General Buying & Selling

Overall discussion on the buying and selling of LEGO

  1. So my wife found a dream house she just has to have (who am I kidding, I love it too). In order to make it work in short order I need to raise some extra capital really quick. I just updated my Brickfolio to check the current values on the collection and need to make a decision on the best way to liquidate the inventory. So basically I need to turn sealed sets into cash in less than 30 days. How would you do it? Some basics: Current inventory is valued at $55,000 All of the sets are sealed. (We sell some sealed sets on Amazon now and have a small BrickLink parts business on the side) The sets run the gamut from battle packs up to Modulars. (We were b…

So I just received an email. Super confused. I went listed Mega Bloks 97015 Seraph Covenant and Mega Bloks 91729 UNSC Pelican Gunship along with a Lego Polybag Winzar's. 3. Started by Phil B,

After reluctantly buying my very first Nexo Knights set (Christmas present for my son who seems to be into it), I figured others might have "Shame" purchases that they might want to fess up to. Sort of the AA thread of BP. Not to be confused with the "Buyers Remorse" thread - these are purchases you willingly made for "good" purposes. Anyways, my name is Phil B. and I purchased a 70321 General Magmar's Siege Machine of Doom from Jet.com today. The good news - I got it at 51% off using the EXTRA20 coupon after bundling it with a smaller set for my BL store.

  4. I'm going to be selling off a few of my sets. I'm looking for advice on shipping. Particularly, what is the most cost effective way to ship without damaging the product. Also how much to charge I looked at priority mail flat rate boxes but they seem sort of expensive. I see people charging 6 bucks for items that would fit in a $12 priority flat rate box. Also, does anyone have more specific advice for different sizes of sets? My thinking is that I need to have 5 different size boxes and shipping rates calculated based approximately on pcs - i.e. the 100 pc, 200, 400, 600, and 800 pc sets. I don't have anything larger than that yet. For simpli…

Hi Brickpickers! Imagine this. You find a perfect mint box of your favourite Lego item at your local store. You carefully pick it up like a rare Velociraptor toe fossil in an archaeological dig, and very, very carefully place it in your shopping cart. You get to the counter to pay, and the clerk (obviously not a Lego collector) haphazardly rings it up and bangs a corner or scratches the box on the edge of the counter and shoves it in the bag. Do you gasp? Do you not care? Thoughts, please! Personally I gasp!

  6. I have a Dymo LabelWriter 4XL I recently bought in a #treatyoself moment. I am now ready to punt it through my office window, as I can't get it to stop from printing a billion labels every time I print from Amazon. Has anyone else had this issue? Frustrating thing is I have followed the support steps, read the forums, set up my printer preferences, etc, and for a few times it worked perfectly. It also works correctly when printing from eBay. But the last couple of times on Amazon it will just keep printing labels endlessly. I think it might be a Java issue related to how it is spooling to print. Anyone have any ideas? Yes, I have searched online and read…

  7. Started by Pseudoty,

I have heard of buying sets with no minifigs in them but when I got home from Target and opened this set it had a black trash bag, a hardback novel and a bunch of cardboard puzzle pieces in it. The thing is the box was MINT and all four seals were perfect and intact. Is that something particular to this set? I feel pretty stupid as I had no cart and held the box in my hand and didn't even realize it. Well I had the Z 95 headhunter and an arch set all stacked up all taken to customer service for an ipad PM with target online.

  8. Do you guys ever know you have something, but when you look for it you can't find it? I know pretty much everyone has experienced this. I'm starting to sift through inventory for listing stuff this holiday season. I've went through what I thought was my entire inventory 3 times and I can't find a Ninjago Destiny's Bounty that I know I have somewhere. I've searched for it for over 2 hours and my searching has pretty much negated any profit that I'll ever see even if I do find it. I have a bad habit of putting stuff in boxes and totes and I have to open all of them when searching. Oh well, it will be a nice surprise maybe someday in the future.

  9. What is your answer when in the post office ask about what is in the box? Im a little curious about the answer you can give me!!! In my first sell i answer ( its a lego set) but i want to know if its fine to say that? What did you say? Sent from my iPhone using Brickpicker

  10. Good morning, I am new to this site and I am looking for some advice. I have a very large collection of Legos that I am slowly moving out of storage and would like to sell them in bulk. Growing up I had a double deck lego city 16" x 16" up top and 20" x 16" below, entire city was built on roadplates and baseplates - bottom city had multiple trains. Rough Guess is around 500-700 pounds AT LEAST, right now I have (15) Blue Lego Bins full with legos, and then (12) 30 Gallon tubs filled with legos. . Most of the sets are from 1985-2000 and 95% have at least one copy of the instruction manual. I had sets from every genre, and when I was able I would buy the entire catal…

  11. Started by Rich B,

As many of you know there were some great deals last Thursday aka "Epic Thursday" on both Amazon and Walmart online. Well the first part of my order from Walmart online came in this morning (an SSD) so I went to my local Walmart to pick it up, and I saw exactly what I didn't want to see, an SSD box with creases and one broken seal. I literally picked it up from the online order counter and walked straight over to customer service and returned it. When I got over to the customer service counter there was a guy in front of me returning 2 SSD's for the same resason (boxes in horrible shape). Also it didn't with the outer cardboard Lego box, shouldn't it come in this box?…

