It seems as of late, that almost every listing with Modulars or some other valuable Lego set, that starts well below MSRP is a scam. Anybody else feel that way?

When you go into the Lego Store, do you feel like the employees are up your butt trying to figure out what you are up to? I can't shop there in peace and do my Reconnaissance?

Asset Class What It Is: An asset class is a group of investments that have similar characteristics, behave similarly and are subject to similar market forces, laws and regulations. Typical asset classes include stocks, bonds, real estate, cash and commodities. These groups can also be broken down further. For example, the asset class "stocks" can be broken down either by industry -- e.g., manufacturing, automotive or energy -- or by a more general characteristic of the investment -- e.g., value, growth or blue chip. After reading the above definition for an "asset class," should LEGO "investment" in sets and bricks be considered one? Is LEGO investment that seriou…

Over the past 4-5 years, the world economies have struggled. You would think that this would reduce Lego sales and prices, especially in the secondary markets like Ebay. But Lego has record profits and Lego set prices remain strong on auction sites. So my question to you is: Is Lego investing recession proof?

  5. There is a recent thread about what sets you just don't buy. Sort of along those lines, let's say you are not a fan of a specific theme or a set in a theme, is there a magic cutoff discount that will make you buy regardless? For instance, around here, the Hobbit Mirkwood Spiders sets are $10-15. I wasn't really a fan of this set, but I decided to pick up a few at $10 because 66% off seemed like a great deal. Still, I didn't load up on them even though I could have... Another set I'm not really that excited about is the Hobbit Goblin King set, but I have a strong feeling this set will be marked down to 70% off ($30), I'm wondering if I should just pick som…

  6. I am looking for a site that can help identify lego sets without their instructions or set numbers. For instance, if I type in "yellow car" it gives me a list of all lego sets that might resemble that set. I know of several sights like this for other toys but cannot find one for lego. Does one exist?

  7. I was wondering if any MOC vets know this. Was just curious if any of the websites can show sets that use a lot of pieces per a certain color, like sand green, etc? I know BL shows you which sets per year use certain colors, but was wondering if any dove into percentages of color so you could sort for the sets with the most.

  8. I understand this may be asking much, but is there an all-time lego checklist available anywhere on the web? I understand that BrickPicker has it by year, but is there a complete list of all lego sets in one?

  9. Some of the sets come with posters, collectable cards, comics, etc. I'm just wondering if there are any sites that have pictures or lists of what is included in each box. The used lot I bought a few weeks ago has all the extra stuff, but I don't know what belongs to which set, and I'd like to piece it all together!

I think I just entered into a new era of Legodom. Loved Lego as a kid, emerged from the dark ages as an adult for the Star Wars initial release, then returned to a second dark age with work-and-life-stuff. Arrival of The Next Generation gave me reason to step back into it, along with a mandate that I get some sort of hobby that doesn't involve a kitchen remodel when my partner is out of town for a long weekend. Thus Era 3 began, and for the last few years I've been overdoing it, following your antics, sales and deal hunting. I got into the sales game. All progressing. Then, I bought a few yard sale lots. Then a few more. Then a few more. Then …

Hi guys, I'm new to the joys of Lego collecting and have a couple questions. Question 1: On Ebay and CL I'm seeing a lot of sets for sale that have opened boxes but sealed bags, I don't quite understand this. If you aren;t going to build the set, why decrease the value by opening the box in the first place? Is it possible people are building the sets, then somehow re-sealing the pieces back into their original bags? Question 2: I realize that MiSB is the way to go as far as re-sale value is concerned, but if I also really enjoy building the sets I buy, does the "used" market still offer the ability to make some decent $$ too? If so, this might be the way…

There is a guy near me who has 1000's of polybags for sale. They range from Pirates of the Caribbean to New Star Wars. He even has 13 Admiral Yularen which I'm pretty sure hasn't been released yet. How do you think he came about these? He also has unopened boxes of Lego Movie cmf's. My first thought was it could be stolen merch but he has polys from 2007. What do you guys think? His prices are pretty low. ($5 for VW for instance)

Hey hey. New to the site so this is my first post. I have 1 of only 3 made Lego Batman Sky Broadband Tech Team sets. As there is only 3 in existence, is this the sort of thing that is worth anything? Cheers folks ?

  16. Certain sets like 75016, 75017, 75021, and 75013 have been keeping closer to the $0.10 per piece standard most people use when judging sets, and others, like 75002 and 75015 actually have more pieces than the standard. Could this be a sign that Lego is lowering its prices slightly?

Wow. We went to 3 lego stores this morning looking for more crawlers....gone. Every store was sold out and no more coming. That was bittersweet news for obvious reasons. The great news for all of us...you could barely walk in ALL 3 of these stores! I've never seen them thus crowded...not even at Christmas. People were walking out with ewoks and opera houses....I couldn't believe it! Kids were buying chima..and knew all the characters and tribes. Now with walmart, target, and even tru nearly doubling their lego space...this is just starting to take off. They had 3 registers going at burlington...and still lines of people. Never seen this. Best thingI overheard was an eld…

Hey guys, Love Lego, but I'm starting to wonder if people in the UAE love it. I am currently trying to sell 4 sets: -Ewok Village - Mines of Moria - Unexpected Gathering - Attack of Shelob But for the life of me, I can't move them selling online. I am even selling them, on avg. $100 less than retailers here, yes Legos are very expensive here. But nothing, nada. I'm frustrated because I'm not sure what else can be done. I can see online sales are very healthy on Ebay, unfortunately I don't have the luxury to sell to my audience on Ebay. Any advice would be great, because at this point, even if I move these products the profits won't be that am…

Yeah, you know the rest. When I read the story of the BPer here who opened up a box of puzzle pieces instead of LEGO I thoroughly enjoyed freaking out and waving my arms around and generally joining the discussion. I really didn't ever expect, though, that I'd have my own story to tell! Bought a Daily Bugle on clearance at a local Kmart a few weeks ago. Got to parting out our pile of Daily Bugles tonight, opened this one and... yeah, LEGO bags containing a lot of random junk toys. Some of them are actually either reglued or heat sealed. Pretty amazing, going to return it tommorow. In my defense, when you see the photo of the seal, it doesn't look o…

  22. Just for fun discussions, if all BPers pooled in their inventory and resources and form 1 giant corporation... how much control can we have in the secondary market? Assuming we all continue to source for the deals and grown this corporations. Discuss away what other visions/dreams/ideas you may have if we all become one

Hey folks, Just thought I'd share a small milestone with everybody and let everyone know that I just purchased my 50th set. I started this back in January of 2014 and I've enjoyed every moment of it. Thought I'd share my inventory with you in order of what I first purchased so you can see my strategy/progression, some of the rookie mistakes I have made, possible feedback from all of you, and so the people that are even greener than me can learn from. The only set I've purchased full price is the Architecture Studio. The others I've been able to get for between 30-40% off. Here they are: 70808-1: Super Cycle Chase 4 10225-1: R2-D2 …

For sets that you might sell Used, do you keep the numbered plastic bags? Would it add to the value?

I have a couple of star wars sets that are predominately white and I am afraid that they will begin to yellow. Especially the imperial shuttle. Should I stop displaying them and put them back in their boxes? What does everyone else do with their white sets?
