Site Information and Updates

A place to learn about new features and updates to BrickPicker.com

  1. So Ed and I spend time together on the weekends and obviously a lot of talk is about the website. This is always a good thing and always very productive. As time goes by on the site and certain things come up, ideas change, new questions come up and we discuss what we should do about it. Keep a steady course or change direction and build a new plan of action. Many people here have been waiting to see what Brick Classifieds is and what it has become. That is all great, but one thing Ed and I have started to talk about is what do you expect out of it and honestly, what do we expect out of it. This is what I am talking about. A brand new site has come out recentl…

  2. For about a year now, we have received a number of requests to do advertising on the site. I never had anything in place to manage it, but since the forum upgrade, I now have a way to allow you to do some self service promoting of your LEGO businesses. We are just going to start simple. Two main areas. One is the header where you can post a large 728x90 Banner that will be in the main header of the entire site. That includes the homepage as well. There will be up to 5 banners that can rotate in this position. The flat rate for this type of banner will be $100 for 30 days. We are also going to offer quite a few smaller 130x100 banners that will be posted at the…

If you would like to add your eBay or Amazon store link to your signature, please send me the link and the name of your store in a PM. I will add our eBay and Amazon tracking code to it and insert it into your signature. Thanks... Jeff

To Brickpicker admin. Your listing for http://www.brickpicker.com/bpms/set.cfm?set=375-2 has a used price of $60 for this set, while the Ebay listings are in the $200-$300 range. Why the difference?

Here are the links members can use to make sure the site get's the revenue from any purchase made through any Amazon site around the world. As you know Ed and Jeff keep this site free to everyone that wants to join, so anything you can do to help is appreciated. We have had a lot of members doing this over the past few days, so hopefully more and more will do so in the future: &tag=brickpicker-21The same would be for all the other Amazon locations, but they have a different tag for each country AMAZON UK: brickpicker-21 AMAZON DE: brickpicker04-21 AMAZON FR: brickpicker03-21 AMAZON CA: brickpicker05-20 AMAZON ES: brick00-21 AMAZON IT: brick0e-21

So, we all know that nowadays 90% of our time online is through mobile devices for most of us. I guess my question and topic of discussion is for Jeff and brickpicker creators. Why doesn't the brick picker app have access to not only the forum but all the other features from the site? Including access to brickfolio. It would be so convenient to check all that through the app while at the store when u run into a good deal or are trying to decide what set to purchase next!

  7. Started by Ed Mack,

Hello fellow BrickPickers... Starting October 1, 2014, BrickPicker will be starting a BrickPicker Blog Group. In the past, we utilized blog contests to acquire new content. We would like to improve on that method and actually pay experienced and knowledgeable BrickPicker members to write new content for the site. The content will be similar to older blog articles and reviews, with a heavy emphasis on LEGO investing...but any quality LEGO topic can qualify. Qualified members will earn a $5 Gift Card to Amazon, LEGO S@H, etc... for every 1000 words/5000 characters in the content that is submitted and approved by Jeff and myself. There is a new application i…

  8. Back in the early Fall, Ed and I were approached by Krause Publishing to develop a LEGO Collecting and Price Guide book. Not sure how many of you have ever been involved with putting a book together, but it is quite a task. For months Ed worked to the early morning hours putting the content together while I have taken thousands of photos and organized data. At this point, a lot of what we needed to submit has been handed over and the full production of the book is in progress. Now you all can understand why I have been running that other thread looking for some photos for some sets. If you have a little time, please look at that list and contact me if you have the boxe…

  9. Here is Version 1.0 of the Brickpicker LEGO Stock Tracker. There will be a few different pages and trackers released over the coming days. This one here will be one that is updated very frequently. This list here will not grow to 100 sets or anything like that. I want to keep it focused on key sets that are desirable and sought after. This tracker will also be enhanced over the next few days to setup alerts via the site as well as email and SMS. I have included the current price on the site as well as an alert icon if the current price is higher that retail MSRP. You will also see how long ago the in-stock status was checked. This page also works well on mobile dev…

  10. Hello everyone, Ed and I are calling out to all of our members and visitors to ask for people that can take high quality photos of Built or Boxed LEGO sets. We are technically looking for hundreds of sets. Please post here or get in touch with me if you are someone that is decent/good/great photographer and can take a lot of photos of sets. They need to be clean images, not images where the flash is blurring out the box. You need to be the 100% owner of these images. Right now we are really looking for great photos of #10179 Millennium Falcon. This project is not something that we can just go out and grab images off the internet. We are working with a group of p…

A new Leaderboard feature has made it's way to the forum. If you ever wanted to see who the heavy posters, good posters and what some of the best content is, check out the new feature here. http://community.brickpicker.com/leaderboard/

