General Collecting and Investing Forum

Overall forum on thoughts, stories and ideas for collecting and investing your Legos.

  1. As I was in my basement the other day doing a little organizing and comparing my collecting area to my wifes crafting area I could tell that at the current pace of buying my days that I would eventually run out of room. I would say I have at least a couple more buying seasons to go before I run out of room. How close is everyone else to busting at the seams? Do you have plans to sell once your inventory expands beyond your storage area or hobby room you are allowed? I don't like the idea of selling once I run out of room, especially if I believe the sets are still on the upward trend but you can only stash so much Lego in the crawlspace...

I recently joined this wonderful little site and finally have a question I thought it would be worth asking the forum: How important is the condition of the box when it comes to the long-term value of an unopened Lego set? I ask because I recently ordered the Lego Haunted House (10228-1) from Amazon, and when it arrived, the box was more beat up than I was expecting. (Mild to medium creasing/bending in several spots, plus a severe crease on one of the side flaps, which also happens to be taped shut. By the way, is that last bit normal? Can't remember any Lego boxes I've purchased at the store being taped, but maybe that's typical for these huge sets.) Anyway, should I …

I'm leaning towards selling this stuff dirty, it's gonna be a lot of time cleaning and reassembly. Getting tired with the 2 boxes of monster fighters lol

  4. I gotta say Construct a Zerg. Just awful design, no detail, cartoony, and doesn't even look like Legos. Insanely overpriced as well. Close second would be the whole Atlantis theme. Lets hear your picks

Hello everyone, My Lego collection will not stop growing and I have finally reached my limit of keeping the boxes. As of now I flatten them and put them in the closet. My question is....what now? Will there ever come a time when the boxes are worth anything? Do I hold on to them, sell them, burn them, or does anyone want them for some reason? I have just shy of a thousand sets so I know its hundreds of boxes. Im in Alabama if anyone thinks they would like them.

I was at Target yesterday and noticed that the Rancor Pit sets they had in store had the punch tab type boxes. I know the ones I grabbed from Lego store had the sticker seals. Maybe Lego is switching back to punch tab boxes even for larger sets to avoid theft? I hope that's the case! Anyone else seeing this for other sets?

Just curious...assuming you're gone for 7days, how do med-large scale sellers handle their Lego store on (ebay, amazon, bricklink etc.) while on vacation? Do you post something regarding your absence, change your status, do nothing, advise buyers with a standard/auto reply you're be processing orders asap when you get back...or have another person do it for you? *any stories of missed sales or crazy buyers messing up your vacation time? Or do some people find getting into Lego investing leaves you no time/funds left over for vacations JK.

  8. Does anyone know how I can remove old shipping address from my LEGO Shop at Home account? Thanks!

  9. Perhaps because I am a girl, I am over thinking this topic, however, with the success of the Lego Friends series I can't help but wonder about the possibilities for Lego lines for girls. Here's a few I've come up with and they are all Disney related: - Cinderella's Castle - Cinderella's Pumpkin Carriage - Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs little house and the 7 dwarf minifigs - Snow White's Even Queen, witch with the apple, and mirror on the wall set - Little Mermaid Eric's Ship - Little Mermaid Ursula's Lair - Little Mermaid Ariel's secret hideout - Beauty and the Beast Castle - Beauty and the Beast glowing rose scene - Beauty and the Beast Dinner scene with candlestick g…

  10. Hi all, first of all I am really a completionist. This means that I like to have either the whole theme or no sets from a theme. But as anyone knows the exception proves the rule, therefore I have Temple of Arjitsu as unique set from Ninjago or could also live with the fact to have ships from the Pirates of the Carribean only. But in both cases I am not a big fan of the theme/movie itself. Now I am thinking about selling Lord of the Rings/Hobbit or Harry Potter sets - I have all of them in sealed condition. My problem here is that I like the movies from both themes, although for me the Lord of the Rings was more epic than Harry Potter. Hobbit in opposite is…

Dear Lego, I actively love building sets. I love the detail of the minifigures. I love the creative licences. But the world knows you have been charging ridiculous premiums for your product outside the US. The international market has tolerated it for so long. As discussed previously Amazon US has been coerced (whether it be temporarily or permanently) directly from Lego into ceasing international shipping. In recent years Amazon has been a hub for many international buyers to score Lego at cheaper costs than their local retail prices. Yet now the screws are being tightened. Lego has been banning users, placing limitations and now this. I thought it was ludicrous ea…

Maybe you got disappointed your SSD, Rover or HH order got cancelled? Mine is actually a small/cheap set...Chima Stinger Duel that was on sale Purchase meant as surprise for my son, received email notice today that it was cancelled due to no stock...after I made the order early this week, was told they have 10 left and got order number for 2 sets I purchased. Weird. Guess they don't really 'hold' the product for you or inventory/warehouse had mix up? Maybe I should of got express shipping haha. Good thing I didn't tell my son or he'll be disappointed for sure. Lego rep gave me $10 in vip pts as apology...nice token gesture. Any Canadians that has ONE ext…

Just had a thought. Reading through the various threads over the past few months I keep seeing people recommending; "buy this set, buy that set" and with my memory most of them go out of my head as soon as someone mentions the next hot tip. So, here is my Wish List of sets to buy before they go EOL: 7938-1: Passenger Train 8110-1: Unimog U400 3315-1: Olivia

Can someone who has firsthand knowledge fill me in on what exactly is sold at Lego Outlet stores? Is it slow selling junk, damaged stuff? Any ideas?

