  4. What is a paypal eCheck and why are they used? Paypal eChecks are used when the buyer doesn't have a a credit card or alternate funding source attached to their PayPal account. An eCheck works like a normal paper check. When the buyer sends payment the funds are transferred from the buyers bank account into the sellers paypal account. Paypal says you should expect the echeck to clear in 3-4 working days. The funds are not available to the seller until cleared. A echeck is just like writing a paper check and has to wait til it clears. Now this is still a problem with first time sellers and even sellers who been selling for a number a years. The Problem is alot of Bu…

I've been attending the BrickCon Public Expo in Seattle for years, but had never displayed my models before or participated in the longer 4-day Private Convention. I just completed an in-depth write-up that goes "behind the scenes" at one of the largest and oldest LEGO conventions for AFOL's. Some of my highlights: Seeing large LEGO models get re-assembled was really interesting. I loved playing the LEGO games like the "Blind Build" shown here. Displaying my models for the first time to the Public was really cool. As always, there were impressive new models on display at the Public Exhibition. LINK TO LONGER ARTICLE AND MO…

So the other day like many people I went to the Lego Store to pick up a 4x4 truck exclusive. Ended up buying 2. No hot dog stand left unfortunately but decided to get a Friends polybag just for the free ice cream stand haha. Staff was unprepared for some reason and thought the free polybag was some kind of cup cake display...really small so I decided to put back the polybag, don't really want/need it. There was a lady in the store too with 2 young daughters and she kinda freaked out saying that's the only reason why she came in today is for the ice cream stand Guess I could understand...driving here, parking, kids are let down etc. One of the rep was ca…

I saw this machine on Youtube and I thought it was pretty sweet. It takes awhile to make a simple Mindstorm program much less do this and build the whole machine. Amazing in so many ways and it even shoots the paper airplane at the end. Link. What do guys/gals think?

So, it's my birthday coming up next month, and I've decided I'd love to get one of the modular buildings from my nearest and dearest - it'll be my first purchase in this range, and to be clear - I am going to build the living daylights out of it! At this stage, it's an absolute toss up between any of the sets currently listed on LEGO Shop at Home... I think they all look amazing so I'm turning to my fellow BrickPickers for some advice! Hit me with your finest - which set should I get to celebrate/commiserate adding another year to those I've already accumulated on this crazy planet?!

  11. We have just launched our first Kickstarter project! We are raising money to make a DVD with builder interviews and creations from Brickworld Chicago. Some of the rewards include custom builds from Tyler Clites and an episode of Beyond the Brick recorded with a builder of your choice. You can check out the project here: http://goo.gl/3jsoM I thought I would share this with the Brickpicker community just to make you all aware of it. Thanks, Joshua

  13. I get a lot of emails about discounts for non Lego related items. Most I ignore, but I think some people may like this. This is a huge Harry Potter Boxset. Blueray with Ultraviolet and 3D, etc, etc. Its very nice and usually retailed for more than double this offer. It is a UK deal, so I am not sure if they ship to the US or not. I see it on Amazon for much higher prices. So if anyone is interested. Harry Potter: Wizard's Collection Box Set (31 Discs) (with UltraViolet)

Thought I would try the board with a problem I am having with the new Bioshock game. I finally got around to getting this game and installed it. The game require steam so I had to go through the process of installing that too. Long story short, I go to run the game, the intro boots up with the 2k logo and just freezes. It runs for about 3 seconds before the game just stops. I get no errors just a frozen screen. My specs for my pc (which I upgraded to play this game) are: amd hd 7800 i5-3750 16gb ram win7 64 bit Does anyone have any ideas on how to go about trouble shooting this? I am going to update my latest graphics card driver but that most lik…

Okay crew, my b-day is coming up, and I have given my wife the following ideas for my gift: Palace Cinema Haunted House Robie House She threw her hands in the air and said I need to pick one out. I was secretly hoping she would make this selection 'cause I haven't been able to figure out which I want but, alas it's up to me. I will be building/displaying this set, so give me some help - which would you pick? If you have a different "building" type set that you really love, I am happy to consider this too.

So other than person-specific birthday threads I couldn't find anything, so I thought I'd start one up so we can wish fellow members a happy date of birth and hear about what sets (or non-lego items?) they got. To start things off, yesterday was Stephen Rockefeller's birthday! Happy B-Day man!

...hello everyone... I need your help/opinion in deciding whether I should buy this latest publication in the UK, The Block Magazine. My dilemma is that I live in the US. My cost is BP 12.99 (includes shipping) which translates to US$22.08 - Quite steep for a magazine but considering it's Issue #1... I don't want to kick myself in the butt later on when the publisher decides to sell here in the US for a lower price but at the same token, would not like to miss out if they don't and Issue 1 sells out... Your input is greatly appreciated...

This is on an unrelated note, but there was a bombing at the Boston Marathon. 2 dead, over 50 injured. My Cross Country and Track and Field coach was running it. Thank God he came out in one piece. http://www.nytimes.com/2013/04/16/us/explosions-reported-at-site-of-boston-marathon.html?pagewanted=all&_r=0 Didn't actually realize the bombing until I received an email from my coach that he was all right. Any Bostoners? All of these bombings and school killings within the United States makes me sad...Not trying to put it lightly, but it's hard to talk about the taking of human life. http://www.reuters.com/article/2013/04/15/us-athletics-marathon-boston-bla…

  22. Long story short, I've bought about 75lbs of loose mixed LEGO from a local thrift. I've began sorting out the minifigs and any unique pieces and bricks so I can discern what sets may be in there but it is slow going. I also purchased a box from the same thrift last fall that appears to be a complete Hogwart's with a couple smaller sets mixed in. So far I have found: -Tie Fighter canopy -red "cow catcher" from a train -couple large flat wall mount skulls -the front and rear of a orange/ white jet liner -three small row boats -snap together tank like tracks My question: is it worth it to pull a full set out and sell it or better to sell the whole thing as a …

Hello, Got this box in a recent tru order that arrived mostly destroyed. 2 9398's one busted up pretty good, 1 funhouse that looked like someone chopped it in half with a machete, 1 batwing (should have been another funhouse) with a huge whole in the box. Saw this and initially thought they sent a 42009 but then pulled back the top and it was a 9398. Any opinions on value for this or lack of value? Sorry that pics are upside down... Thanks!

I am a Boy Scout in my local troop and every year my troop sells popcorn to support all the different activities that we do all year. So today I received all the information I needed to start selling popcorn. As I was looking through it, one thing caught my eye. This year, one of the prizes for selling popcorn is the Lego Star Wars 7964 Republic Frigate. I was very shocked. How can they give this out as a prize if the set is retired. That is something I am questioning. Anyway, to get this prize, you must sell at least $3,500 in popcorn. I have seen Lego sets being given out as prizes before, but they were some of the small sets worth $10. Now, they are giving a bigger pri…
