Really Non LEGO Stuff

Whether LEGO related or just anything fun and interesting, talk about it here.

  1. Hi guys, so was doing some reading on wired today... saw this http://www.wired.com/opinion/2013/05/lets-cut-through-the-bitcoin-hype/ This is the wikipedia page that tells you about Bitcoin (if you were as clueless as I was about it two years ago) http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bitcoin What do you guys think about a new currency like this? Would it help or hurt online sales, both Legal and otherwise. Do you think it would help lego investors as being an easier way to transfer funds..? Just thought it could be fun to talk about..

Akin to the "Musical Picks" topic, I want to hear what your all time favourite movies/television shows are. It can be anything from action to drama to sports to romance (who watches that anyway though?). Don't be shy and don't be mean to other members, even if they really did enjoy Superbaby-Geniuses or whatever that piece of crap was called I'll start off with a couple of my favs; I find most of the ones I put down are great films all together, but have shining endings. Blood Diamond (Thriller/Drama): Leo DiCaprio picks up a sick south african accent in this eye-opening thriller/drama. Great music but if you're a Leo fan, you can probably already guess how it en…

Since we have a pretty popular "Complaint Thread", I thought it might be a good idea to start an "I Love It! Thread". I'd like to begin with: I love it when I make a big $500 or more purchase because of a sale or great deal and shortly afterward make enough back in sales to cover the costs and then some. It helps with the buyer's guilt.

If there is one thing I have learned, it's that music truly is the most universal language in the world. Besides myself looking for yet another excuse to post anything at all or just a good one to post music videos, I would like everyone here to feel free to post links to some of your favorite tunes and/or talk about what you like to listen to. Consider this thread your very own little "House of Blues" as it were. Anyway as for an opening post, I had some difficulty trying to think of a good opener, a nice ice breaker everyone may enjoy, and well I came up with this. Enjoy. Disclaimer: Everyone has their own likes & dislikes which includes their listening preferen…

Note: Invest at your own risk. Do you own homework before buying / selling. Don’t assume advice posted here is financially sound. Wanted to create an investment thread about stocks and how market conditions can impact those investments. Thought about creating one in 2020 but with COVID & other items going on, I didn’t. Instead, I posted in a similar thread on another non-investing web site. Posts can include topics relating to individual securities : stocks, bonds, options, indices, & ETFs. Sharing informative links encourage. Please DON’T get political or posts will be removed.

  7. Hi all - I've noticed a lot of talk about kids, their likes and dislikes, complaints, and all sorts of other things, seeping into a bunch of other topics. So, why don't we all just talk about them here? I'll start moving some posts here. We've been talking everything from Minecraft, to potty training, to Thomas the Tank trains.

There is good and bad in every day. Share what was good or what was bad. Just a thread to share what happened in your day.

  9. It's funny cause its true!!! lol!

  10. So if Marvel can be seen as taking the "High Road"...it looks like DC is taking... the "low" and by "low" I mean grittier, sexier, and basically the R-rated route: I applauds DC for flipping the conversation on super hero movies (clue...it's always been about the villians) Anyway...it's a LEGO club so...what's the over on the HQ mf in Apocalspburg? https://www.vulture.com/2019/10/birds-of-prey-trailer-margot-robbie.html "Woooooh!...Who's having a good time!" (Ewan Mcgreggor's character doing his best Pacino/Nick Cage impression as a gangster)

  11. Last year, many of us watched Sharknado 2 online together. Well, sorta, We actually posted comments during the movie and had a great time. As Jeff recently said, watching it is like "like Christmas in July". Are you ready for "Sharknado 3: Oh Hell No! (9 pm ET/PT)." It's on tomorrow (Weds) evening. The movie's premise is classic : A monstrous tornado unleashes ravenous sharks from Washington, D.C., all the way down to Orlando, Fla. The cast is promising! I only need to mention 1 name, David Hasselhoff https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sharknado_3:_Oh_Hell_No!#Cast

What began as a simple video-sharing service started by three former PayPal employees way back in February 14 of 2005 later to be purchased by Google in November 2006 has since become a staple of the internet and our lifestyles (for most of us). The very first uploaded clip was a guy's brief trip to a local zoo with some commentary which is completely mild where today's uploads can range from a variety of critics raging on about some movie, a gamer showing off how fast he/she can beat that insane level of Sonic, to even a corporation like BBC reporting what's happening. There is a high volume of absurdity to be found unfortunately between the comments section on many or c…

  14. So...anyone else an Olympics junkie like me? There's quite a few sports that I enjoy watching. Just wondering if anyone else is going to be watching this stuff for the next two weeks like I will be. Some of my favorites sports are Volleyball (beach and indoor, male and female), Road Bike Race, Marathon, Diving, Swimming, Rowing, and Rugby. What about everyone else? I'm psyched that "my girl", Kerri Walsh-Jennings is playing tonight.

Thought this deserved its own thread so doesn't clog up other ones. USA Basketball lost once again, this time to France. Will be interesting to see how they turn this around. Too many people making excuses for the team when they really be playing better, seems to me that: 1. Team selection was based on a "shooting" team, as they expected to just 3 pointer the opposition to death, this obviously hasn't been working. 2. People saying that US aren't playing there best players, but that's up for players to choose to play for the team. Too many just want to play for NBA and don't care about Olympics. 3. No excuse for team chemistry, as players once again ch…

It was my birthday on the 15th, and I have a fun little birthday story I thought other Lego addicts might enjoy. A present from my wife, a stylish new hat. A gift from my daughter. Can you guess what they are? Yes, they are felted Lego blocks. Then a card from my son. Signed by my whole family. How sad. But luckily I ordered something for myself from eBay. I didn't open the shipping box until my birthday and found an unexpected birthday surprise. The seller threw it in for free. 5 star service. An amazing day all around,

I hope this is ok to do. Please feel free to delete it if necessary. If you're looking for a kids book for a Christmas present take a look at "Kyppa and the Duckling". My girlfriend wrote this story to honor our late Rottweiler Kyppa. It's a cute story she's had in her head for years and finally put a book together. Thanks for looking! http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/1514601966?psc=1&redirect=true&ref_=oh_aui_detailpage_o04_s00

So, here's an odd story. On my neighborhood's Facebook page, on Friday, someone posted a picture of a FedEx Ground truck. They asked if anyone knew what was going on, as it had been sitting there for a few days, appearing to not have moved. Of course, neighborhood drama and discussion ensued, with questions of "why doesn't someone call the Sheriff?" "Why doesn't someone call FedEx?" "Why doesn't someone call the media?" It took a good day before someone actually DID anything other than suggest that someone do something. Someone went and checked it out, and it was unlocked, and loaded with local packages for delivery. That person locked the truck up. The…

  24. What's everybody's experience building brick sets from non-LEGO brands like Cobi, MEGA, Xingbao, Wange, QMan, Sembo and so forth? Do you think there's good/any investment potential in these alternative brands' sets? MEGA and Cobi have (already proven) potential for sure, but what those Chinese manufacturers? Another point I'd like to address and hear your thoughts about here: In Germany there's this company called Blue Brixx, whose progression and altercations with TLG I've been following very closely over the last months, mainly due to its "David vs Goliath" appeal. They are pretty serious not only about distributing alternative brands (now even being THE off…
