Grabbed this random lot on Mercari a few months ago because it had a few large Fantasy Castle trolls in it. Finally opened it up this weekend.

Ended up being at least 99% complete 7097 Troll's Mountain Fortress. 2 year old ran off with the horse

Nice, the two troll big figs already cover the cost of the set. One thing I really dislike about the old sets is that the colors on the paper/pdf manuals are damn hard to read.

Wow....is that a tape player?!?

LMAO! Yes, that is an old Realistic receiver purchased from Radio Shack in the early 80's for around $120.  It replaced an aging Scott tube amp from the 50's, my dad's I am not that old, that if I kept and restored would be worth thousands of dollars. Although vintage audio is in that is not why I am using it and I haven't tried the tape deck.  I use it for the "MONO" switch for when I play my mono records as my current Marantz amplifier does not have mono capabilities. It really brings the albums to life and you get that "in your room sound". Plus the market for these records is amazing:

The kids and I finished up the 7163 Republic Gunship.  Another fun build...I like all of the Gunship builds so I am excited about the UCS version that is soon to be released.  This was another build from our FM Marketplace haul...Next up: The Death Star 2 10143 and UCS Star Destroyer 10030.

10030.

Ugh.

So much repetition. So much grebbling. SO. MUCH. GREBBLING.

After building that set I discovered I just can’t get into 3000+ sets. Just too much work.

feel you.  We are on month 8 of the UCS MILF.  Once we hit greebling progress hit slower than snail's pace (made 1000x worse being a used set)

I built this Stranger Things set over the past few evenings. I enjoyed building the first half but the second half was a little repetitive (obviously!). The finished set looks great though.

Mine kept following apart. Ended up returning it. Ugh.

Ugh, that sucks. Yeah it is definitely fragile and the roof keeps coming apart. Putting the trees in to hold it all together was also frustrating as a bunch of pieces kept popping off in all directions! Hopefully mine will hold together but it is definitely not sturdy.

Agreed, 10030 was the worst building experience I've ever had. And yes, mine was a used set, so digging through all the light gray to find each piece was even less fun.

Mine was also used. I spent hours sorting those pieces. I had a system of buckets so I had a general idea where everything was as I was building. I became a bit of a machine.

It helped that i inventoried the set beforehand, and had to get some missing parts (maybe 50 or so?). Nothing expensive. Still best return I ever had, buying for $100 (maybe $110 after missing parts) and selling for $900.

I have 10030 waiting to be built in the basement.  I was going to build it after I built Death Star II, but after building that one I was scared away from spending all day staring at another sea of gray.  And now I'm reminded that I haven't fully recovered enough to attempt to build 10030.

You sold a used 10030 for $900?!

This was a few years ago. The height of 10030 being long since retired, and the new one not even a glimmer in LEGO’s eye.

New 10030s were going for twice that.

Someone check me if I’m wrong. But that’s what I remember.

Okay just checked my sheets. My bad - sold for $850 on eBay April 2017. I bought in Feb 2015.
