Discuss great LEGO deals or selling tactics on eBay

  1. Started by yang,

Just received an email from eBay saying: Don't miss out. xxx number of ppl watched this item in the last week and the stock is limited. The problem is: that's my own listing... Probably this is not new to the ebayers here, but it's the first time it happened to me. Just thought that's funny.

Hi, I need advice from veteran Ebay sellers. I sold a Lego set on Ebay, shipped it via USPS parcel with signature confirmation. The buyer was not there to sign for the delivery. USPS left a note which she never responded to. So the set was sent back. Now she opened a case against me wanting a refund. 1) what recourse do I have, if any, since she was responsible for not being available? In my ad, I said I would use signature confirmation, which requires an adult to sign for the package. 2) the tracking shows that my returned package has been stuck at some USPS location in my city for more than a month. How do I go about chasing that down? This …

I recently bought a 10211 for $275 free shipping on eBay. The seller said he shipped the item but did not upload the tracking number. I messaged him several times, he did not respond until I opened a case. He said he cannot provide the tracking because he lost the tracking number. He also said he insured the package, so both parties are protected. (I wonder how he can get insurance money without a tracking number.) Then I still never receive the item. Right now we are in the refund process. My question is: is this some kind of scam? I'm curious what's the reason behind that the seller wants to do this. I found it really unlikely that both things happened at the s…

Curious about the other's views as to the various "types" photos commonly used in listings. It seems there are 5 distinct tactics for the main photo in a listing as I see it, particularly as it pertains to brick lots: 1. Live photo of close-up. Listing for 50 of a specific brick where you see one large image, but the listing title calls out "x50" or "Lot of 50". 2. Live photo of small sampling. Same as above, but the image shows perhaps 5/50 of the of actual number of bricks in the lot. 3. Live photo of the exact quantity. Would show all 50 bricks that constitute a lot. 4. Live photo of a massive pile. Hundreds of the brick despite on only 50 …

  6. Hello, As I sell more items - I seem to convert what I sell into buying other sets - mainly used. Should I use two different accounts for buying and selling? Thanks,

I just noticed this morning that the usual way I print shipping labels through ebay is now redirecting me to go through paypal? Did I miss an announcement on this change?

  8. See image below. eBay always displays like this. It is a work-issued laptop. Software prevents access to some website, including some with streaming video, and a few other categories. eBay is not blocked, but always displays like this. This problem doesn't exist with any other websites. Anybody know a fix?

Not sure if this has been mentioned in depth here (I believe I saw one post that briefly stated it), but if you ever create eBay promo listings (like the recent "SELL IN-DEMAND ITEMS FOR FREE* THROUGH DEC 31!" one), make sure not to edit your auction(s) after you list them. I was wondering why my eBay gift certificate total was only a little over $50, when I sold a good number of IR and RE, and it's because there's some fine print: Pretty silly, when I just updated the auction title or prices slightly. Sorry if this is common knowledge, but hopefully it will help out some of you in the future. Anyone able to get eBay CS to still honor revised listings?

Welcome to the 'new world' of eBay seller ratings or should that rip off. I have traded on eBay for 10 years with a 100% or over 99.6% rating during that time. The only defect issues I have faced is having to 2 remove items from sale due to stock unavailability and refunding customers. Now with the new defects score, I am receiving a 'Below Standard' rating by a marginal 0.17%. This now means a 21 day wait for funds to clear from Paypal, higher final value fees, a lower listing position on eBay for items, and other potential restrictions, although they cannot confirm what they are, but could result in an account suspension. The rest of my performance indicators are well w…

  11. About a week ago I ordered 4 tower bridges off of eBay from a top rated seller for 220 each. The seller is a top rated seller with over 200 Feedback The day after the seller notified me that he was out of stock on tower bridges. However he willl make things right Last night I went to the mall to pick up some cafe friends sets at my local Lego store When I returned home. There sat 15 Lego sets. FedEx droppe off 5 ssd 5 Death Star and 5 tower bridge. All shipped from Walmart with stolen credit cards. 2 town hall were not even packed. They slapped at tracking label right on the Lego box Now the question is. What do I do. Who do I contact. How do I cover my ass.

I don't know if this has been asked. I have a Target Gift Card and I wanted to know if I can pay for a purchase from Targets Ebay Store using that GC? I know I can use Ebay bucks but has anyone had any experience in using Gift Cards/Store Credit.