Around the end of yesterday on my way home, I perchance spotting a big "STORE CLOSING" banner on the side of my Kmart. Dang it. I know I barely went there much at all but I was actually looking forward on trying to catch next year's clearance sales and the next nearest one is a good half hour away from where I typically shop (assuming that one is not also being closed). I am not surprised about the closure honestly but it still is a little disappointing. Anyway, I went in and sure enough there were signs everwhere stating "Store Closeout Sale, All Sales Final" and a few with "10%-30% of lowest sticker price". It wasn't half off which I would think a store needing to l…

Hey guys. So tomorrow (5/20/13) I'll be making my first major Lego run. I live in NJ and close to NYC so the stores around me do not have any crazy clearance sales ever. The county I live in however has Blue Laws in effect, which means stores are not open on Sundays. This is nice because the circulars and sales are posted on Sundays but nobody can shop until Monday. It gives me time to really check for good sales. Anyway, I've got between $500 and $700 to spend. I'll be trying to get some MF sets as well as some LOTR sets. Many of the stores have discounted SW sets (A-wing being the most prominent; 28% off) this week. Should I pick up some SW sets like this? Also, wha…

  14. we have a retiring soon speculation thread, the actual retiring thread, but there is no "why won't this set die!!!" thread I have 4 girls, so started early foolish time investing with the Friends line. can I include the entire friends line as well as the princess stuff ( see DC and Cindy castle)? I still see series 3 mixels and series 12 minifigures everywhere the minecraft microworlds I thought would die last xmas, but the forest and end keep their never ending supply going. besides the usual suspects (TB and DS) what haunts you?

  15. Started by Alcarin,

Ok lets make a European discussion thread about all important stuff for Europe LEGO investing. I am sure there are many similarities to US investing, and entering is the same, but how do Europe investors/AFOLs get their sets. Do you mostly use Amazon.uk.com? Do you use Ebay... How do you prepare to ''fight'' US competition with such discounted prices... I have a good idea for Jeff and Ed, when/if they look this thread. It would be neat, if we could get option for Brickfolio to be set in Europe, and our price points and retail numbers would be 25% higher than US. Would not skew graphs that badly. Because now it seems even with Discount of 20% I end up seeing a…

  16. After quite a few retirements over the last month or so, I was just interested to see what recently retired sets you guys would still buy at RRP? I was in TRU the other day and they had a few JW sets sitting at the back of the shelf, so I purchased for a quick turn around. I was also in John Lewis and did the same with a Mystery mansion. I had my quota for both but it was an easy opportunity to make a few extra quid. Maze seems another obvious choice but yet to stumble across any more of those. Architecture sets are performing OK if purchased at the right price, as is Wall-e, JW and SD range but would you still buy at RRP if you stumbled across any of them?

Hi everyone I'm new to all this so would appreciate some assistance please. I am am getting into Lego through buying bulk and separating out any sets based on instructions included in the sale. I am no doubt going to have some left over to create an inventory with. My question is how can I identify if I have any sets, or at least partial sets, from the bricks in my inventory? Along the same lines I've seen what seems to be quite a cheap bulk lot based on the per kilo price but there are no instructions included. Part of the description says there are Harry Potter, Indiana jones and a few other themes in there but how can I find out what sets there…

  18. My Lego orders from LEGO Shop at Home Canada are delivered by FedEx and more often than not the shipping boxes are banged up on a corner or squished at one end, etc. Anyone else have this problem? It's so bad you almost have to just laugh about it! I don't have problems with any other shippers that I use from other stores, so not sure how to change it. It would be really nice if other shipping options/other shippers were available on LEGO Shop at Home. I'm reluctant to report or complain to Lego because I don't want to get anybody in trouble, but how else can it be changed?!

$200 for a 20lbs lot. Has 3 large grey base plates as well, Briefly went through the lot and seen about 30 mini-figs. Didn't have any boxes or much manuals. OK I think I've overpaid for this, but at the time i thought it was a good deal and besides the kid wanted to sell his Lego to buy an Xbox. Will post some pics once I get it sorted somewhat.

  20. Tomorrow marks the grand opening weekend at Westfield San Francisco. I'm a bit reluctant on the huge crowds that will be there between the kids and the AFOLs to get the cool promos. But will try to get there as early as possible. Friday - The backpack - Kind of cool. Will probably give it to my son when he gets old enough. Saturday - The mini retail store - That will be the hot promo. Extremely rare and in a limited number. I hope I can get one. It has a huge amount of collectibility/coolness. Sunday - Mini figs - Not as high on my list, but if I'm in the area, I may check them out. 10 a.m. tomorrow morning starts an interesting weekend.

  23. Started by RogerWilco,

I'm wondering what is considered acceptable from the standpoint of the used condition of bricks in a built set. I am currently piecing together some sets from a massive CL haul. I am discarding any broken, discolored, or gouged/dented/deeply scratched pieces, but almost all have numerous hairline scratches on them that can be seen when looking at them at a certain angle with decent lighting. For the modulars I'm building, I'm thinking about just pick-a-bricking a ton of 2x2 and 1x2 tiles, since these seem to be the most noticeable (on the sidewalk areas, mostly). I realize that even brand new sets can have these scratches, just from being in the bags, so I'm wonderi…

  24. I wasn't doing this last year, and I thought this would be a good thing for everyone to know as well. When should we start cruising around for after Christmas Clearance? Walmart, Kmart, Target, TRU, Meijer - etc. Just give your experiences. One walmart already had mark downs that I went to, but haven't seen anything else.

I found Vampyre Castle 9468 for $84.99 with free shipping. I'm on the fence about buying it right now. Is this worth it as an investment? Let me know your thoughts.
