After some random research and browsing of certain sets (mainly City and modular houses), I noticed something a little discerning. A large lack of baseplates in any set at all anymore. For example, take a good look at the previous Fire Station in 2010. Aside from having a wierd floorplan, it used four baseplates of two different types. 16 x 16 baseplate with driveway & 8 x 16 baseplate Now take a look at this year's Fire Station. Less wierd floorplan but the structure is more odd and absolutely no baseplates used. Everything is thick three 16 x 16 plates and a single 8 x 16 plate. I don't know about you but for $100 I expect some actual baseplates t…

Based on the former SF3D now called Maschinen Krieger ZbV 3000 (alternatively "Ma.K") universe created by Kow Yokoyama back around 1982 as a series made from kit-bashed models to tell a story, this collective of builds are meant to capture the unique style of this science-fiction realm with powered armor suits, rounded hover tanks, various aircraft and more. Further delving into this world of war, I am beginning to understand the attraction for the core concept. The hardsuits in particular have an inspiring air of familiarity. While there is an annual building month event every October called "Ma.Ktoberfest", this primary topic will highlight all these fan builds over tim…

Ok, it is the holiday lull... unless you chose to ship FBM this year! So, a diversion is in order. I have been planning on building a city for a while, and it is nearly time. To be honest, I resell lego just to fund my lego city account. Our basement is almost done, (I will start building new lego tables in January) and I have an area, not as large as I would like, but much bigger than nothing! So I am building a tiered city, using Eureka Springs, Arkansas as my inspiration It. It is built into the side of an Ozark Mountain, and it very "tiered". I would love to see all of your layouts for inspiration, so post them below! I will try to update my progres…

The last Lego sets I put together were in the early 80's (space sets). I haven't opened any of the stuff I've bought over the last two years, and don't really have the desire to.

  7. Started by jaisonline,

Picked one up for $515. It just arrives. Includes all 3 instructions. I'm also trying to figure out a way to get the box which is in below avg condition for next to peanuts. Anyway, I decided to start with the upper 3rd part. With all these dark bley elements, I'm started to go "mad". It is frak-in nuts (so many bags). ...and I thought all the white elements drive me crazy while building 10198 (Tantive IV) last week. I started grouping all the same elements together. Can't wait to sell this one. However, I need to build it for pics and make sure it is 100 % complete. The last I sold was in the box and had a few sealed bags so I never checked before selling…

I finally finished my build of the 10179 UCS Millennium Falcon yesterday. Such an Epic build! I highly recommend it to anyone out there to give this thing a go at least once if you get the opportunity. I have built plenty of large sets before including at least half a dozen UCS sets but nothing compared to this. As I was building it I really got the sense that the designers went all out and no expense was spared in creating it. All the little greebling parts were not skimped on at all and the rigid internal frame was superbly engineered to hold the large weight of the model. It took me many many hours, perhaps 50+ working off an on over the last 6 wee…

I thought it might be helpful to get a thread going for indecisive people like me. I would be open to others listing their "dilemmas" as well in order to avoid multiple threads. I ordered the Grand Emporium, but as I somewhat expected the order was cancelled due to it being over sold. I had decided that I was going to spend about $150 on a set to build this month, but I am having trouble deciding what to go with. The investment potential is at the bottom of my list, I am more looking for an enjoyable build and something that will look good on display. My hope is to build a city for my son as time goes on. Here are my ideas so far: Fair Ground Mixer Pala…

    Started by Guest brickcrazyhouse,

For those who build I was wondering. When building do you prefer building by instructions an "Emmet", or building without instructions "Master Builder"? I'm way more to the side of without. Just a big kid who never paid enough attention to every step. That and I still have way more fun building what ever from a pile of bricks. ***/f is the polar opposite, prefers building with instruction, and "having it right".

  12. Lego fan builds world's longest toy train circuit out of 93,000 bricks - and it takes more than three hours to go round http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-2364154/Lego-fan-builds-worlds-longest-toy-train-circuit-93-000-bricks.html I am personally not a fan. I want a townscape...some buildings etc. I guess it's kinda cool b/c that thing is HUGE but, that just does not look fun to me.

Just a random thought but when (if) you display your sets, do you separate the yellow minifigs from the flesh ones? Say you have Star Wars, Harry Potter, etc. sets that some of the early licensed sets used the yellow while the newer ones used the flesh... do you display them all together? Maybe it's just my OCD but when they're all together it looks... weird.

