Toys R Us

I am new on this site and to Lego investing. I have recently been buying multiple clearance sets from TRU online and in store. The majority of my orders were cancelled online as a guy phoned me up and explained that they don't let you buy items to sell on. I explained that I was building an army with the figures, but they all got cancelled other than 1. They are also very inquisitive when I buy in store, so am worked they are going to tell me I can't buy any more. How has anyone got around this problem?

Aside from the current buy 2 get 1free promotion they are currently running Which includes most SW sets for once), their prices are garbage! My question is this though, why are only some sets higher than MSRP? It seems they pick and choose which sets to mark up.

I recently went to TRU and saw their prices are ten to fifteen bucks over the list prices, Like the 9495 Gold Leader

Apparently there is a TRU Express/Outlet at a nearby outlet mall. I haven't been up there in a while but don't recall seeing it, maybe it's new? Anyone else have one of these near them? Guessing they won't have Lego, but wondering if others have experience.

Toys R Us announced Wednesday that it would expand its price-match guarantee to include online retailers including Amazon.com, Walmart.com, Target.com and BestBuy.com, among others. The aim, according to the release, "Removing any doubt before holiday shopping begins in earnest that customers are receiving the best available prices." Perhaps this means there won't be any more over MSRP!

Am I the only one who has no idea what a tru receipt means? I don't know if I did well, or took it in the hoop every time I set foot in the place lately. They had series 11 2 for 5. And bogo skylanders at 40% off...and the plush for 5 after spending fitty. I have no idea what I paid for anything. I am assuming I missed out on the mini fig sale...or heard the guy wrong...didn't see a sign...but kid happened by and mentioned they were 2 for 5 so grabbed a couple.

Lets see what happens on this Tru Sale, anybody that has a Toys R Us that has the Exclusives in that store should really check this out. Can't wait to see what the online sale will say.

Picked up a few of the 60098 Heavy Haul Train sets during the 20offlego sale last Friday. Sadly, one of them arrived with tape sealing one end, so I weighed it against the others and noticed it was a little heavy. Luckily, when I opened it up, there was still a complete train set inside... Decided to build it instead of hold it. Not sure someone else would be as thrilled with a blue heavy hauler.

I was in TRU today and was told by one of the higher-ups in the store that TRU will announce this week that they will be closing several stores throughout the country. There will be large markdowns taking place Tue/Wed/Thu evening, and stores have already rec'd tags to markdown merchandise 30/50/70%, although the selection of merchandise marked down, and the % discount will ultimately vary by store, thus deals will be YMMV. With that being said, I don't know what is going to be marked down, as TRU clearance typically has a very poor selection, so it could turn out to be a bunch of crap put on sale. Just went to a local Toys R Us thinking about buying a Vamp Castle for Clearance. Saw that they had the new 2014 Hobbit sets out. And to my surprise, the 217 peice one costed $20! The 700+ piece on costed $69.99 Is this an anomaly or is it that they going forward will price like everyone else?

My wife and I got new "R"Us credit cards in the mail yesterday and while trying to activate them we were told in a recording that the account had been closed. Today I spoke with a 3rd-level employee (the last link in the "I want to speak to your supervisor" chain) at Synchrony Bank, the issuer of "R"Us Credit Cards. I was told that with TRU's bankruptcy and liquidation, Synchrony's client services group is closing and ALL "R"Us credit card either have been or shortly will be closed. Those words were uttered to me today, by the clerk that rang me up at TRU today. She said that LEGO is a "high theft" item, and that they've had too many people buy LEGO at Target (in the same shopping center), and return it to them. So all sales of LEGO are final, and they won't take them back. I asked her if this was new, and she said that it has been their policy for awhile. Now, I'm not so sure of that; I've been buying LEGO at this store for a long time; even bought something at this store yesterday, and this is the first time this "policy" has ever been mentioned to me. anyone know why some sets get the Free Store Pickup Available in 5-10 day while other large sets do not? I noticed this recently on the DS and Architecture Studio. I know I have bought other no lego items in the past that gave this option, but this is the first I have seen on lego.
