General Buying & Selling

Overall discussion on the buying and selling of LEGO

  1. Started by thebrickdad,

Anyone else planning to be at the opening of the new Leicester Square shop tomorrow? Doors open at 12:00 Possibly even try for a meet-up after people have grabbed the things they came for just to see who managed to get the Lester minifig rather than a parrot..

yay or nay? They are "sponsored" links on Ebay for most lego searches. I had a $1200 order ready to click---they are verified paypal---but that doesn't mean much I found out. The phone number is no good...so I am going to pass. But if anyone else wants to risk it--let us know, Website has been live for 5 years--so it's not fly by night, and they are a paying advertiser on ebay. and their business account is linked to the correct paypal address.....so who know. I am going to pass---but man--this is really tempting.

Curious how in-store stocks are holding up since it seems that many online sources are drying up -- good for resellers and any of us LLQF's LEGO SAH makes it easy to breakdown by price and what's in stock (once you eliminate the items that are not buildable sets -- i.e. STEM kits, EV3 modules, etc... that still show in the list even though you specify "Sets" in the filter). Here's their status (US market) as I measured: Price Range, Sets Available, As a Percent >$100: 18, 23% $75 to $100: 13, 19% $50 to $75: 17, 26% $25 to $50: 27% (stopped screening buildable sets, and just divided available into avail+sold out+backordered) <…

  4. So I have been looking for a list of stores that sell LEGO sets. Amazon.com - % 3 Target.com - XX 4. TRU.com - % 5 Shopko.com - ? 6. Sears.com - ? 7. Walmart.com - XX 8 Entertainmentearth.com - ** 9. westendtoys.com - ** 10. kmart.com - XX 11. I have decided to dabble in selling Lego. I've decided that I will do exclusively sealed box sets and may part out a minifig or two if I feel like it could do well, and then sell the rest of the set. My question is, for what I want to do is eBay or bricklink better? I have looked into both and can't decide. eBay has the advantage of having a larger customer base and easier shipping while Bricklink charges much smaller fees and has a smaller but more dedicated buyer list. Advice? If eBay is the winner should I try to stick with auction or a buy it now? Last question-How do I determine the shipping cost? This wouldn't be as much of a problem on Bricklink since I w…

Hello, digging for more information to reaffirm and add a little to what I saw in an older thread. So I bought a used Grand Emporium from a guy today and the thing was covered in a couple years worth of dust and dirt. No instructions or box. It was completely built though and I compared it to mine and the thing appeared 100% complete. I wanted to clean it so I submerged it in water and started pulling the bricks apart. It was way easier in my head to pull the whole set apart than reality, lol. I got tired of trying to pull apart every little piece so I now I have a mess of top two floors looking like a bomb exploded with the base level sort of there and intact. For …

  7. Wow...Someone in Houston is offloading their collection....I'm guessing this has got to be someone on here. This person bought sets recently enough to get 4 Jor-El minifigs, now they are selling it all... http://austin.craigslist.org/tag/3923230407.html

And this is pretty obvious to those who have been out and about quite a bit the last few weeks, but the holidays have really cleared out a lot of the stragglers in the Lego aisle. There used to be remnants of Atlantis, Alien Invasion, PotC, '11/'12 Creator, Harry Potter, etc. left in the Walmarts, Targets, and TRUs of the world, but the holidays have pretty much cleared all that out. Those last sets you were trying to pick up cheap when they went on sale are pretty much all gone. I was even at my local Barnes and Noble yesterday looking for a book and the Lego was pretty much cleared out there as well. 2 weeks ago, they were stuffed with it. Bottom line, if you …

Hi All, Been a lurker here for awhile, but signed up to participate as I have a question. I have a variety of sets that I've been selling online through the usual channels, Ebay, Amazon, etc., and read about West End Toys as an option to take everything off my hands and handle the sale and fulfillment directly, but I've heard some comments through the grapevine that the company has some issues. Not sure if these are financial problems, management problems or just bad communication as I wasn't given much in the way of specifics, but figured the community here is the best place to ask since I'm sure there are some West End Toys vendors here who have sold through them. …

I've seen a few people say that shipping a bigger LEGO set via UPS is cheaper than USPS. But whenever I compare prices, USPS is always cheaper. What am I missing? Are people getting UPS discounts somehow?

