LEGO Set Retirement / End of Life (EOL)

A forum to discuss and predict when a LEGO set's retail life will end.

  1. Started by CNH1974,

Whilst I was buying 10214 today in the Lego I though I would ask what they knew of EOL sets based on what I have read on the this site. 10197 Fire Bridge will go around June time, The Cinema will be released to VIP members mid Feb and everyone else in March 10211 The Emporium will be around at for another year. 10214 will go sometime this year to be replaced by the Sydney Opera House. But he told me that unofficially. I also asked about the LOTR current range going EOL mid this year as it had been rumored. He knew nothing about that and expected them to continue for the foreseeable future. In fact we will be getting a new lot of sets mid year, not sure if that…

I was in the Lego store in Westfield White city yesterday and asked one of the staff if they new when certain sets were being discontinued, he replied that they weren't given specific details but they had been told the Fire station is going next but they don't have a date.

I was just looking through the Lego News page and I came across something that something like "Lego Lord of the Rings Minifigures Released". I clicked on a bunch of stuff after that and came to this link on the Brick Fan: http://www.thebrickfan.com/lego-2013-castle-star-wars-lord-of-the-rings-images-leaked/ It has a list of some of the sets that are coming out in 2013. Just to make sure that this was a fairly legit post, I researched things in the past that this author had done. According to other posts by him (Allen "Tormentalous" Tran), the lists are pretty accurate as far as I can tell. If this is a correct list, then a NEW SW Republic Gunship is coming o…

  4. Hi there, Im quite new to all of this in terms of just left Dark Ages. Missed out a lot of nice things as I already found out, like Modular Buildings and yes - I love the Mill. Falcon. I like the price guide here as I can obtain some information there like # pieces and the "Set Year". What Im wondering so far -> where do I get information like when a set retired? So lets see the Mill. Falcon -> "Set Year" is 2007, but actually - when did it retire? Was it still sold in 2009? Is there any source stating that kind of information (in general, so not only refering to the falcon? Many thanks in advance!

I was at Target today, and their usually abundant LEGO aisle was very very sparse. The only Monster Fighters they had left was a whole bunch of the Werewolf sets (which no one seems to want,) and one Mummy which was on clearance. That clearance tag is about the biggest indication you can get that these are disappearing soon, at least from Target. So keep a close eye on this situation...

Hi fellow brickvestors, is there any other source of information besides the LEGO Shop at Home product listing and the store salesmen concerning retirements? I'm thinking of buying the fire brigade and the 7965 Millenium Falcon, since the first one is the oldest available modular set at LEGO Shop at Home and the second one approaches the two-year time span. Insider info someone?

  11. I noticed this for the first time this afternoon (December 29th.) I'm pretty sure this is brand new. In the area where it would normally say "Available Now, Out of Stock, Sold Out, Call to check Availability" etc., it now actually shows as being a Retired Product. It's weird though which sets have it and which ones don't. For instance, the Queen Anne's Revenge and Black Pearl are still showing Sold Out and have not been officially labelled as Retired. But on the other hand, Fountain of Youth has been declared retired. So has The London Escape, but I'm pretty sure we all formed that conclusion months ago on our own. So what is the difference between "Sold Out" a…

PotC 4195 Queen Anne's Revenge status on LEGO.com has changed to "Call to check product availability." The Black Pearl seemingly has sold out. Is this the beginning of the end for the Queen Anne's Revenge?

  13. In a different discussion, some of us are sharing our predictions on the future of the Monster Fighters theme. I am of the thought that Monster Fighters is on its way out. But there is one little thing that stands in my way from being sold on that idea...the new "Retiring Soon" tag that LEGO started slapping on endangered sets on the LEGO Store website. For instance, we can now all believe with some certainty that the window to get Diagon Alley is closing. It was recently labelled as "Retiring Soon." So here is my question...are they going to put that tag on all sets when the time comes? Or just whenever they feel like it? Because as of right now, there is no i…

