Hi I have a 1974 catalogue that I found. Are these considered collectable and worth anything? Thanks zeee

  2. My funds for lego investing have dried up rather quickly this holiday season so ive been brain storming ways to increase my capital for legos. I was thinking that a profitable business approach could be as simple as buying a mint sealed set that has retired, sending it in to be professionally graded and then flip it on ebay. what do you guys think

Ed and I know that most of you look on eBay for good LEGO deals, but one thing we don't read all that much about is what all of you are doing as far as selling on eBay. We would like to know more about how much some of you sell. Do you have an eBay store? Do you sell anything on eBay? Do you plan to start soon?

  4. I was taking apart, bagging and storing some Lego sets recently and noticed that most Lego sets only take up HALF the actual space in the original box. Now, I know it's all about retail visibility and placement on the shelves...BUT... Don't you think Lego could: - reduce packaging size of boxes (help reduce paper waste)! Imagine how many millions of sets of Lego make each year. And the paper usage reduced if all boxes were HALVED in size. In doing so, it makes it easier for collectors to store their boxes as well. We can take more boxes on shelves. The boxes, having less air inside will also be less prone to being dished or flattened. Just saying...

Often when you buy from LEGO Shop at Home you receive a freebie set or poster etc... Do people tend to keep these or put them straight on to Ebay to offset the cost of the set you are buying. I have done both: The Fire Brigade I bought (at RRP!!) came with a Mini Sopwith Camel and a few Legends of Chima posters. I flogged these off for a few pounds which has lowered the cost by approx 4%. Last Christmas I bought the Grand Emporium for

Hey guys, First let me thank everyone for all the amazing deals, tips and information. This hobby is very addicting and I've learned a lot in a very short amount of time. I've been accumulating sets rapidly since the Fall of 2013. I have shelving dedicated to my collection in the basement but it's starting to spill over. My wife recently decided she wants to organize and finish the basement. I'm on board with this but it presents a huge problem. I need to consolidate my collection and my timeline to beginning selling is now accelerated. I was originally planning to hold out until Christmas of 2015 before selling anything. Most of the veterans recommend sel…

While many people here enjoy lego there will always be HUNDREDS of new lego sets on the market. Our whole business money depends on people wanting a specific set and paying a large premium for it. SO while boys building things will proba…

Right now I have a few garage shelves for storing LEGO. The problem is they are only 16 inches deep so a lot of the bigger sets either hang off a lot, or don't fit between the shelves at all if they are too tall. I've been trying to find some deeper shelves but most of them are quite expensive as they are made from metal and meant to hold thousands of pounds of tools and garage equipment on them. Before I just build my own, has anyone managed to find some cheaper shelves that work well for the majority of sets out there?

As a fairly new collector/investor...sometimes I have doubts if I should sell my last set or keep it when the set is already EOL. Potentially you could sell for higher margin down the road if you keep it - also the set will never be as cheap (most likely) as when you purchased it on sale before EOL if you want it for personal collection. So the usual scenario is buy +4 multiple of a set on sale(s)...sell them as you go, as stock dwindles you might raise prices. Just curious how many people here just keep that LAST set and delete the listing? Of course set value, personal favourites, budget and space are variables.

Apparently a few people on BrickLink have been receiving letters like the one attached. The pictured letter was posted over there. Basically it says that TLG only sells products to end users (outside the independent toy dealers). If they suspect that you are reselling them, they reserve the right to cancel your order. I would imagine you have to be buying a lot from them to raise any flags, but still interesting.

  12. Just as the title says, I'm wondering if anyone has had good luck ironing starched cloth pieces of Lego like sails and capes. If you had good luck, how did you go about it?

Anyone collect these? What is the best way to find them for cheap? I checked @ Shop and $15 for a pair is a bit pricey, right?

I'm pretty new to this investing thing, but I'm curious to know what other people's experiences are. I currently have about 5k invested at this point (not including sets I've already sold) but have made 1k off the sets I've sold, so only consider myself to be 4k in. Is there are a point where you broke even, and if so how long did it take?

