Hi guys, I've been building up a bit of a modest portfolio lately and I generally follow the rule of "invest in sets you like". The problem with that is a few of my sets over the holidays have been cracked open and built. I'm not at the point yet where I can buy one for me and one for later so my daughters were very happy with me for opening the only Daigon Alley I own :-). good news is it was a lot of fun to build and my daughters have had hours of play time out of it. Maybe I should buy more Ninjago....... Title edited by Ed Mack

OK... at last check, my 7-year-old has over 200 Lego sets in his 12' x 12' bedroom - about 20 or 30 on "display" (let's use the term loosely) and the rest in ziploc bags, boxes, just jumbled about everywhere. Most minifigures have "gone rogue"... they're in the room somewhere, but good luck finding the one you want. They're all less than 3 years old, most still in production. Recently I inventoried them all, and listed eBay "used values" to have some idea where to start in liquidating some of them. But such a huge task... for example... lets say I want to sell the 60025 Grand Prix Truck. I'm sure it will take at least 3 hours of my "free time" (if there is such a th…

This is NOT a complaint. Lord knows I have benefited financially as a result of the info available on this site. Remember when this site included a Lego lot calculator? I used the hell out of that thing. Copy and paste set numbers in, choose new or used, and press go! It was awesome. Anything like it available?

Quick question regarding sorting. I have bins of Legos from when I was younger. I was wondering if I should try to sort them by shape and color or try to make full sets out of them? They're from '95-'01. Nothing super special from what I can recall.

So I'm finding it easier to sell sets like VW Camper and Ecto-1 21108. What other sets in this size range do you reckon are good investments please? Also, I believe Star Wars Battle Packs are good too. Any more advice welcome, thanks.

Developments in first half 2018: • Global consumer sales grew 1% in the six months to June 2018 • Revenue has stabilised and growth is flat while operating profit is up 4 percent in constant exchange rates compared with the same period in 2017. • In DKK terms, revenue was 14.3 billion, a decline of 5 percent compared with 14.9 billion in the first half of 2017. Operating profit declined 4 percent to DKK 4.2 billion. Net profit was DKK 3.0 billion, down 10 percent. Cash flow from operating activities was DKK 4.1 billion, compared with DKK 4.6 billion in 2017. These declines were driven mainly by the weakening of the US Dollar. The LEGO Group today reported earni…

Cant seem to find much on people buying sets in the secondary market for investing (if anyone knows of a forum then please can you point me in its direction). Anyway, what sets are people looking at in the secondary market after they've been retired. I'm still a newbie AFOL on the collecting/investing scene. Looking at what sets I could buy ofr investment purposes but having a hard time considering anything that has already gone up by 50% over the MRSP that's been retired since 2014. That said there are so many I like! LOTR theme and a number of star wars & superheros ones. Anyone got any tips/strategies for investing in the after retirement market. Once a produc…

In addition to THE PLASTIC BRICK, we have added CHOWREN TOYS to our buying options. CHOWREN TOYS have been around since 2001 and I have personally bought many LEGO sets from Jack and Jason Chow. They run a quality LEGO store and as of June 2009 Chowren Toys LLC is now officially a LEGO independent on-line retailer. If they have a set, you will see their banner next to the other buying options in our LEGO SET GUIDE. Just click on their banner and you can check out what kind of deals they have. Thanks....

Just for fun discussions, if all BPers pooled in their inventory and resources and form 1 giant corporation... how much control can we have in the secondary market? Assuming we all continue to source for the deals and grown this corporations. Discuss away what other visions/dreams/ideas you may have if we all become one

Just flew through Nairobi and had several hours to kill there. Was bored as hell so i started browsing the duty free shops. Came across one with Legos and first thing to catch my eye were two Harry Potter purple bus sets...alas when I looked at the price they were 70 bucks each...damn, had to pass. Then saw two whitecap bays...150 bucks each. passed. I guess the people who own the shop feel like they need to mark up sets so much in order to turn a profit. A bunch of old friends sets too but all were in terrible condition. Left very disappointed, thought it was going to be a goldmine for a second when I saw the Harry Potter sets.

