General Buying & Selling

Overall discussion on the buying and selling of LEGO

  1. I was in Barnes and Noble today to look at their inventory after somebody mentioned they hold on to older sets longer and I was amazed at the amount of older sets they had in stock. Granted, all of it was garbage from an investment standpoint. They had the following from Pharaoh's Quest 9 boxes of Scorpion Pyramid (7327) 4 boxes of Rise of the Sphinx (7326) And they had a lot of Atlantis stuff 3 boxes of City of Atlantis (7985) 2 boxes of Guardian of the Deep (8058) And some stuff from Alien Conquest which is more common 7 boxes of Alien Mothership (7065) 11 boxes of UFO Abduction (7052) All of it was still retail. The thing that really s…

  2. This is probably located somewhere else but I couldn't figure it out on B&****** website or find here. I want to grab a Death Star at my closest B&******. I saw on their site about the kids program and you get 30% off first Toy purchase. I signed up for my online account only, not my kids club thing yet. I heard it entitles you to 10% discount on everything? Is this true? So with the kids club coupon it will be 40% off total for a DS? Sorry if the questions are stupid I don't want to take a ride to B&****** and not get the 40% off. Thanks LD

  4. So this morning I got a very official looking email from paypal using my first and last name. Said my account was limited due to suspicious activity and until I logged in and confirmed my account that it would be frozen. I of course didn't click the link and went directly to Paypal's site. Everything was normal. Now, I consider myself very internet savvy and also take internet security further than most. And this one had me going due to it being very well done and targeted specifically at me. I fear that due to the recent ebay hack this will become pretty common. so here is a heads up to be vigilant and if you receive any paypal phishing emails you can forwar…

  5. Overall I think it has been a pretty successful holiday season for most of us, I have done a lot of flipping and investing. Now that its close enough to Christmas where nobody can "steal" your flipping set ideas for this season I thought it would be fun to list what worked and what didn't. Some that Worked: Lego City Cargo Terminal: With BOGO at target and PM their website I paid about $71.48 with tax Sold for $130ish plus shipping. New Hobbit Sets. Used B&****** Coupons for these during BOGO. These were probably the most profitable. Architecture Sets, Particularly White House. -- I had never bought one of these before a month ago. I got the White House from…

Whelp. I finally summoned the courage to open some mangled best buy sets and the bags are sealed and all there. So that's nice. I ordered 3 31120's medieval castle a while back. They arrived looking like the typical Best Buy ordered. Seals busted, taped to hell, labels everywhere, rips in the box face. So I returned them. I must have hit the wrong button because I only got a refund for 1 set, and then all 3 of them came back to me. So now I have 3 sets for the price of 2 at least. Customer service was no help so I figured I'm stuck with them and put them in a box to deal with later. Long story short. Do not order from best buy. They are completely usel…

I'm just going to get to the point. I respect EVERY Brickpicker on the site. But I want to know if you think the deals that members project are truly accurate. Do you think a deal someone had gotten is put of this world or legitimate? Or is there some embellishment?

I am curious as to where you long-timers think the best place will be the day after Christmas for sales. I live in a small market area with just one Target, two Walmarts, and a crappy low end Toys R Us (and a Kmart that ALWAYS seems to have stuff on clearance or BOGO offers). My Walmarts must have a pretty good sell through rate because I never see anything on clearance in them. Anybody have thoughts or suggestions based on previous experience? Thanks!

  11. People seem to complain about Lego prices all the time. This is especially true in some countries where the prices can get pretty outrageous like Australia. In other countries Lego has very limited availability. I know a lot of people think the U.S. has it best when it comes to Lego due to the cheaper prices on sets and wide availability, but what benefits do other countries have? Are they actually better? For instance in the U.K. they seem to have relatively equal pricing to the U.S. (for the most part, on non-licensed themes..), but then they have the free Lego polybag give away with the news paper. Half a pound for a Lego set that should cost $4? Yes please! Mean…

  12. I found this post by Brickpicker member, John Crumpton, to be very helpful to me and I would like to make more people aware of it. I often find myself reading assorted LEGO blogs and forums and as an American, I often am not familiar with various stores that sell LEGO bricks in the UK and other European countries. I am trying to educate myself on the differences between American stores and various UK and European stores and appreciated the effort John put into his reply. The thread might also be helpful to other Brits who are not familiar with all of the following stores. Thanks John. To other members, please feel free to add some other stores from the UK or other…

  14. I have an 8 year old girl who loves Lego's. Due to the cost of Lego's of it, she usually builds whatever I can get on clearance. Most times the sets aren't really what a little girl likes. I am curious what sets I could buy that once opened I could recover 75% or more of the cost within six months to a year. For example today I bought the friends riding camp for $93 at TRU. Anyone have any advice for a dad looking to provide his daughter with something better than galaxy squad stuff? I clearly don't expect anything to be a sure thing.