  13. FORUM RULES, REGULATIONS, FACTS AND ETIQUETTE: BE RESPECTFUL: Brickpickers enjoy this site for a variety of reasons, but primarily because it provides a safe, non-threatening environment to share their LEGO investing thoughts. Attacks on fellow BrickPickers will not be tolerated. No bullying, flaming, stalking or discrimination will be allowed. KEEP ON TOPIC: Try to keep threads on topic. Hi-jacking threads on purpose is tacky and frowned upon. NO ILLEGAL OR QUESTIONABLE ACTIVITY: Please refrain from posting ideas that could be considered illegal or unethical in nature. There has been a trend we have been seeing lately and I would like to address it. First and foremost this is a Lego investing website. People read the forums and join this site to gain valuable knowledge. That being said some members have decided to post some quite off topic threads, I am guilty of this as well. There are plenty of off topic threads to add to if you feel the need to discuss something else besides LEGO. Please do not feel that since someone started a topic for example what kind of car do you drive, that there needs to be a topic started for every aspect of everyday life. There are plenty of websites where all that other stuff can be discussed. Like I've sa…

  16. Started by Ed Mack,

As Jeff and I mentioned yesterday, the new IP Board forum software has a module which enables private subforums. Jeff and I purchased this module so that members can once again discuss NON LEGO investing topics in a forum that works in conjunction with the normal Brickpicker forum, yet is accessible to only members which would like to view it. It will not interfere with normal LEGO discussions or forum topics, yet for those who are members, you will see the forum activity pop up on your screen. This should satisfy the many requests we received from members about reinstating this type of discussion on a LEGO based site. You can have your cake and eat it too as they sa…

To all BrickPicker members and guests... As my brother, Jeff, stated earlier, we are a new and rapidly improving site about Lego 'investing' and collecting. If you feel there is anything we need to change or add, please feel free to message us. It is a work in progress and new ideas are always welcome. Feel free to ask us any questions about the site or various Lego sets/values. There are over 8400 Lego sets in our database and sometimes mistakes happen. If you have any questions or opinions about various Lego sets, displays, or minifigures, let us know. We will help in any way we can. Thanks... Ed Mack

I wanted to create a new thread in order to give progress on my site updates. I want explain a bit on what happened and what I am doing. What happened with the site? Honestly nothing really exciting or dramatic, overall in the end, I did not want to support the host I was with for the past four years after not really offering too much help with managed servers. They would spend 30 seconds looking, say they can ping the server so its up and then just say, "hey not my problem". I was on aging hardware, paying the same amount of money, so I took the opportunity to move to a new host with better/faster hardware and a staff that does help to support you when run int…

  19. Hi, We fully understand the vast majority of Brickpicker members are decent people. This thread is really directed toward those small number of members who consistently have their threads and posts removed by mods. We must all adhere to BP rules and polices in addition to grade school level common sense. If you think there is even a small chance your comment will be removed, then please don't post it. For example, posted content that promote or discuss deception and / or theft will not be tolerated. Please remember posting on this web site is a privilege (even for the mods) and not a right.

I just activated a new feature that we are calling "Brickpicker Promotions" for the forum that will allow members to post Want Ads, Trades and External Sales. It is Free!! When you post an ad, a thread will be created in the current (renamed) Trade forum. Images and descriptions are required for all posts and posts will need to be approved. You can advertise items that you are looking to buy, items you are looking to trade or even items you are trying to sell from external sites like eBay and Amazon. Hopefully you are posting because its a good deal or have a special you would like to offer Brickpicker members. It is a very simple system but can be effective if used …

  22. Started by Jeff Mack,

We are going to try a new feature of allowing members to create Private Groups. These will be areas of the forum that do not show up at all unless you are part of that group. These areas will be for those of you that would like to discuss or comment on topics in a more intimate atmosphere without feedback from the general public. We realize everyone has different techniques and views of the LEGO investing world, some that may not agree with the masses and then that creates issues and tons of deleted posts. The private forums will be for those types of topics. Overall they will not be moderated. Ed and I will be the only ones outside of the invited members that can view…

  23. I would just like to make a quick post regarding the asking of us to change your username. We honestly get way too many of these. When you are registering for an online community, you have to realize that at some point your username will be public. There is actually bold red text on the registration form that says your username will be your public profile and no name changes will be made. We are also getting closer to the launch of Brick Classifieds and this is where it really becomes important. I have been building in a lot of security measures to help prevent fake accounts, multiple accounts, etc. We want people who are using the classifieds to feel that they know …

I saw on the main page there is about 90$ million worth in peoples brickfolios. With 5,000 members, that is about $18,000 per member....Seems a little high..Or maybe I need to step it up!

  25. I have a 10252-1: VOLKSWAGEN BEETLE in my brick folio. But all the details are missing. Is this a bug or am I missing something??
