Trains

Discussion for collecting and investing with Train themed sets.

  1. Lego trains are a favorite of mine. Which has the best investment potential?

Anyone else think this set will be parted out (especially if discounted a lot) for the track? It appears to have 16 curved and 4 straight PF tracks in "Dark Bley". The curved tracks are quite costly on the secondary market since flex tracks aren't very popular. As noted, retail price is 99.99. Granted, that might be higher price for parting out (unlike other sets with a decent amount of desirable minifigs. E.g. Jabba's Palace)

With the New Passenger and Cargo Train out in the wild these sets (IMO) have a very limited shelf life left. Are the new ones better, perhaps. But that is not the question to be asking. If you can find a discount, can you make mad Lego cash on the retireing sets? That my Lego friends is the question worth asking. Lego is nearly sold out of both. We have seen sets go from sold out directly to retirement. I don't see a lot of business sense in keeping the old stock around for TLG. For once Toys R Us does not have them in stock online. BTW Walmart online still has both (7939 - 7938) in stock slightly less than retail +TAX...at those prices not…

  4. Started by bibious,

Amazon has these marked at ~93 bucks. Seemed like a pretty sweet deal for 7938 so I picked up. Thoughts on this set? Looks like it came out in 2010 so could it be going EOL soon?

I didn't understand the problem with flexible tracks and de-railings. I didn't,t have this problem ... Until I rebuilt my track. I noticed that the individual pieces have small half circular joints in the middle. I texted and found that when these were all facing the same way, I had no issues. When I mixed them up again, I had problems again. These tracks work great !

This set is bringing back big money! It was sold for $40 new and there isn't one available for less than $400. http://www.brickpicker.com/bpms/set.cfm?set=10022-1 That is like 1000% increase from MSRP. WOW!!!!!

  7. This post is strictly because I'm curious. Why did Lego do off with 9V trains? Was it a safety issue with kids and plugging something in? Will they go back to 9V?

  8. Started by willy431,

Folks, I bought a partial used 9v train set...looks like most of it is there--but no directions. I made a quick track circuit and put the base engine (with metal wheels) on...turned on the juice...but no motion. Light turns green on power pack. Anybody know what usually goes wrong with these--or what to check? I was just going to make sure the stuff worked--then list as partial kit used on eBay. Came as part of a lot I bought...wasn't too interested....but for 50 bucks...thought I wouldn't lose and lady really wanted me to buy everything.

  9. Just like the title says. I have one that runs for about a minute but slows then stops completely. I know the seller I got the lot from washed everything including the track and motor so I am assuming its just cooked. I took it apart and there is a unique motor in there that looks like it would be impossible to find. Anyone repaired one? Thanks in advance!

I cant wait to get my hands on the new 10233 Horizon Express : http://brickset.com/detail/?Set=10233-1. I love my 10219 Maersk Train but I find it uses too many stickers. The new 10233 doesnt look like it relies as much on stickers as the Maersk train does, wich is a really good thing to me because I hate stickers!

Hi everyone, Does anyone has an idea of the value of the rare train set "65537-1: Classic Freight Train"? The only information that I found is here were the price is around 185$ and on bricklink (just one set) http://www.bricklink.com/catalogPriceGuide.asp?S=65537-1 were the value is around 2600 EUR. I know it is a really rare set but how to put a value on it. The set is NISB because there is a little wearing on the box. Can somebody help with this. Thanks, Anthony

I am the proud owner of a full Santa FE train, this includes 5 carriages and two engine carriages for each end, neither with boxes or instructions unfortunately :/ .I also own a smaller vintage train with a electronic engine and alot of track! I have been wondering for a while now what this would be worth and how rare these sets are! Any help would be great!!

  15. What about the 12 Volt train motor, to a modern one that Lego uses today? Power functions motor without all the battery boxes or sensors in other cars. Like a motor with a small battery and sensor already on the train motor itself. It would be like running a 12V train(Example 7730) without the battery in another car. It would be compact as 1 part, but still retaining the motor shape and size used for the last 35 years. And the middle wheels would be included too, and the driving rods as well to keep that retro realistic look.

10277 The Crocodile Locomotive - 1271 pieces Its been a LONG time since we had some Creator Expert train love!

  17. Started by ahming2121,

I'll bet on 7939 coz: 1. Produced in 2010, 2 years already. 2. Train series with power unit, all time favorite 3. Many special features like mini cars, yellow Lego container, red truck... 4. Yellow color is much better than red (3677) as a "Cargo train" (just my personal point of view) I think it will EOL soon and will raise to over $200 by the end of this year, after Lego announced some new trains for 2013. Any thoughts?

  18. Started by Greanie,

Just want to start a discussion about this train . . . Looks like it may be a good "Base" to modify into something close to a "Stock" buildout. I dont MOC trains very well, so i generally take a stock or base set and modify. What have you done so far, or how does it look against the others?

  19. Started by IMDeus,

I am still fairly new to LEGO. Two years now. I don't know much about the history. Is it likely that LEGO will release new monorail sets? With new or old track, doesn't matter. I know they restructured years ago and got a better focus but I am not sure if that involved dissolving certain implementations .

So I can get a 7939 Cargo Train for 150

Hey guys, while checking out TRU, I noticed they had the 10507 - DUPLO My First Trian Set marked at half off TRU prices in store. Checking their website, they have it listed as out of stock, and I notice that none of the other big player retailers have the set in stock/listed on their website. It still is listed as Avail now on SHOPLEGO, but I have a strong feeling this set is heading for a very quick retirement. It's shocking because the previous incarnation of this set was out for 4-5 years, and this one came out in Aug 2013. So either there may have been a mistake with the set itsellf, or DUPLO may be replacing it or possibly even moving away from …

Mods, if this doesn't merit a thread, feel free to move. This is less about investment (although this is a good set I think for the discounts people are getting it at), and more about building. Anyone else built this? We popped one open tonight, and instead of 4 straight track pieces, it included 4 sets of 4. So 16 total. That is weird right? Or based on the piece count do they always represent 4 pieces that way in the instructions?

  23. I tried looking for a thread to place this in but couldn't find an appropriate one. So if the mods know of a better thread for this, please relocate it. I don't know anything about Fx Bricks, I just thought this might be useful for those with 9V LEGO train systems. I came across a video for Fx Bricks re-producing LEGO's 9V metal train track (100% LEGO compatible) that just began March 1, 2021. They mention LEGO in their advertising and website quite extensively. Technically this falls into a knock-off brand but they are producing something that LEGO discontinued many years ago and they look to be adding to the options for 9V track that LEGO never produced (includ…

The original Santa Fe train has a high value for the moment. But what about those Moc's around the www that in santa fe-style. for example the B-car engine (xtra engine care behind the loc). Any opinion on what you should pay for it. since they are not lego originals they are worth less, but since they are as rare as the originals (using parts of them) they are worth more ? is there a balance between these statements, then are they valued like the originals? please share your opinion about them here. if you come accros similar wagons for sale please share the info so i can make an estimed on how much i should spend on this one.

Any thoughts on this set as an investment? I haven't collected a ton of trains yet, but as part of a city layout this seems like it could be interesting, particularly paired with the Passenger Train or Horizon Express. As an aside, some sort of large train station for the Creator Modular series would be pretty awesome. I am surprised they haven't done a train station with a bigger piece count yet.
