The LEGO Movie

Discussion for collecting and investing with sets based on The LEGO Movie

  1. Started by Darth Lego,

I saw an article about this and I decided I should share it with you guys/gals. There is a new animated Lego movie coming out called.... "The Lego Movie" by the Warner Bros. (I'm pretty sure they could have came up with a better name.) (: Anyways, the movie is slated to be shown in U.S. theaters on February 7th 2014. (Shown in 2D and 3D.) The cast includes Will Arnett from "Arrested Development", Morgan Freeman, Liam Neeson from "Taken 2", Alison Brie from "Community", Nick Offerman from "Parks and Recreation", and Elizabeth Banks from the "Hunger Games." The directors/writers are Phil Lord and Christopher Miller. (21 Jump Street, and Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs.) …

  2. Started by Doofy McGee,

I find it interesting that it is scheduled to come out in 2017. I would imagine that they could easily have it out by late 2015 and the quality, demand, and reception wouldn't suffer at all. Does anyone else think this seems oddly far away? Especially by today's standards?

  3. Started by SLL,

Not seeing anyone mentioned it yet. Four new movie2 BH

  4. Started by Doofy McGee,

Does anybody think this exclusive polybag (30280) will be worth grabbing? I still don't know how I feel about the movie sets, but I am a polybag junkie, especially when they're free!

    Started by Guest,

The Lego Movie Micromanager Attack 30281 polybag has been spotted at Meijer... Hopefully it shows up at other stores as well since I am not driving 90 minutes to go to Meijer!

I noticed the Cloud Cuckoo Palace is listed online as online only now (and shows sold out ). Does this suggest some of the early Lego Movie sets will start to lose their shelf space in stores? As a former store logistics manager, when we couldn't keep something in stock we eventually dropped it from our system and gave the space to an adjacent product. I wonder if a second wave of movie sets might be coming? This set has been popular in stores and online for awhile, I wonder if replenishment will ever catch up at the store level. I'm always on the lookout for unique sets to add to my modular street setup. I'm curious how this set, when built in the convential ice cream truck configuration, might look parked across the street from the Pet Shop or Green Grocer?

70810 MetalBeard's Sea Cow is a great set...apart from the miniaturized version of MetalBeard himself. This obviously means that the only realistic version of MetalBeard fans can acquire is in fact 70807 MetalBeard's Duel. I think this disappointed a few fans to realize they got a wimpier version of MetalBeard in a $250 set, but that's all a part of LEGO. Since he is *technically* an exclusive figure (I say technically because he's a buildable model more than a figure, but whatev's), is this a better "The LEGO Movie" set to stock up on?

What do people think of this as investment?

  11. Started by Jules_K,

I haven't seen much discussion about this set, I guess it falls under the general discussion of "will Lego Movie sets perform well". I think this set has a lot going for it, with 4 exclusive mini-figures, Vitruvius (who is only available elsewhere in the Sea Cow) and Lord Business in his full evil attire. What are other peoples thoughts on this set? How long do people think this first wave of Lego Movie sets will stay in stores for?

708 pcs. 4 minifigs (Emmet, Angry Uni-Kitty, and 2 Skeletrons). RRP US$59.99, CA $74.99, EUR 59.99 I'd been hoping to buy this one below US$40. Now on sale at TRU.com at $55.99. There were a couple aging in the clearance aisle at my Walmart at $45... then there was one... and now, with Amz prices at $69.99, I decided I'd better get it. I bought it as a special treat, I gave it to my son last night. We love it. Very fun set, fun to build, fun to play with. Has lot's of interesting, large, chunky parts... pieces "you don't see every day". Once these run out at the retailers, I think this could be a winner.

  15. Started by chopstick,

Since the Green Ninja is in the 70815-1: Super Secret Police Dropship which is not yet released, how do you think this will affect the value of the Spinner Loyd ZX 9574?

  16. I plan on picking up 4-5 this year. Does that sound unreasonable? I usually pick up sets that are closer to retirement but since I can get them a B&****** for under $60. Plus there is always that wildcard of that set being sold out during Christmas so they might go for $140 on ebay and then after the holidays use that money to pick up 8-10 of those sets. Thoughts?

  17. Started by Trains 'n boats,

Surprised to see that this set didn't have a topic yet. I've seen this one called "The Lego Movie" Battle Pack, which I thought was apt. Iconic (albeit small) item, buncha figures. This one seems like a winner to me. Could be a double winner if the couch shows back up in TLM2 (if there is one)? TNB

I noticed each of these product animations for The LEGO Movie 2 sets all use the same Retro/Synthwave style track making me wonder who they commissioned to do the film's soundtrack if this is any indication kind of like how Daft Punk did the musical score for Tron Legacy.