  14. Started by azalon,

Just checked the 10219 on Ebay, saw the very nice prices of recent sales so then went to LS@**** to check availability. It now says Retired Product. That pretty much confirms it in a nutshell, eh? As far as I would think, it is done--never to be brought back with leftover stock or another shipment(Green Grocer, anyone?). Sure, it was obvious, but at least Lego confirms it. Also, there is a definite difference between Sold Out and Product Retired(soon to be labeled as "PR" for short?). I'm sure there's other sets listed as PR (hey, it catches on fast!) on the LS@**** site, and I'm not sure if this was mentioned in another thread, but I think the combination of Retiring…

  15. Anyone have any info on the status of 9465 - The Zombies? It is showing sold out on LEGO Shop at Home and has been out of stock at Target (both online and in stores) for several weeks I think. I have a few I'm holding onto and am wondering if it could be close to EOL even though it has only been available a few months. I'm hoping this will be an investment winner!

I noticed a Ninjago set, 9558, is labeled as "Retiring Soon" on the Legoshop site. This is new to me, has Lego been using this label before and I have just never noticed it?

On the heels of timinchicago's article about EOL(End Of LIne) or in layman's terms, the date a LEGO set is retired, I figured now would be a good time to ask the BrickPicker community what LEGO sets will be the next to be discontinued? My guess would be the 10217 DIAGON ALLEY. The set is being discounted and the Harry Potter theme is being discontinued. What's your guess?

  19. Just to add more evidence to what many have already suspected, it seems that the PotC sets are indeed going away. Set 4181 has changed to "Call to check product availability." I mentioned this in another thread as well, but Queen Anne's Revenge is now sold out as of today. With The Mill and the London Escape already gone from the site, it seems the writing is very much on the wall for the Pirates of the Caribbean theme. It didn't seem to be exceedingly popular when it was widely available, but it will be interesting to see how this series does in its afterlife.

I had the day off today and spent my morning stopping into my 2 closest Lego stores. I noticed that they have re-released last years Winter Post Office, but I was told by employees at both stores that not only the Winter Toy Shop wouldn't be re-released this year, but that the Winter Bakery also would not be returning. I knew that the Toy Shop was EOL, as they are going for $100+ on ebay, but until this morning I thought the Bakery was getting re-released this year, I guess not. Does anyone else have confirmation of this? P.S. if the Winter Bakery really is going EOL Walmart has them in stock still for $54 so grab them while you can :)

Hello everyone, I'm still somewhat new to the Lego collecting world, but I had a few questions that Google has been unable to answer for me. Is there a website (ie, on shop.lego.com) that says when a set actually is retired? I am aware that predicting when sets WILL retire is anyone's guess, but is there a place to see if something is currently retired? What I am really asking is if there is a website that I can go to each day to check on sets to see if they have officially been retired? Does the Lego Shop website return a 404 or something if it retires? Thanks and I apologize if I am asking n00b-ish questions. EDIT: It seems that if you go to http://shop.l…

Hi all, I am new to the site but have invested in lego since 2001. I have a Lego shop near to me (in the UK) and soon found that MISB sets could produce returns and be a 'fun' investment at the same time. I bought a number of the large Castle chess sets when they were on sale in the shop and recall (I don't have any now) the large outer box had a xx of xx on the outside. Therefore implying there was a limited number made, unless it meant something else like the number of sets sent to UK shops? As an investor it would be great to know the production numbers, can any of the members comment on if this can be obtained? I assume that lego get a license deal with th…

I was surprised to see that 4205 was on the "EOL" list on brickset the today, I normally would not pay it any attention but for some reason I decided to look it up on LEGO Shop at Home and sure enough searching for 4205 returns no result. What do you guys think of this? According to brickset it was released last December. I believe it's listed as a 2012 set. Seems a bit early to pull the plug on a pretty cool set and a Target exclusive.

  24. Started by ericholm,

Hi, I use brickset.com to view the dates a set was released and also in many cases became discountinued. for example if you search on set 10194 (Emerald night) down the right hand side of the page it details when this was available in USA, Canada & UK on lego.com Availability at LEGO.com United States 01 Apr 09 - 25 Nov 11 $99.99 United Kingdom 01 Apr 09 - 04 Dec 11

  25. This is just to give you a heads up regarding the Harry Potter sets. The only set available from the Lego online store (UK, ES, DE and IT) is the 10217 Diagon Alley, all the other ones are gone. The US store still has some more sets available. Is EOL nearing?
