Trains

Discussion for collecting and investing with Train themed sets.

  1. Started by Seifer,

Hi everyone! Which train would you like to see next in the CITY Trains theme? I'm a fan of the cargo trains because of their multifunctionality and playability, but there are also great passenger and panoramic trains out there just waiting to be built in LEGOs. The CSX Loco The Norfolk Southern Loco Glacier Express train The Rocky Mountainer These are my likes. Which ones are yours?

I cant wait to get my hands on the new 10233 Horizon Express : http://brickset.com/detail/?Set=10233-1. I love my 10219 Maersk Train but I find it uses too many stickers. The new 10233 doesnt look like it relies as much on stickers as the Maersk train does, wich is a really good thing to me because I hate stickers!

I'll bet on 7939 coz: 1. Produced in 2010, 2 years already. 2. Train series with power unit, all time favorite 3. Many special features like mini cars, yellow Lego container, red truck... 4. Yellow color is much better than red (3677) as a "Cargo train" (just my personal point of view) I think it will EOL soon and will raise to over $200 by the end of this year, after Lego announced some new trains for 2013. Any thoughts?

I just checked the LEGO Shop at Home Spain store and the Maersk Train is sold out with no expected back date. Grab a few while you can!

Amazon has these marked at ~93 bucks. Seemed like a pretty sweet deal for 7938 so I picked up. Thoughts on this set? Looks like it came out in 2010 so could it be going EOL soon?

    60197 - Passenger Train

  10. Started by nolanfan34,

Any thoughts on this set as an investment? I haven't collected a ton of trains yet, but as part of a city layout this seems like it could be interesting, particularly paired with the Passenger Train or Horizon Express. As an aside, some sort of large train station for the Creator Modular series would be pretty awesome. I am surprised they haven't done a train station with a bigger piece count yet.

  11. Started by brickelements,

With the New Passenger and Cargo Train out in the wild these sets (IMO) have a very limited shelf life left. Are the new ones better, perhaps. But that is not the question to be asking. If you can find a discount, can you make mad Lego cash on the retireing sets? That my Lego friends is the question worth asking. Lego is nearly sold out of both. We have seen sets go from sold out directly to retirement. I don't see a lot of business sense in keeping the old stock around for TLG. For once Toys R Us does not have them in stock online. BTW Walmart online still has both (7939 - 7938) in stock slightly less than retail +TAX...at those prices not…

Mods, if this doesn't merit a thread, feel free to move. This is less about investment (although this is a good set I think for the discounts people are getting it at), and more about building. Anyone else built this? We popped one open tonight, and instead of 4 straight track pieces, it included 4 sets of 4. So 16 total. That is weird right? Or based on the piece count do they always represent 4 pieces that way in the instructions?

Anyone put lights in this train yet? Trying to get some ideas as how to proceed. Thx

  15. This post is strictly because I'm curious. Why did Lego do off with 9V trains? Was it a safety issue with kids and plugging something in? Will they go back to 9V?

As per tradition since 2005, Lego holds an annual special event known as the Lego Inside Tour and at the end of these if you were one of the lucky few to attend then an exclusive set would be given as a gift commemorating the tour. Here is this year's Inside Tour exclusive. Also, The New Elementary has a review up for your curious perusal. via The Brick Fan

The recent revival of the Horizon Express topic made me think about the future value of this set. The train theme growth stagnated in 2015 and I was wondering what people really expect from this set. I thought that I would list some pros and cons and maybe some other people will have some input too. Pro: The crane dock is very well done and easy to expand upon The engine is excellent, especially if you are from North America. There's a cow There is no helicopter Two switches are included and that makes it easy to start a collection with this train or to make this your second purchase. Con: The "cargo" wagons a…

I have no train set and I'm confused about which trains include the "power controls" and track and which trains are just sold without that stuff. I'd like to buy one starter set that has everything I need including a joystick and some track, maybe with a rechargeable power pack. Does the ghost train come with any of that and can you convert it to a "power" train? Will the Lone Ranger set have the power stuff?

Anyone else think this set will be parted out (especially if discounted a lot) for the track? It appears to have 16 curved and 4 straight PF tracks in "Dark Bley". The curved tracks are quite costly on the secondary market since flex tracks aren't very popular. As noted, retail price is 99.99. Granted, that might be higher price for parting out (unlike other sets with a decent amount of desirable minifigs. E.g. Jabba's Palace)