I've never parted out a set or sold the figures from a set. I'm just wondering if there are sets out there that members are having success parting out? Thanks in advance for posting!

Hi folks, I've only sold two LEGO sets, but have had a lot of experience selling collectible playing cards (MTG) on eBay. I've found that "buy it now" tends to give the seller more money than an auction listing, if the value is reasonably predictable. I assume the really rare stuff would be better sold as an auction, but I don't have any of that. Anywho, how does Amazon or Bricklink compare to eBay, for the seller? Please include factors like fees and selling tools. Thanks! EDIT: sorry - the poll should be "Bricklink" not "Brickset."

  17. Good morning, I am new to this site and I am looking for some advice. I have a very large collection of Legos that I am slowly moving out of storage and would like to sell them in bulk. Growing up I had a double deck lego city 16" x 16" up top and 20" x 16" below, entire city was built on roadplates and baseplates - bottom city had multiple trains. Rough Guess is around 500-700 pounds AT LEAST, right now I have (15) Blue Lego Bins full with legos, and then (12) 30 Gallon tubs filled with legos. . Most of the sets are from 1985-2000 and 95% have at least one copy of the instruction manual. I had sets from every genre, and when I was able I would buy the entire catal…

Hello, digging for more information to reaffirm and add a little to what I saw in an older thread. So I bought a used Grand Emporium from a guy today and the thing was covered in a couple years worth of dust and dirt. No instructions or box. It was completely built though and I compared it to mine and the thing appeared 100% complete. I wanted to clean it so I submerged it in water and started pulling the bricks apart. It was way easier in my head to pull the whole set apart than reality, lol. I got tired of trying to pull apart every little piece so I now I have a mess of top two floors looking like a bomb exploded with the base level sort of there and intact. For …

I've bought a few lots of unsorted bricks lately, and after picking out a few sets I was looking to get rid of some of them. What's the best way to make the most money with them? Better to sort by color or by type?

Had a question about selling my complete set of Star Wars Ultimate Collector Series. I am not a collector, rather just have enjoyed following lego collecting on line. This interest led to me starting to purchase only NEW Star Wars UCS sets over the years and hanging on to them given my love of star wars and lego - not even sure why! I thought these might be fun for my son and I to build or it was a really fun way to force some savings. I am now ready to sell them all and I am trying to figure out how. Each set is bubble wrapped and boxed in a separate cardboard box - was trying to avoid selling individually given the time to take pics, list, and ship numerous times!!…

Hi I purchased instructions for a custom lego set and now am wanting to sell both the instructions and the set itself. Would it be better to take it all apart and sell the pieces separate on brick link, or sell it all together as a set with the instructions? The instructions are for Brian Coopers Teknomeka mech robot. Also how would I figure out the value for both ways to sell it? Thanks

So I have a ton of mini figs sorted by theme and I was wondering if someone could share some insight as to what they have found is the best way to sell minifigs? I have been selling smaller organized by theme lots on E-Bay but i'm not sure that is the most productive way to sell them. I thought about a BrickLink store but I was wondering how much luck you guys have had selling them individually through B-Link. Any insight would be much appreciated as I have a ton of figs and trying to maximize both my time and return. Also if someon is looking for specific figs feel free to reach out to me as I may have what you are looking for and I'm happy to help out.

I recently got started in collecting Lego items but I need to redirect my effort to something else. During this short period of time, I gathered over 200+ new Lego's (mostly Star Wars, some POTC, Space and City). If I don't want to deal with ebay (high fees) or craigslist (scammer headaches), what would be my other options? Perhaps a Lego reseller? Because of the size of my collection, I would prefer to sell them as one package. Some of my items are: 9498 9489 9440 9491 8084 7929 8083 7741 3365 4436 6911 7914 etc

When it comes to any "collection" I use the rule of 2 or 3. I usually find this is the best way to get rid of a collection. Problem listing it all is usually bigger the lot the less you will make per set. But if you sell it all individuall, the less desirable pieces may not sell. So I like to group them in small groups to ensure everything will get bought, and so I ddon't limit my buyers with a giant lot and don't end up screwed because only one or two people are bidding. I would keep them as sets grouped by theme. Just my 2 cents.

  25. I'll cut to it quickly - I have a Finch Dallow and a NISB Darth Revan that I'm looking to turn into more LEGO. I do all of my selling locally, so I haven't jumped into the online game. My goal is to try to use these two figures towards larger Lord of the Rings or Star Wars sets that are on my wanted list. I could sell these on eBay or something and then turn around and buy LEGO, but I'd rather just do a trade. Is there any market for that, or any good community for it? Is there any chance anybody here is interested? If not, any tips to make sure I don't get screwed when selling online as these are single rare items? Thanks for any help!
