In addition to THE PLASTIC BRICK, we have added CHOWREN TOYS to our buying options. CHOWREN TOYS have been around since 2001 and I have personally bought many LEGO sets from Jack and Jason Chow. They run a quality LEGO store and as of June 2009 Chowren Toys LLC is now officially a LEGO independent on-line retailer. If they have a set, you will see their banner next to the other buying options in our LEGO SET GUIDE. Just click on their banner and you can check out what kind of deals they have. Thanks....

Since this will be my first "After Christmas Clearance" to experience, what can I expect? Are we thinking that Target will mark down sets on the 26th? (which is their normal Thursday markdown day). Does Walmart Act that fast, or will they individually (store to store) mark down over the next week? I have to drive almost 1 1/2 hours to get to a few Targets, trying to plan this out. Do they ever have great deals online after Christmas, or is this mostly in store? What is has been your experience? Thanks!

So the year is pretty much done in terms of sets to be released that haven´t been leaked - Hoth Exclusive is the main exception. What sets that came out in 2105 have grabbed your attention in a good or bad way and why? Here, in no particular order, are my top 5 good and bad ones: Good. 42043 Mercedes. Pneumatics, record parts content and outstanding use of Lego to create an accurate and complex workingmodel. What many AFOLs have been waiting for. 60095 Boat. I love the shipwreck and the storytelling element to this set. It really stands out from run-of-the-mill City remakes. 750093. Final duel. Good to see a new OT set that isn´t a spaceship. Again, the storyteling elemen…

We will be starting a BL Store once we settle into a house again. I will be getting used Bulk Lego (have already started) and was wondering is it worth cleaning each piece or just stick to the ones that are very dirty. I have seen youtube Videos, where lego says they wash them in the washing Machine in pillow cases. Or other using Borax to clean light colored Lego. My plan was to sort by color, then wash them and do final sorting. Is this overkill or good thing to do or have to do. Thanks Mike

Hey everyone, So I am in the process of sorting massive amounts of legos and a lot of the rubber tires I am coming across feel very oily and slimy. I've felt this before in other rubber portions of toys and I know it is common (though I don't fully understand the chemical reaction that occurs). Anyways, wondering if any one has come across this and if these tires are salvageable? Is there anything I can wash / soak them in to rid this? Or are they pretty much done for? Thanks for any help!

I have a guy trying to sell me a butt ton of cmf minifig cases(all boxes opened/sealed cmf bags) and a few of the CMF displays(120 figs in each). My main question, whats a good percentage and what should I use to get a baseline(ebay or bricklink)? Nothing super old or rare Ninjago movie, Series 16, Fantastic beasts, Disney series 1. Ideally these would not been searched through but you never know and I dont want to sit and squish a dozen or so cases. Thoughts?

Today I have snapped and with anger feel the need to vent with everyone on here. I buy and sell bulk boxes of lego to fuel my addiction, well I buy in bulk break and sell on bricklink. I am amazed that lego have not won a copyright case over megablocks but at least it is easy to tell the cheap quality and colour of megablocks a mile away. My anger comes with Cobi and Star, these are without doubt a clear rip off of lego even down to the 4 letter word on the studs. Now Cobi can usually be identified by the colours except for the black which is my real beef, and now finding plates which again can catch you ouch with star on them. Now i am fully aware that great grandma who…

I have a 3 year old that is interested in Lego/duplo. Should I start buying Lego now given that he will be building in 5 years? I only buy when there is 50% Msrp. This is for personal use and I do not expect to make money. 1. Am I getting too far? How often do you see 50% off Lego? 2. For the sets that got remade often (police station, fire station), are the newer always better than the older versions? 3. Any theme that I should avoid? For example, is today 's technic line technology different from 5 years ago?

I have always enjoyed Lego, though I have just started collecting various sets (mostly Star Wars) within the last year. I have kept myself mostly to the original trilogy sets and I have stuck with the vehicles (just because there are so many). I also have just joined this site within the last few weeks as I am getting into investing. Mostly going to be small scale for right now. I have seen posts in the forums about people talking about Lego wanting to do away with the secondary market and the "Golden Age" of Lego investing and selling being over. This is bad news for investors but as long as Lego retires sets, and people want those retired sets, there will alwa…

This morning, I watched the first episode of a new show on the SyFy channel called Collection Intervention. You can view it for free on iTunes (http://itunes.apple.com/us/tv-season/collection-intervention-season/id548764448) There are a few good reasons to watch this show since you are interested in collecting LEGO. 1. Obviously you will see the extreme side of collecting. It's always interesting to see how far people go. 2. You will see two sides of collections that are worth a lot and not as much as one though there collection would be. This is one good reason for BrickPicker.com. At least you can learn more about your LEGO collection and find the value of i…