  15. Looking for a program or app that is good for inventorying toy collections. I used to use a program called Action Figure Vault that worked fine but it is no longer supported. I was going to use it again but I just built a new pc and all my pictures have to be re-linked in the program. At this point, it would be probably be best to use a newer program/app. I have a great app for comics but I am having issues finding something similar for toys. Program would need the ability to add my own pictures and then standard database info like price paid, toy line, etc. This would be for mostly my 80s toy collections (Transformers, Mask, Centurions, etc). Any suggestions?

Hi Everyone, First time poster and a very new investor here. For a while now, I've been considering some sort of side business, or investment and not long ago, I made the decision to invest into Lego. I made this decision for a few reasons, but the main one was that collecting is my passion and I wanted this side business to have something to do with my lifestyle so that I could never get bored of it, and would always be excited invest my time and money into it. I'm a huge fan of collecting and I love all things geeky and Sci-Fi, so Lego was the perfect idea for me. Anyway, I made this thread for two reasons, firstly to introduce myself, which I've now done, …

  17. I recently turned a major page in my LEGO journey -- I'm finally building sets! However, I'm now buying two of each set to keep one in the box and build the other. Like a wise BP'er once said, "I have a price". I too have a price and a lot of times it gets me into trouble because I'll buy and sell a set multiple times only for it to retire and not have a copy on hand then have to go to market and buy one from you scumbags for God knows how much ; ) Over the years I've seen used sets (with the box & instructions) sell for only 20% less than my sealed sets. It irked me a bit. I realized I would be more than willing to take 20% less in order to get the enjoyment of …

Thought this article was on point to us since it involves reselling. LEGO is not the only one banning resellers. I live in the city and there is a Lululemon store about 3 blocks from me. The retail prices are through the roof. The least expensive pair of basic men's workout shorts start at $59 and go up from there. I've seen 20-somethings with $500 worth of yoga clothing in the checkout line. I thought this paragraph was noteworthy The retailer changed its stance after a couple of weeks.

  19. So this applies to members and guests from Europe, Australia or basically anywhere outside of the US. As a guest visiting this site, it is possible you will view the price guide on brickpicker, think "that's not right" and then never visit the site again. I know because that is what I did, eventually the site won me round by providing a hub of all the latest lego news and the forum can fill a few void hours. (From what I can gather) The reason the price guide is so out is because there is not enough accurate data and I imagine it also needs tweaking which is going to be a whole lot of man hours. I have often thought how I could help out with the U.K data but with so many…

As I was checking my just updated Brickfolio, I noticed I surpased the 2,000,000 mark of Lego Bricks. Maybe it's time to sell some of these bricks? Started this hobby about 7 years ago. Or maybe i can build a real house with these(my 5 y.o. son was asking me. Anyhow, I'm sure there are other Brickpickera with maybe 10,000,000+ bricks out there? It's been real fun so far so I think I'll justvkeep going. It took me 3737 sets to get here so my next goal maybe to own 5000 seales Lego sets. Anybody else out there who is a Brickmillionair?

  21. I'm flying to Warsaw this Sunday for couple of days so if there is any interest among BrickPickers I can get couple of boxes to my check in luggage or I can buy bulk and dispatch with courier to London, which will be much easier for later distribution within mainland or western EU. I don't know how much of these are available right now in Store but I can estimate now in about 10-15 boxes. I'm coming back to London by 2nd of June. RPP for this set in warsaw lego store is eq of 25GBP If you are interested drop the line here or PM me. If You are from US, Australia or any other country and you are eager to pay shipping costs from UK - be my guest. https://brickset.c…

I will sell a lot of lego items starting tomorrow evening CET. So my wife saw some pictures for my item descriptions and told me: ,,hey that looks like modern art, you should print some of them and we can hang it on our walls" I laughed and then i looked again on my pics. I thought that it really would be funny to have some of them hanging on our walls. (of course without the weight specification on the pictures... removing them with photoshop would be easy) The pictures were made with a Canon eos 20d. Background is a white table. I used photoshop to pimp the pictures. (more contrast and brightness) What do you guys think? Lego pictures as moder…

  23. The calendar you can get from Monday in EU Lego Stores for showing a receipt with a sticker you received for buying something in the last weeks reveals some new sutff I could not find in any database yet: 1.) Marvel Super Heroes: Milano (30449) - seems to be a polybag 2.) Ninjago: Sensei Wu Keychain (5004915) 3.) Friends: Storage Box (40266) - seems to be a mini-build 4.) Lego Birthday Card (5004931) Some (minor) bad news for minifigure investors: The Iconic Easter Minifigure (5004688) will be resurrected once again as a coupon-bound GWP in March.

  24. I was thinking about starting my own website and was wondering if anybody on here has one and if they could give me some advice. Is it worth it? How many customers do you average per week? How much inventory do you need to have in order to start one? Thanks for your time! -Derek

From Brickset: Looking forward to the return of City Space Theme. Clear out your Echo Bases if you're still holding them. I wouldn't be surprised to see the AT-AT make a return later in 2019. Too much Hoth right now available to not have an enemy walker to fight... but they did **** the bed with AoH so you can never be too sure. Looks like the smaller creator amusement park theme is going to keep rolling. Surprised they didn't take advantage of the Ferris Wheel retiring and make a small Ferris Wheel, versus a small Carousel to compete with the larger version.