  11. So I here people mention this a lot and I totally understand - 1. Frustrated with Idiot buyers 2. TIred of going to the post office everyday. 3. Want to smash your tape dispenser 4. Done with printing labels and paying stupid USPS inflated prices. 5. Done with USPS losing packages And more and more. So I thought I would share what is helping me through this on the off chance it might help someone else. I am a candid guy - probably too open sometimes - but in January I was really really struggling with this. December burned me out some and made me realize that I was frustrating myself to much. This was complicated by the fact that …

Hi everyone! Hope you all had a great Christmas. I was just curious to hear how much legos everyone sold this Christmas. As for myself, I didn't start my listings on ebay until Dec.2...believe it or not, from Dec. 2- 25, I sold over 40k! I maxed out my account, and had to start using my girlfriend's account. Ebay gave her an increase on what she can sell per month, from 25k to 75k, because they noticed her selling so much. lol I sold mostly harry potter, friends, excavators, fire brigades.. The reason for me selling so much this month, is because I'm raising money to bet on a UFC fight on Dec.28 (Chris Weidman) I'm about 95% sure Chris will win the fight. Out o…

Are Lego sets just in general worth more money when they are put together or are the worth more when there taken apart and in bags?

Not sure where to post this but thought it was interesting. I just went to a couple of my local shopkos to pick up some 40% off Airport Terminals and I saw these stickers at one of them plastered all over the Friends sets and a few Star Wars sets...

Just picked up a deal on 5 x 7345's at 22.50 a piece. The deal itself wasn't so good but they let me turn them in for store credit at the local lego shop, which is a pretty rare thing i guess. They are selling for 35 bucks a pop at the lego store and thats what they gave me in store credit. Question is what to buy with the credit ?? What would be a really good investment ?? I was drooling over that death star they had there lol. I was talking with the manager and i guess when lego discontinues sets they actually lower the price on them. I guess they're cracking down on resellers and investors and you can only buy 5 discontinued items at a time. The manager was really s…

  16. So I know there are other threads floating around about this, but I was curious to get a current pulse check. My gf recently has been showing me the power of Microsoft Access and has built an internal database for her lab. The thing is incredibly powerful and I immediately wondered how well it would work with my lego inventory / collection. Cons of Access for me are 1) having to purchase Office Business and 2) not having a PC so either a) running windows on my mac or b) finding a cheap PC to start this on. My hesitancy is, that is a lot of financial and time investment though on a gamble with access. I currently use Excel to track a lot. I have personal co…

Apparently, 16 states, 2 climate organizations, and the UAW are suing USPS to stop it from getting new delivery trucks. https://autos.yahoo.com/usps-sued-states-climate-orgs-160700437.html?.tsrc=daily_mail&uh_test=2_15 Everyone can argue about the environmental impacts, but all I see is higher costs of shipping going forward

  18. So I ordered the new mini and the fedex tracking shows it was delivered yesterday. Says left at front door sig not required. I have not contacted lego or fedex yet. If it was stolen off my porch I don't think they are liable anyways. I can dispute the charge on my cc but that could get me banned from LEGO Shop at Home. Anyone dealt with this before? I have had dozens of legos shipped to the house. Seems unlikely that one small box got stolen but I guess it's possible. I live in a nice area in North Raleigh. If it was stolen do I have any options? I'll have everything shipped to my office from now on.

Hey everyone, I tend to build and hoard Lego more than I sell it. This past year is probably the most I've ever sold Lego on Ebay, probably around $1,000 in total sales, which may not seem like much to some of you, but again I am an AFOL that loves to build and collect, and I don't get around to selling much. That being said I've never paid taxes on Lego sales, but in previous years I've sold around a couple hundred dollars in Lego at most. I feel I need to pay taxes this year though. How do I go about it? Do most people out there pay a sales tax on Lego sales? And roughly how much does it cut into profits? Anyone out there have info and experience with this?

  20. Hey all, I'm not sure if this is the proper place to post this, and my apologies if this has been covered before. As stated before, I am recently back from the dark ages. I have 3 young kids (2-5) and I'm looking for some bulk stuff to let them (and myself ) use their imagination for builds without having to break up/mix up sets. I'm looking at some local CL type of stuff, but I really don't have much of an idea of what to look for or how to determine what is a good deal and what isn't. For example, there is a listing locally here for ~12 grocery bags of Lego. Seller says it is made up of City and Town stuff (specifically stated there is no Star Wars). They a…

Hi Guys Been collecting for several years now , think 2014 I started and wondering if there is a market for bulk buying? so my brickfollio says its value is $86k but I bet I have another 20k or more to add to that as I stopped adding to my brickfollio about 3 years ago, my fault I just got caught up with work and other things and lost track. I have a pretty diverse collection and of course some turkeys too like Tumblers and what not. I understand whoever buys it would be looking to resell it but wonder what sort of price I might get or if I should try sell it individually eBay/Amazon which was my original idea...ahh great plans :-). Not in a major hurry to ge…

There has been a lot of talk about this particular issue. Heck, there was even an article for it. However, it has been explained before that actual 'Drop Shipping' is a legimate practice used by companies such as Wal-Mart and Amazon when you order something online. It is only when you have individuals using stolen credit cards things get illegal. I have read complaints from some members about using the term 'drop shipper' for these illegal practices when the truth is actual 'drop shipping' is legal. So I am proposing that we put our heads together and come up with a name that befits the crooks that use the legal practice of 'drop shipping' for their own illegal purpo…