Hey guys, Love Lego, but I'm starting to wonder if people in the UAE love it. I am currently trying to sell 4 sets: -Ewok Village - Mines of Moria - Unexpected Gathering - Attack of Shelob But for the life of me, I can't move them selling online. I am even selling them, on avg. $100 less than retailers here, yes Legos are very expensive here. But nothing, nada. I'm frustrated because I'm not sure what else can be done. I can see online sales are very healthy on Ebay, unfortunately I don't have the luxury to sell to my audience on Ebay. Any advice would be great, because at this point, even if I move these products the profits won't be that am…

Hi guys, So I'm trying to get into investing but since I'm not super rich and want to ease my way in, I'd rather start off buying sets that aren't at the top of the price range. Expensive sets will gain value because they're harder to find, they usually look amazing and have tons of detail and have more appeal to adults who will pay more for them. On the other hand, smaller sets are way more common and usually don't look nearly as good. What should I look for in a smaller set (maybe <$50) that would make me believe they are a good investment? Thanks, nigh

  17. I am wondering how long everyone has been investing in Lego. I purchased my first Lego set for investment in March of last year and started selling March of this year. I am particularly interested to see how many people have been doing this for more than 2-3 years. It seems Brickpicker has given many of us (including myself) the idea of investing in Lego sets but I'm curious to see who may have been doing it even before Brickpicker. This is not intended to be another Lego bubble discussion, I'm actually curious to hear from some of the investors who have been doing this for a number of years and get their perspective on changes they have seen over the years.

  18. I was at my local TRU trying to price match some Lego sets that I picked up earlier from KMart at 50%....I got a little carried away and had two cart fulls of various sets. The poor cashier was obviously overwhelmed so she called her manager over. The manager initially tells me that she is unable to price match my items. So obviously I politely explain that they have a price match guarantee and I have my receipts from KMart who is a local competitor. She gives me a few other excuses before finally throwing her hands up in the air in frustration, gasping, and exclaiming that my recent string of price matching (over the past month) is getting out of hand and I have to…

I think I just entered into a new era of Legodom. Loved Lego as a kid, emerged from the dark ages as an adult for the Star Wars initial release, then returned to a second dark age with work-and-life-stuff. Arrival of The Next Generation gave me reason to step back into it, along with a mandate that I get some sort of hobby that doesn't involve a kitchen remodel when my partner is out of town for a long weekend. Thus Era 3 began, and for the last few years I've been overdoing it, following your antics, sales and deal hunting. I got into the sales game. All progressing. Then, I bought a few yard sale lots. Then a few more. Then a few more. Then …

  22. So I have a list of sets that I want to collect over time. I do not want to pay more than the market value according to this site though. Why is it that people are posting NIB sets on ebay for WAY more than the market value? Do they expect to sell them for that, because obviously they don't sell. The best thing to do would be to let people bid and see how high it goes. I don't think anyone is going to pay 1500 bucks for something whose market value new is only 350. I'm sure this has been discussed before, but it just seems so illogical to try to get hundreds more than something is worth. I know it's been going on for years but ...yeah...I don't get it.

  23. What will you do when you run out of space for new LEGO sets? Taking some apart is not an option for me. Luckily my mom said that when she gets her next paycheck she will buy me some bookshelves.

  24. Started by Legodog,

I am curious how everyone keeps track of everything for taxes. You have to keep track of what you paid for a set then later you sell it for a profit and you have keep track of the eBay fees, PayPal fees, shipping fees. What if you bought a set in one year and sold it in another? I haven't sold much yet but I have purchased a lot. I can already see how it is going to be a lot of work keeping track of everything. I meet with my tax guy soon so I will have to go over all of this with him but I wanted to know what everyone else is doing?

If not what is your pick for '2013 Set of the Year' for investing purposes. There is competition from other sets released this year: Tower of Orthanc, Ewok Villiage, Delorean, etc...but 5yrs from now, which set will you predict to be Top Dog in terms of ROI (cash or %)?