Just got my pirate ship ambush from walmart.com and when I opened it up there were no minifigures inside whatsoever. The box was minty and sealed, and all the bags were sealed but somehow this happened. Has this happened to anyone else and what did you do?

  15. Started by Neosphinx,

Why do LEGO bricks turn yellow? LEGO bricks are made of Acrylonitril-butadieen-styreen or for short ABS. ABS is very cheap and very sturdy. It is however flammable (they add product against it) and also very sensible to UV-light, oxygen, moist and heat. If LEGO bricks are exposed too much to these elements, they will turn yellow. So best to keep your used LEGO dry, dark, temperate and preferably wrapped in a plastic bag to keep out oxygen. But there is good news for those precious sets that were not kept in that manner. I recently bought a second had 6339-1 Launch Pad from a woman on a second hand site in "GOOD" condition, but turned out it was completely yellowed. I…

  16. This will sort of be a "progress" thread so i will continue to share pictures through the process. Wasn't sure where to post this, but this seems to be a good spot for now. As many of you know i wall mounted my bricklinked 10179 and posted it on these forums, it was a fun endeavor and a great way to display the monster. I've since moved to a smaller condo and now more than ever do i need the room. So i plan to (try) do the same with 75192. I managed to pick one up in store lining up at 6am or so and being 5th in line when my local store (Sherway) got a restock. After about a week i have finally finished building it, and now it's time to start brainstorming ho…

  18. Alright so I just got a couple of bins that include 10 Star Wars sets assumed to be complete. What is the best way to sort them? I have never done it before. Sort them by color all at once, then try to put them together? Just build them one by one out of the bin? Try to sort the obvious pieces first and then just sort them set by set? I am a bit lost. lol.

  19. If you're like me, you've always wanted a pub for your town! (Okay I actually wanted an Irish pub but this is good too!) This was recently added (I think, it wasn't there before) to the list of designs available at Brick Builders Pro. White Lion English Pub - instructions page I only wish I could find a real build of the design. It is impressive but would be more so if actually built. Guess I'm just picky that way. Added the parts list image. This design uses: 1,841 pieces

I just finished my version of the Grand Emporium. I had to use 3 1/2 GE's for this building. My inspiration was a picture from the web: Especially the windows in the middle are very nice. But i wanted a larger MOC with 2 original GEs on the left and the right. (corner buildings on the left and the right, a straight building in the middle) The GE on the right is 100% a GE, the one on the left is almost original. I only had to change the roof, because i wanted to have the large windows next to the straight MOC windows. The straight MOC was build with parts from 2 GEs, especially the tan parts. I still have to build the interior of the straight MOC (m…

  21. Anybody figure out a pattern or logic to LEGO including extra bricks to new sets other than just providing a small bonus? I don't build alot and I don't open multiples of the same set to notice a pattern. Maybe the parting out people can indicate if multiples of the same set have the exact number and type of bonus bricks? Or is it truely random in what you recieve in any given set. Sometimes when building sets in the 1000 piece range or more I am sometimes amazed that I'll have maybe 20 bricks left over, though I'm sure I completed the model 100% completely, lol! I can't say for sure because I'll never take the time to do a brick inventory count. But small sets of 100 or…

  22. We can use this topic to share pictures and stories of "official" Lego prototypes (aka sketches) of products that were produced or not. Please cite the source if using info from other places. I discovered two sets of pictures today on eurobricks. The picture below is of a larger 1) Speeder Bike and 2) Tie Advanced model and was in a early 2000s Lego magazine. The official release of the UCS 10175 Vader Tie Advanced set debuted in 2006 / 2007. http://www.brickpicker.com/bpms/set.cfm?set=10175-1 Here is another pretty famous prototype of Yavin IV that appeared in DK's Star Wars Lego: The Visual Dictionary.

My daughter and I just made a video showing our lego city layout. Still a work in progress, however we just finished the benches so finally were able to merge our 9v trains with our modulars. next we plan to build MOC roads brick by brick. Check it out on youtube. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HAzYLMoCi1Q Hope you like it.

I bet a lot of people here would meet the job qualifications (Do you have “LEGO building experience” and “a good knowledge of LEGO parts”?): http://qz.com/600927/dream-job-alert-legoland-is-hiring-model-builders/ Assuming location wouldn't be a problem (Florida): would you do it?
