Now that the LEGO Architecture Skylines series is in it's second year, with a total of six sets released so far, We are seeing some amazing fan-made models in the style of the official sets.I just wrote an article highlighting the very best of these custom models. (Before selecting my favorites, I created this Pinterest board where I collected all 24 custom Skyline models I've found so far.)Paris Skyline, by Cecilie Fritzvold Immediately recognizable despite its tiny scale, what's not to love about this Paris Skyline? I really like how closely it follows the style of the official sets.Budapest Skyline, by docbaliThis is another excellent model that follows the style…

It looks like the Empire State (21002) is retiring. No availability on US and CAN shops (says to call to check for availability) and on Brickset, it says that the set retired on July 23rd/24th, but not in the UK. Is it time to buy the set?

What are your thoughts about this set? Seems to be extremely limited and almost impossible to get outside China. Even in China it is getting more expensive by every day... I don't know exactly how many sets there are in circulation, but I've heard around 1000 although I don't remember the source. So, what do you think of the future of this set?

Like so many of us, I am always very excited to see leaked or official photos of new sets in my favorite themes, especially Architecture. Thankfully, we finally have official photos of the three new sets in the 2017 wave of the LEGO Architecture 'Skylines' theme. The three new sets in the 2017 wave of the "Skylines" theme. This doubles the number of sets in the Skylines series to six, so I think it's fair to expect that this series is here to stay. With 100's of major cities around the world to explore, I don't think they will run out very quickly!Initial Observations: All three sets have around 400 bricks, unlike the 2016 wave which ranged from 212 to 598 bricks.…

I am really excited that the Brick Loot team gave me an opportunity to design a model which was included in the November Brick Loot box. I jumped at the chance to expand on the narrative I started with my book 'The LEGO Architect' by creating a new model that explores a recent trend in Architecture.LEGO Architecture model in November 2016 Brick Loot subscription. The model I designed explores contemporary architecture trends, emphasizing projecting volumes, angular shapes, glass, and mixed materials. I call the model “@ Home”, because the front facade has a curving yellow shape that looks like an “@” sign.Detailed building instructions(A video of the build steps is availa…

Looks like it got flagged last night when they added their new stock. I am not sure about this set, paying retail + shipping doesn't seem like a great value, but I did notice amazon's price went up $3 last night. I grabbed one just in case. Edit: Amazon back down to 37.50.

Today, names for the 2016 sets leaked (http://www.thebrickfan.com/lego-2016-set-name-listings-on-amazon-de/?utm_source=feedburner&utm_medium=feed&utm_campaign=Feed%3A+LegoEverlasting-LegoReviewsNews+(The+Brick+Fan+-+LEGO+Reviews+%26+News)). This is in German, but translated, the new architecture sets are: Venice (21026) – EUR 29.99 Berlin (21027) – EUR 29.99 New York City (21028) – EUR 49.99 Burj Khalifa (21031) – EUR 39.99 Now - this alone wouldn't be worth a new thread, but there are two things odd in this list. Can you spot them? Also, something seems to change in terms of the line. Most of these aren't specific buildings, but cities. Interesting...

So, this one is retired soon but not at all hard to find and not jumping like the hancock center or Sears tower. However, pretty much every Arch set that has retired has been a winner. What do we think? Under the radar?

I know; not the most creative title in history but that really is what this very limited set only available in Billund is titled. Here is a Brickset review done on it. What is interesting is the actual structure in real life has not been built yet making this a sort of 'preview' model. To add, this is the first Architecture set to include a minifigure....but I'm sure you already figured that out.