I made a purchase last week and never received any ebay bucks for it. I looked at my ebay bucks summary and it says $0 for the ebay bucks and the reason is that "This purchase was not eligible for eBay Bucks because it was not purchased on www.ebay.com." WTH does that mean? I bought the item (comic) on Ebay.

I had an international buyer claim they did not receive the item after about 10 weeks and is asking for a refund. I don't have a tracking number since that would have cost so much from Canada to overseas. It is a new buyer, dont rememeber if the had any feedback. It couls have gotten lost I guess. Am I basically out my money since I can't provide tracking?

  15. Started by BrickLegacy,

I received an email from Paypal asking for my SSN/EIN. My sales velocity has picked up recently so I'm assuming they ask for this when there is a chance you might reach their reporting thresholds. I should have a EIN by the end of the day today. My Paypal account appears to be fully functional but I have a notification that says "some of your account features may be unavailable because your tax info needs updating." I went ahead and set my eBay store to vacation while I wait on my accountant to process my EIN. I didn't want any sales to go through and have them rejected by Paypal. A few questions for those that have run into this before: Is there a way to …

I'm wondering if anyone has any experience with how Ebay may or may not stack their promotions. Right now they have a promotion going where they will discount your FVF by 50% when you sell using a promotion (for example, 5% off orders over $100). They also have that list of in demand items where they credit your FVF back to you in the form of a gift card at a later date. Both of these promos have you pay the normal FVF now, and then later you get either a gift card (in the case of the in demand items) or a fee credit on your statement (in the case of the promotional sales). I'm wondering how this will hash out in the end for items that I sell that meet both criteria.…

If there's already ready a thread for this please feel free to move this. Saw one of the newer guys had got stung by a fraudulent listing on Ebay the other day. Thought this would be a good idea for people to post here if they are unsure of a listing, or just to make fellow BP'rs aware. Anyway these two popped up last night. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/LEGO-STAR-WARS-UCS-SET-/301753006234?hash=item4641e1789a http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/LEGO-Mindstorms-EV3-31313-/181886118256?hash=item2a5941e970

Just curious how people are searching for their items on eBay and then sorting/filtering. Thought it would be interesting and helpful to see how sellers "shop" on eBay and see how the poll populates.

Is anyone else having issues with printing eBay shipping labels? I usually print 8.5x11 half sheet labels (two 8.5x5.5) labels in landscape. But all of a sudden tonight it printed the label stretched out on a full 8.5x11 sheet in portrait orientation. I didn't change any settings at all. Has this ever happened to anyone else? I tried to change label printing preferences but that only have options for label printers. I use just a normal inkjet printer and the 8.5x5.5 two per sheet. Thanks!

In the past few weeks of selling on eBay, I have noticed that I'm receiving orders from somebody by the same name (different eBay user ID's though) ordering the same set each time, 3189 Heartlake Stables. Each time they order from me they send me something similar to the following message through eBay: "This is a GIFT so please package well inside a sturdy box so item box does not get damaged in the mail. Please do NOT include a note or receipt. Thank you! Can you ship tomorrow? Address as given: ..." Also, the shipping addresses are all unique. I suspect that I'm being used to fill orders for a drop shipper. Do you think this what's going on? If this is what's going on…

Just seen that for Ebay Spain there are some major changes coming next month. 1) Flat rate commission on sales goes from 500 euros to 2500 euros minimum sale. Below 2500, 8% will be the standard and above 2.5k it will be 200 euros. 2) 12 free photos per ad for private sellers as opposed to 1 currently. 3) They are going to roll out changes for business sellers whereby negative voting and complaints dealt with correctly don´t impact on seller ratings. Is it the same in other countries? Point 1 is going to make it less profitable to sell higher value sets like SSD.

  25. So in the past month I've had two odd eBay transactions. In both cases, they had shipping addresses to New Castle, Delaware. First purchase - auction winner did not have a shipping address in account. After numerous back and forth messages to rectify, he told me he barely spoke English, was Chinese, and had stuff shipped to him from a New Castle address he provided. Second purchase - winner e-mailed me 36 hours after the auction ended with this message. In this case, it says member from Germany, but with another New Castle, DE address. it is a very high bid price.I mistake sorry..I want cancel.I'm sorry I opened unpaid case against second person. And made second chanc…
