Really Non LEGO Stuff

Whether LEGO related or just anything fun and interesting, talk about it here.

  1. Sooo, this new Masters of the Universe, I heard it's pretty messed up.

  2. Started by Alpinemaps,

I've been on a Trek kick lately, currently watching Lower Decks Season 2. I'm pretty pumped about the teaser/casting announcement sizzle reel for Star Trek: Strange New Worlds

Thought this deserved its own thread so doesn't clog up other ones. USA Basketball lost once again, this time to France. Will be interesting to see how they turn this around. Too many people making excuses for the team when they really be playing better, seems to me that: 1. Team selection was based on a "shooting" team, as they expected to just 3 pointer the opposition to death, this obviously hasn't been working. 2. People saying that US aren't playing there best players, but that's up for players to choose to play for the team. Too many just want to play for NBA and don't care about Olympics. 3. No excuse for team chemistry, as players once again ch…

  9. What's everybody's experience building brick sets from non-LEGO brands like Cobi, MEGA, Xingbao, Wange, QMan, Sembo and so forth? Do you think there's good/any investment potential in these alternative brands' sets? MEGA and Cobi have (already proven) potential for sure, but what those Chinese manufacturers? Another point I'd like to address and hear your thoughts about here: In Germany there's this company called Blue Brixx, whose progression and altercations with TLG I've been following very closely over the last months, mainly due to its "David vs Goliath" appeal. They are pretty serious not only about distributing alternative brands (now even being THE off…

I bought my '06 4Runner new. It has 103k miles on it and still runs very well. It gets @22 mpg on my Lego hunts. I miss sub $2 gas.

  11. Started by Mark Twain,

In this time of lockdowns, contested elections, and general uncertainly, an annual question looms large — how you gonna brine and cook that bird? Bonus points will be given for using “spatchcock” creatively in a sentence. Be forewarned that any mention of a frankenbird, be it a turducken or any such monster, will cause certain members (myself included) to simultaneously vomit and achieve full release.

  12. This is the virtual tour that people are talking about online of a reseller's hose. It's a frightening maze. I've gotten lost a dozen times. It's an epic walkthrough . . . part nightmare, part survival horror. https://3d-marketing.captur3d.io/view/keller-williams-louisville-east/8800-blue-lick-rd

  13. Sorry this isn't lego related, so I'll try to be brief, but I'm not sure where else to turn for advice. My friend's dad just passed away and my friend inherited 30+ containers full of unopened model trains, tracks and accessories. I'm guessing over $10,000 retail worth of train stuff. But trains aren't as popular as lego, so does anybody have any advice how we could unload this huge lot, other than parting it out and selling it on ebay and craigslist? I already looked on facebook and couldn't find any train groups here in houston, and there's only one local train collector hobby shop.... thanks in advance guys!

  15. My $0.02: This is a widely-discussed topic in my face-to-face friendships. I tutored math (Algebra 1 thru Fininte Problems) for 8 years while I was a HS, Undergrad & Masters student. This experience left me with 2 firm conclusions: #1 Long-term, consistent, incremental, and monitored tutoring is a slam dunk... but all 4 factors must be in place. "Smart" is not a requisite. #2 The "best practices" (in my experience only) I discovered over those yrs suggested that I should not try being father and tutor simultaneously given the dynamics of each job. We use Kumon, but it's not best of breed... it's just easy and inexpensive. I support t…

  17. Hey NY Giant fans, Dave Gettleman is 100% getting kicked off his internet connection during the NFL draft when his wife or kids try to use the landline phone in the next room. Eagles fan here. Hope Howie doesn’t F it up again.

Thought I'd kick off a new discussion, as I'm looking for new things to read. My suggestion: "On Fire" by John O'Leary. A true story about a young boy who builds a new life after a devastating fire. I found this to be very inspirational, and good read for dark times. Take away: Our personalities are forged by the challenges we face. How we respond to those challenges defines who we are. Build on that, to make your life great no matter the circumstances. What's on your list?

I know this is not really Lego related at all, but I am in Suzhou, China right now for work. I've never been here before and will be here until the 22nd. Already checked out the Lego store, interesting to see their offerings, nothing was different! But they still had some SW BHz's, (Lots of Princess Leia) Anyways, i'll have the weekend open and was wondering if anyone might have any suggestions on things to do. I know it's a long shot but thought I would ask. It's a very interesting city, already tried some Durian. Really nice people all around and it is interesting to get a Chinese nationals perspective on things happening around the world. It really has chang…

Anyone interested in joining a Brick Picker Fantasy basketball 2019 at Yahoo? We are looking to create a Head-to-Head - Points with $40 entry. 10 or 12 team MAX.

  21. So if Marvel can be seen as taking the "High Road"...it looks like DC is taking... the "low" and by "low" I mean grittier, sexier, and basically the R-rated route: I applauds DC for flipping the conversation on super hero movies (clue...it's always been about the villians) Anyway...it's a LEGO club so...what's the over on the HQ mf in Apocalspburg? https://www.vulture.com/2019/10/birds-of-prey-trailer-margot-robbie.html "Woooooh!...Who's having a good time!"