Greetings, I've been collecting LEGO for the past 8-10 years or so and just out of habit from other collectibles I would buy 2, one to open and one to put away MISB. However as my LEGO collection has grown and the number of sets that has come out has increased in the past 3-4 years I've had to limit many to only one instead of two. I've always been aware that LEGO increases in value after retirement, which is part of the collecting appeal IMO, but after entering my collection into the data base here I was happily surprised at just how much some of the sets have gone up. Now for the dilemma......... As a fan of LEGO and love of the brick I want nothing more t…

Hi all, first of all I am really a completionist. This means that I like to have either the whole theme or no sets from a theme. But as anyone knows the exception proves the rule, therefore I have Temple of Arjitsu as unique set from Ninjago or could also live with the fact to have ships from the Pirates of the Carribean only. But in both cases I am not a big fan of the theme/movie itself. Now I am thinking about selling Lord of the Rings/Hobbit or Harry Potter sets - I have all of them in sealed condition. My problem here is that I like the movies from both themes, although for me the Lord of the Rings was more epic than Harry Potter. Hobbit in opposite is…

I have been looking at the prices for items bought at the SDCC and am curious if others have partaken in events such as these? Are there generally exclusives as some of the local events such as... http://vacomicon.com/ Are there events that are better than others for Lego sets? I pretty much sell anything collectable. (And some crap that i just got cheap.) Are there large events like SDCC on the East Coast? Are there any shows that you would recommend on for LEGO/Toy collectors? (Do any compete with SDCC?) Thanks for the input-

Hi All From an investment perspective, how would you rank / rate the following deal packages, assuming that the total cost for each package is the same? (package A) two Haunted House (#10228) (slight dent on both boxes) (package two Maersk trains (#10219) and one Golden Dragon (#70503) (all MSIB) (package C) two Summer Riding Camp (#3185) and two Golden Dragon (#70503) (all MSIB) (package D) ten Golden Dragon (#70503) (all MSIB) Thank you.

The more I see what is happening, the more it reminds me of the baseball card phenomenon of the mid to late 80's. For those that weren't around for the baseball card crash, here's a quick synopsis. Cards started gaining a tremendous resurgence around 1984. People started jumping in around this time that had no interest in it before. The markets got so large, and card companies so greedy, the amount of production skyrocketed in the late 80's and early 90's, to the point there was too much to choose from, and nothing was hard to find. Oversaturation killed the market. I see the same thing happening right now. There has always been interes…

Here's a question for discussion. If most people here are investing in typically the same sets such as: Fire Brigade, Pet Shop, Vampyre's Castle, Helm's Deep etc... Won't this make us all competitors when it comes time to sell? I know we all have differen't thresholds for profit and selling but at one time or another there will be times when our selling will overlap with eachother. Let the friendly competition begin.

Got to catch them all! What Lego themes do you go all in for? You've just got to buy every single item, from large expensive set to small obscure polybag. Something small like LotR or Monster Fighters, or are you crazy enough to go all out for every Star Wars set? Or what Lego items or subthemes to you have to have every one of? Like every UCS set, or something small like every CMF in a costume (Lizard guy, Hotdog, Unicorn etc) For me it was Lord of the Rings sets (not Hobbit). I have every LotR set across both waves, from the mighty Orthanc to the rare 5000202 Elrond Polybag. Although recently I've started selling off some of my sets to make display room …

Hi guys, How do you balance the desire to build a set vs the desire to keep it MISB for investment and return sale price? I like building - especially the big sets, but due to the cost sometimes struggle to justify spending the money on a 'treat', especially as money is not as available as I'd like (need a better job). When you look at some of the sale prices of discontinued sets and see it's worth 400 new, but only 150 used (a generic example) it makes my head rule my heart a bit. I suppose with some sets you could buy a used one to build, without box etc to save money, but what do you do when it's one of the modular's or lego exclusive for example that are never…

hello fellow brickpickers, a moment of your time please. I think I know the answer to this, but would appreciate some opinions from some varied points of view. I have an opportunity to purchase a jabbas's sail barge, jabba's palace, and rancor pit for $240. all three are mint in box, with no tax or shipping charges. currently the palace and rancor pit are available on amazon for $95 and $48, respectively. both with no tax or shipping. $240-$143=$97 for the sail barge. unless I am missing something, there have not been any discounts on the barge (yet), so if I bought one local including tax it would cost me $126.59. that would be a savings of 23% on a sail barge if b…

I just bought 2 items. One 9466 Monster Hunters: Crazy Scientist for 35.00 and one 9472 for 60.00. My question is should I take back the "Attack on Wheathertop" and grab 2 more Crazy Scientist? I'll be selling everything before Chirstmas of this year (October - November).