Rockefeller Center NBC Promo I have never seen one of these anywhere else and I thought I did a pretty thorough internet search for it. It is a standard Rock Center set that was purchased by NBC. They added a promotional sticker to cover the base plate that has the NBC logo and "Rock Center with Brian WIlliams" on it. I obtained it for free from an employee that I know at an NBC affiliate station who is not at all into lego, so I don't doubt that it was released by NBC. I have just never seen another one mentioned anywhere. There is one ebay listing for it, which was mine that I sold last year just to see what it would bring. It didn't do much different than the …

Besides the "Imperial Hotel", LEGO is releasing this famous landmark for 2013. Bricker A little surprised this hasn't come up in other threads yet. I would & should have posted this before but have been busy as hell this month.

Just curious if anyone is planning on buying the Architecture: Whitehouse from Lego on the Double Points Presidents' Day Weekend? Bonus for what it's worth, you will be eligible for the Nexo Knights: Robin's Mini Fortrex (you would still have to buy something small to make it over 50 dollars) Or if you are interested in it, would you rather wait until the end of the run and hope to grab one at discount before the sell out for retirement?

Merry Christmas! I'm excited to share the 6 "nanoscale" architecture models which I submitted in the Advent calendar contest at Brickset. 6 "nanoscale" LEGO Architecture models based on designs in The LEGO Architect book.Creating what I call "Nanoscale" LEGO models which meet the constraints of the advent calendar contest is a really interesting challenge. Specifically, the parts need to fit easily in the small compartments of the official LEGO Advent calendars, and the model should use 20 parts or fewer. Nanoscale Prairie house on right, More detailed LEGO model from the book on left.I'm also excited to share instructions to build one of these models as new bonus m…

Posted on Brickset. "Barnes and Noble will be hosting an Architecture event for teens and adults at stores across the United States from January 16 to 31. I had the pleasure of interviewing Serafin Maranan of Architects Orange and LEGO Artist Christina Griffin Hull about their collaboration to bring the architecture firm's latest building to life as a LEGO model. It was really interesting to learn about how Serafin brought his experience as an architect, and Christina helped translate architectural language into LEGO elements. LEGO Model of "Urbana" in San Diego. Serafin explained that “Urbana is a 6 story mixed-use infill project in downtown San Diego. It contains 96 rental units and over 1,100 square feet of retail. It has garnered many design awards and one of Architects Orange’s seminal projects.” Photo of the r…

I just finished an interesting interview with LEGO Artist Paul Wellington, who is probably best known for his large "Brickville" and "Brick City" microscale scenes. I was more interested in his intricate small-scale LEGO models of real buildings like the National Congress of Brazil (as featured in my book The LEGO Architect), and his most recent microscale model of Unity Temple by architect Frank Lloyd Wright.NATIONAL CONGRESS OF BRAZILBrasilia, Brazil, 1964, Oscar Niemeyer.LEGO Model by Paul Wellington."The scale of the National Congress of Brazil [LEGO] model is solely based on the sides of the towers, which use 1×8 tiles. I wanted to maximize the number of windows (tr…

I am excited to share another in-depth look at an amazing LEGO Architecture creation, a minifigure-scale model of the Maggie's Centre in Newcastle, UK by Edward Cullinan Architects. The LEGO model is by Steve Mayes, an architectural photographer and talented LEGO Artist. Maggie's Centre is a nonprofit organization dedicated supporting people living with cancer, in beautifully designed buildings by influential architects like Frank Gehry and Zaha Hadid. Maggie's Centre (2013) in Newcastle, UK by Edward Cullinan Architects.Steve was generous enough to provide me with a lot of photos of his model, which I chose to show side-by-side with photos of the real building. I th…

Has anyone else encountered a significant decline in Lego Architecture stock levels at their area B&******? I've only got one B&****** in my local area, so my data set is admittedly very limited. Up until the fall of 2014, my local B&****** was a great source for Lego Architecture sets; good variety, multiples of each set, no coupon issues, etc. In the past 6 months I don't think the store has received any Architecture resupply. I was in the store last weekend and they were down to about maybe 5-6 sets. Over in the toy department, they keep receiving the latest sets from the other Lego series, so I'm not sure what to make of the situation.