I am trying to figure out the best time to begin selling some of my inventory. I have investments in several series that are not projected to be long-term winners: Legends of Chima, Galaxy Squad, Lone Ranger, Monster Fighters, & Ninjago; but I also have investments in some projected winners: Star Wars, City, LOTR/Hobbit, Architecture, Marvel Super Heroes, Friends, and Duplo. For the most part I only buy sets when I can get a 50+% discount (although I have paid closer to retail on some sets I am willing to gambe on: SSD, B-Wing, UCS X-Wing, and considering some GE and or SopwithCamel). For the most part my collection is worth more than I have invested in it righ…

I waited too long for buying and listing Dolphin Cruiser sets on eBay / Bricklink (starting this week). Nevertheless, I can flip just about every older set (Cars, Toy Story, new, old, no box, with box, incomplete) but not a frakin DC. Now Amazon has them back in-stock for $67. Thus, I'm done flipping. Not because it doesn't work (because it does) but it isn't for me. I compare flipping to my past days as a "for pleasure" daily stock trader. I got killed due to my timing. Then when I moved into 1-2 year stock investing, I made nice cash for 4 straight years before rolling that money into Lego instead of buying NFLX at $67/share

Hi Everyone, thebrickfan.com has a great article detailing a new Brick Builders Club. http://www.thebrickfan.com/brick-builders-club-september-box-review I'm posting to see what others think about this membership, the contents of the first kit and if you think that it will be worthwhile going forward. I would like to join but I also just joined loot crate and so trying to decide. Then again I don't want to miss (unless I am too late) the first edition as I am a collector and want to have complete sets of whatever I collect. Let me know what you think. Thanks

We hear quite a bit about box art and I'm just wondering what makes it or breaks it? The most important part of a set is what's inside the box, but there have to be some people who care about the outside as well. In some cases the box art might be the biggest factor in selling a set. One thing I can't stand seeing on the front of a Lego box is that rectangle with text inside that says "WARNING! CHOKING HAZARD...." I get it, of course, but it is still annoying. I love the newer designs coming out...such as the Curiosity Rover, Ecto-1, and Exo Suit. I like the dark backgrounds with less distractions. This thread probably has more to do with collecting tha…

Hi All This is an introduction of sorts although I have been posting for a little while now although I am really looking for some feedback as far as my brickfollio goes and potential investing. I started getting back into Lego middle of last year after rediscovering my mid 80's space sets and rebuilding 26 different models thinking my son 3 years would love to start building them in a year or two. I then started reading about investing and just got pulled in. So far my brickfollio consists of: 5 HH 5 TH 3 GE 1 EEE 6 AA 14 R2D2 1 Tower Bridge 2 Tumblers 10 RI 1 Technics F1 1 City high speed passenger train 5 Delorians Think that's about it,…

Didn’t find a thread on this but for those who display UCS sets, what’s your displays like? Anyone use IKEA Detolf cases? Anyone modified them to fit the UCS sets? Thanks in advance.

Hey everyone, Sort of new to MOC world and my question is really for the collectors who target large MOCs and need to gather a lot of pieces. Simply put, what is the most budget friendly way to go about this? I am targeting a few large Star Wars ships, so a lot of grays and blacks. Do you all primarily use Bricklink? Target sets on heavy discount with the pieces you need? Find used lots on eBay / craigslist? Honestly I put together a wanted list on Bricklink and its pretty expensive, haha almost seems cheaper to buy an existing UCS Star Wars set and just use the pieces from that. Anyways, just curious how other people go about it. 😁

I'm starting to see more AFA graded sets on Ebay now, I'm not sure if I like this possible trend. I use to collect baseball/football cards, and the grading craze seemed to drive down the prices of non graded cards quite a bit. It made collecting less fun for me, as graded cards got too expensive.

Apologies if this was linked elsewhere (I didn't see it) - But a good, somewhat long, read about the LEGO Corporate turnaround - https://www.theguardian.com/lifeandstyle/2017/jun/04/how-lego-clicked-the-super-brand-that-reinvented-itself "Lego’s revival has been called the greatest turnaround in corporate history. A book devoted to the subject, David Robertson’s Brick by Brick: How Lego Rewrote the Rules of Innovation, has become a set business text. Sony, Adidas and Boeing are said to refer to it. Google now uses Lego bricks to help its employees innovate."

I note that we all gather our LEGO essentially from two sources - the walk in shop, or the internet. Usually it is a once-off trade where we pay money and get our one product. But what about the other type of deals? Where we wish to 'trade' or 'swop' two, three, four, or more sets towards another? I could sell two sets and have to list them both seperately, having to monitor both and then making the trip twice to the post office. Why can't I move two or more sets in one go to a fellow investor or collector who also has something to exchange in the deal? Does such a site exist? If they do, can they deliver what the LEGO investor really needs? I've trawled the internet a…
