in the proper spots but of course that would have used parts not included in the original set(s) itself so they were omitted for this personal challenge of my own design. I was lucky there were just enough tiles to cover the floor and furniture of which I really…

  18. First, let me start by saying that I must give credit where credit is due and I mostly copied this build as best I could from the pictures at this link https://www.flickr.c...N06/6937426891/ Second, I hope this is ok. I've always wanted to attempt this but I'm not very creative. I also wanted to make this my own by altering some things and not trying to make an exact copy. Level 4 (top): reserved for the 75034 Death Star Troopers set with large cannon. Level 3: Emperor's chair with window (will be accompanied by Royal Guards from 75034) Level 2: Stormtrooper's area? I'll place some Stormtroopers from set 75078 on this level. Level 1 (bottom): instead of the tra…

    Started by Guest,

Hi guys, I have just finished another Star Wars MOC. This time I wanted to mess around with the idea of forced perspective and decided to recreate one of my favourite shots from Return of the Jedi. As with all my micro mocs I wanted to stick to the 16x16 base, which in this instance was quite a challenge but eventually I managed to find a way to fit everything I wanted into the scene. The colour palette choice for Jabba's Palace was partly based on the official lego sets of "Jabba's Palace' and 'Rancor Pit' especially the dark grey base for the Palace to sit atop but I decided to go with darker colours for the Palace itself similar to the…

Hi guys and happy new year! I wanted to start my posts this year with not one but two micro landscape builds inspired by Jedha. The first is a reconstruction of the Assault on Jedha complete with Hovertank and At-St. The At-St model is an old build but the hover tank is a new design I am really pleased with. Hi there guys, I havent posted in a while but thats not because I haven't been building, I have just been away with work! I have a couple of builds to share with you starting with this... It is my recreation of the final scenes from Revenge of the Sith. As with all my MOCs I have kept this on a 16x16 base. Here it is in comparison to the actual scene from the film... Quite a fun build this, especially making the Death Star look like it is in the early stages of construction. And I loved the fact I could use the new style Vader and Tarkin (From A-Wing vs Tie Advanced set) as I think they are two really good looking mini figs…

Hi guys, so I have finished another micro moc landscape. This time its of one of my favourite scenes from The Force Awakens. The crashed Star Destroyer is such an iconic image from not only the film but the trailers as well that I just had to make it in lego form. I am really pleased with Rey's speeder. I didn't think I would be able to build it at this scale but actually I think this is a pretty good representation. At only eight pieces I dont think its going to get any smaller either! (I did have one version with one less stud at the back but it looked too blocky) The Star Destoryer is a slight variation on a polybag release with a few twe…
