LEGO Set Retirement / End of Life (EOL)

A forum to discuss and predict when a LEGO set's retail life will end.

  1. Started by king156,

So guys what are your thoughts on sets that we should be loading up on this 2016. With modular are we likely to see the ps go....meaning more loading up on pc and pr. What are your thoughts on the modulars? And which should be first priority for early 2016 (:

Hi, In the UK Christmas Lego catalogue there are 6 sets with 'Limited Quantity' marked against them. Is there any link between this tag and EOL due, or is it also put on a few if they expect to sell out. My initial thoughts were it's an EOL sign as Tower Bridge, DeLorean, VW Camper, Pet Shop were marked like that and they've already been well discussed on the forums as EOL due. but, what threw me was Palace Cinema and Fairground Mixer marked Limited as well. As these are the only 6 lines in an 82 page mag it raised some thoughts. I would be very suprised if PC and Mixer went EOL - I'm assuming it's due to demand expectations, but there are loads …

  4. Folks, I'm confused, and it may just be my old age. I'm guessing someone already did a topic on this, but regardless here goes: In 2010 Lego had a final discount run on the Technic Race Truck 8041. I think they discounted them down to $29.99 or something very low and I was able to pick up a large lot of them, maybe 70 kits or so. I've been selling them on Ebay for well over $100 and someone just points out to me today that Lego re-released the exact same kit as Technic 42041. Argh! So for all I know this re-release has been out for a while and I just didn't notice. But I had been steadily flipping my 8041's for more than triple what I paid and then sales jus…

Most Lego set databases (BrickPicker, BrickOwl, BrickLink, lego.wikia.com, etc.) provide the year a set went into production. Some occasionally include the month as well (like lego.wikia.com). Is there any reference for the retirement dates of Lego sets? Even a crude approximation will do. I'm certainly aware of the two years "rule", but this is often way off: the Death Star 10188 has been with us for 7 years now. Preferably, a format that could be easily digested by software would be ideal. Automated fetching and HTML parsing is fine, but not digging through forum posts. Does anyone know if such information exists anywhere? Thanks!

Has anyone noticed that the Tower Bridge and Haunted House are not in the LEGO January 2014 & Spring 2014 catalogs! Could this be a sign of EOL?

  7. **Updated with more behavioral examples** 8/1/2014 Many folks ask questions about "what does this product status mean?" Many folks use these terms interchangeably, and that's not helpful to the community discussion. These terms all seem to have distinct and meaningful differences. I think we can learn from them, and their subtle differences. I thought i'd put a post together to gather those statuses (Statii?) and some interpretations of their meaning. Perhaps we could also include examples of how products behaved while in those statuses. Obviously these statuses will change with time, so feel free to suggest better examples as things change. Lego Shop @ …

  8. I've been watching the stock levels in a few places for a few of the more key/likely/older items people are hoping to retire soon. SInce I'm in the UK, I'll go through that, but perhaps you might extrapolate across the pond! Whilst these are still in stock on the LS@**** in the UK, it's interesting to see what stock levels of the other retailers are doing... 1. VW Camper Van (John Lewis Exclusive) - This is argubly the most interesting that I've been looking at. It's been out of stock twice in the past couple of weeks. I cheekily even phoned up to see what was going on with it. (but they'd got it back in stock before I can ask if it was coming …

As this set is now officially retired I thought I'd start a new thread as the name of the other one is now out of date But moderators if you want to merge, feel free So, this is the set that apparently most people have on their portfolios and the nay sayers were propheting doom and gloom about it's EOL performance. So below is the Ebay UK price performance since November. Left Column are BNIB listings, the right one are used listings. I think this covers at least 90% of all UK listings for the time period. Nov-13 102 82 Nov-13 90 Nov-13 97 Dec-13 132 107 Dec-13 120 94 Dec-13 99 …

  11. Well, now that TLG has given us the "retiring soon" label on several sets, which sets are you guys focusing on? That is, which sets do you think have the most upside. I think most see HD, Super Heroes, and possibly Unimog as winners. But what about the less talked about sets? Anyone picking up: City Garage? Winter Village Cottage? Technic sets: Helicopter, Logging Truck, Pick Up Truck? Train Station? Lone Ranger Train? Monster Fighters Vampyre Hearse, and other MF sets Anything else? Personally, since learning of the retiring soon sets, I loaded up on the Winter Village Cottage. I grabbed like 8 Pick Up trucks and 10 VH during the TRU sale…

  12. Started by cissi,

retiring soon? It's 'call to check availability now' on LEGO Shop at Home. I really love this set and already have some stacked (not a lot by BP standard). Seeing it going away just makes me want to get more before it's complete gone. I hope it's gone (from the investment point of view) though hard to see it leaving. Complicated feeling...

  13. I am referring to the sets on LEGO Shop at Home that we all know are more or less retired. For instance, all the Super Heroes stuff in the blue boxes, the rest of the LotR stuff from the first wave, SpongeBob, etc. These things all just show "Sold Out" for their status. Since we all know Lego is on to us and our methods of making money off their products, I'm sure they are also aware that we are just waiting for those "Retired Product" tags to show up, so we can market our sets differently and jack up our prices. Lol. What do you bet they stay "Sold Out" for quite a while longer? After all, what is Lego's hurry to declare a set retired? When a consumer go…

Lego Retired Products.xlsx This is what I saw by typing "Retired Product" into LEGO's search field. I can only list all items using the Safari browser on my iMac. IE & FireFox don't appear to display more than the first page.

Forgive me if this was already posted but I swear it stated something else when I checked the LEGO Shop at Home site earlier today. It is now reporting "Retired Product". http://shop.lego.com/en-US/The-Battle-of-Helm-s-Deep-9474

Attached is the current list of retired sets at Lego UK. It's a good guide of what to look for in supermarkets and department stores if you don't want lots of boxes in your loft for too long.

  19. My son was running around the store today and posed for a quick picture. Notice the "retiring soon" sign. This set has been around for a while.

  20. Hello to all, Recent months to buy the 8110 Unimog ... comes out later this year!

  21. Started by Brickbuilder.g,

Where does everyone go to find retired dates? I see this site has when the item came out but would be cool to know retired month/yr of a particular set....right now I end up just googling it every time and finding a forum thread ...thanks

    officially retired.

  23. Started by CNH1974,

Ebay UK price has suddenly shot up to RRP for used sets, and 10-15% above RRP for new. It's dropped off Amazon UK. Also just noticed that 7938 Passenger train has also gone from Amazon. It was there yesterday at 20% off.

These sets didn't appear in search results last week with the same query. Anyone else notice the same? Note: it is interesting other MF and LR sets are not displayed even though they have retiring soon tags.
