Discuss great LEGO deals or selling tactics on eBay

  1. Started by MrSam,

Hi folks. I sold an Osprey to someone in Italy a while ago MISB. It took ages to arrive, and has apparently arrived damaged and they want a 100% refund through eBay. I've heard enough horror stories that I'm not 100% surprised, but am unsure what to do from here. They paid $1400US+postage, so they obviously have a huge incentive to get their money back by claiming damage etc. They sent photos which, to be fair, make the damage look fairly genuine (of both the set and the packaging I sent it in). While it's super frustrating, I don't think it's my place to accuse them of doing the damage themselves. Even if that is the case, A: I like to believe the best in p…

Hi Guys So I sold a set on eBay, first time selling but sold a new Ewok Village for $478 free shipping, seller has paid and has a confirmed PayPal shipping address in Texas but he has zero eBay reviews. Not sold anything this big before on eBay, anything I should look out for or do, I am sending it to be signed for but what can I do to protect myself here? Thank you Stu

Been selling on eBay for years and years. Used to use strictly USPS but for anything large then a couple pounds FedEx is so much cheaper now. Problem is eBay is horrible for calculating the shipping price for packages. Anyone found a way to get more accurate shipping rates? It's always in my favor as a seller, but a lot of the quotes it gives people are astronomical compared to the actual price. Not uncommon at all for a buyer to be quoted/pay $40-$50 for shipping on a decent size set but my actual shipping cost only ends up being $15-$20. Problem is there doesn't seem to be a rhyme or reason behind it. USPS calculations are still close so I can't just put in …

  4. I just have a question regarding the current situation we are all in. I have recently lost all my main business earnings for the time being due to the lockdown we currently have in the uk, however I still have the lego side of my business which I'm able to continue with if I choose. However I am very unsure on if I should be continuing it or not through the post offices. In the uk the post offices are allowed to be open and people at this given time are still allowed to post pretty much whatever item them want. I want to make clear that since the lockdown has been in place I HAVEN'T posted anything and have removed all my listings on ebay. I still however see so many…

So I have a fairly expensive set listed at buy it now for middle point of all listings of this set (about $400). I get a message today from a buyer with 0 feedback and it just seems off. They first volunteer how they “must have” this set. Then next sentence tell me they are disabled so spending this amount of money is absurd for them but they are going to anyway. Then they state how the item has to be sealed, must be shipped in double boxes and that I must accept return if there is any damage (even though my listing says “no returns”). My listing guarantees sealed set and new condition. I hate to jump to the fact this instantly feels like a scam but…

  6. So it seems as of today, to now get top rated plus on your eBay listings you must choose "Seller Pays - Free Returns" under returns, as well as 1 or same day handling and 30 days or more returns. This is so annoying. Now to get this discount, I basically have to state I'll always cover return shipping.... So now I guess I take my listings case by case and see what is more profitable - getting that 10% final value fee discount vs covering myself from paying a large return shipping fee. So ultimately this comes down to weight of an item I guess? ......and EVEN IF I have buyer cover the costs, theres always the chance the buyer chooses "item not as described" …

I was just notified that one of my items sold on eBay. When I went to mail it, I noticed that it was listed at $45, but the offer of $42 was automatically accepted. The customer service person I spoke to tried to tell me that the boxes "automatically accept offers more than xxxx" and "automatically decline offers less than xxxxxx" were NOT checked off and that was why it happened. Yesterday, I received a low offer on an item and was able to decline it, so I don't know if this is something new or has more to do with the offer price being only $3 less than the listed price. I'm setting those boxes to accept offers a penny less than my asking price and decline off…

I thought I'd create a new topic as this isn't really "fruitcake" stuff, more like scamming bar stewards! Out of the last 16 Star Wars UCS sets that I've sold, 4 have been "purchased" using compromised sellers' accounts - that's a shocking 25% fraud rate! Since this appears to be on the increase, I suggest you contact the buyer to confirm purchase and maybe wait 48 hours before posting any valuable item as it gives eBay/PayPal a chance to flag the transaction and advise you. I know this delays shipment, but any genuine buyer will understand. This has only affected Star Wars sets so far as it's seems that the fraudsters aren't too interested in Modulars or Sea Co…

Did something change in PayPal and eBay that prevents paying with a balance that you have in your account? Do I need to transition to PayPal Cash account to be able to do this? Anybody else seeing this?

USA based small-time seller who has sold exclusively to USA buyers... Have recently listed a USA exclusive lot with Global Shipping Program option to expand buyer pool... Getting offers from Canadian buyers... Would I still be mailing the package to Kentucky and eBay handles the international part? Listing has buyer paying a fixed dollar amount for shipping and don't want to get burned by having to pay for Canadian shipping instead of Kentucky... Feel free to rip me one if deserved....

  14. In an attempt to revert back to 1981 K-Tel Records payment structures, eBay will begin intermediating payments on its Marketplace platform. eBay is happy to announce plans to further improve the customer experience by intermediating payments on our Marketplace platform. In doing so, eBay will manage the payments flow, simplifying the end-to-end experience for both buyers and sellers. We have signed an agreement with Adyen, a leading global payments processor, to become our primary payments processing partner. PayPal, a long-time eBay partner, will be a payments option at checkout for eBay buyers. You do not need to take any action at this time. The transition t…

  15. My friend bought the Chinese new year set and just received it today. The seals look tampered with, one is loose and one has a fingerprint on it. What should she do? Open the box to check the contents? Or try to return right away? If she opens it and there are pieces missing, is she able to open an item not described case and get her money back? She is going to open up to build so it is not for investment purposes. Sent from my SM-G930W8 using Tapatalk

  19. So I ordered a first order walker from a high volume seller that I was certain had a price error. After a month of them citing stock issues, I finally requested a refund and left feedback. If they had just been honest about the price error, I would have just let it go. A simple mistake. I just wanted to see how long they would hold my money and tell me their supplier was being unreasonable. So I left feedback and almost instantly received an offer of a free set to change my feedback. So I'm caught between the Rogue one AT-ST and Kylo's tie. The ATST is iconic with a high ceiling, but could be remade in a hurry. Kylo's tie may not see another v…

Is there a way to stop from certain sellers popping up while searching Ebay lisitngs? I'm just tired of having to scroll through "2 pounds of Lego, 8 ounces of Lego, 1 lb of Lego lots" spammed over and over and over again. Pick a Lego Weight and it seems to be there. Or obviously seeing the same backdrop 100 times. Just curious, thanks

Hi, eveyone. I got a 1099 (I think -K) in the mail yesterday from eBay. I don't have it with me right now, but I think it said less than $700 in income from eBay. I check on eBay and I can't find a total for 2017, but I can look up fees, and my fees for 2017 were $57.15, and so since eBay takes 10%, that would mean my sales were about $571. That sounds about right - I don't sell much, it's just an occasional thing. So I was wondering if I really have to report this, and googled it, and everything I found says eBay sends 1099s if you have more than 200 transactions or $20K in sales - neither is true. So... why did I get a 1099 and do I really have to report it?

So I listed my first LEGO sets on eBay and they ended tonight. I specified in the auction to contact me before bidding if you have less than 10 feedback. Well no one contacted me and 2 of the auctions ended with the winning bidder having 0 feedback. One is a new member as of 2013. What do I do? Do I ship the items? Do I trust these buyers?
