General Buying & Selling

Overall discussion on the buying and selling of LEGO

I'd like to publicly give paypal a double thumbs up. I was ready to accept a $120 rookie mistake when I sold to someone in the Russian Federation who had only had their account for a couple days. Shipped off a Spongebob set via First Class international. Received a chargeback notice after shipping, saying the purchase was unauthorized. Now I know (but then I didn't) that paypal seller protection covers you in the event that you ship via a traceable service (USPS priority express). I'm pretty sure that these people go searching for sellers that list first class international as an option as I had ANOTHER sale two days later from a different person in the Russian Feder…

I found Vampyre Castle 9468 for $84.99 with free shipping. I'm on the fence about buying it right now. Is this worth it as an investment? Let me know your thoughts.

  3. Buying Lego from DIYTrade is safe? The price is cheap. e.***.:- http://www.diytrade.com/china/pd/7775178/Lego_Eiffel_Tower_Create_and_Make_Set_10181.html Has anyone bought from this website? Thanks.

I have heard talk of a Bricks and Minifig store opening up in my area. I actually looked into opening one or something similar and the numbers just didnt seem right for my area. Hopefully I am wrong and the store is a great success. We already have a Lego store and its one of the smallest as far as sales volume goes. I dont really have much competition in my area when it comes to buying clearance Lego so I hope that doesnt change.

  5. Do you guys ever know you have something, but when you look for it you can't find it? I know pretty much everyone has experienced this. I'm starting to sift through inventory for listing stuff this holiday season. I've went through what I thought was my entire inventory 3 times and I can't find a Ninjago Destiny's Bounty that I know I have somewhere. I've searched for it for over 2 hours and my searching has pretty much negated any profit that I'll ever see even if I do find it. I have a bad habit of putting stuff in boxes and totes and I have to open all of them when searching. Oh well, it will be a nice surprise maybe someday in the future.

  7. I'm going to be selling off a few of my sets. I'm looking for advice on shipping. Particularly, what is the most cost effective way to ship without damaging the product. Also how much to charge I looked at priority mail flat rate boxes but they seem sort of expensive. I see people charging 6 bucks for items that would fit in a $12 priority flat rate box. Also, does anyone have more specific advice for different sizes of sets? My thinking is that I need to have 5 different size boxes and shipping rates calculated based approximately on pcs - i.e. the 100 pc, 200, 400, 600, and 800 pc sets. I don't have anything larger than that yet. For simpli…

  8. Anyone seen the post on Toys ****** Bricks post about Kmarts having 50% off clearanced items and some are finding even the hobbits goblin king marked down to 37.50

Hi guys, I wanted to ask for your opinion on a claim one of my eBay buyers is making. I am a newer seller so I don't have a lot of experience with problematic sales. I got a message from them this morning asking when the item would arrive. I replied with a link to the tracking, showing it had been delivered on Saturday. They then replied with this message: I just received the package today in the mail along with a letter from the post office, seems the lego got damaged during shipping. The package is empty and I believe they sent the damaged item back to you so you should be receiving it sometime this week. I don't know what that means for me. Do I get a refund sinc…

  10. Does anyone bother to remove the clearance stickers on your sets intended for resale? I was checking on eBay today to gauge values (Chima, specifically), and it doesn't appear that having the clearance stickers makes much difference in resale value. I've been removing them, and in one or two cases it actually damaged the box, so now I am debating on just leaving them alone. Thoughts?

Hi all, I recently picked up 6399- Airport Shuttle at an estate sale and just ordered the last of the missing pieces this week. This is my first attempt at reselling and I could use some advice. Would you recommend trying to sell the set locally first to avoid shipping and fees or should I list it online (i.e., Bricklink, eBay, Reddit, or Brickpicker) because this is an older and more expensive? Thanks!

I know why they call it YOYO.com now because apparently they have a bunch of yoyos packaging the Lego sets for shipping. I bought a vampyre castle and a helms deep from them over the past week and both arrive separately and slightly crushed. They are sending me replacements, but I can't imagine they are going to hold up any better. Anyway...that's all.

Hi BPs, I have a collection of MISB legos that I've collected over the period of around 10 years. Everything is in great shape, sans maybe a few boxes that have dents or dings. I was very selective and usually had a dented box shipped back to LSAH and returned for a good one. Ideally, I'd like to have msrp (I already paid 6% sales tax, which I would'nt be charging for. I realize thats not easy, because someone with a large wallet will need to put up $, and thats why I'm willing to let it go for msrp, currently. I realize there are some good sets and some sets that may take a bit longer to sell, but overall, I think there is decent money to be made. I'd be…

Ok lets make a European discussion thread about all important stuff for Europe LEGO investing. I am sure there are many similarities to US investing, and entering is the same, but how do Europe investors/AFOLs get their sets. Do you mostly use Amazon.uk.com? Do you use Ebay... How do you prepare to ''fight'' US competition with such discounted prices... I have a good idea for Jeff and Ed, when/if they look this thread. It would be neat, if we could get option for Brickfolio to be set in Europe, and our price points and retail numbers would be 25% higher than US. Would not skew graphs that badly. Because now it seems even with Discount of 20% I end up seeing a…

More and more, I miss out on great deals as I do not have Amazon Prime (I think it is not possible yet for the Netherlands). I was wondering what the experiences are of the people that do have it and if it is recommended. Next to this, it would be nice to have a thread to track changes to the proposition. I am sorry if this thread already exists, but I could not find it.

  16. My son has 10 large bins of Legos to sell. He wants to sell them to collectors only. He wants them to go to a good home where he knows someone will appreciate the bricks and use them to build amazing things. He would prefer to sell to an adult Lego collector. He does not want to sell them to parents looking for large lots for kids (my son is 16). We've looked at eBay, but there is no way to politely say "collectors only." Does anyone have advice?

I was wondering what general practices everyone used for shipping their items. I am curious if uline is the best place to get boxes or if people just generally reused boxes they get from places like Amazon. Uline's prices seem reasonable, but the quantities you have to buy are kind of steep. I guess if I end up going that route, I will just measure some of my boxes to find sizes that fit multiple sets. On the other hand, Amazon's boxes feel cheap and flimsy and I am not sure they would make it through 2 shipments without damaging the item inside. Just wondering what kind of luck others have had.

What are your personal experiences selling EMPTY Lego boxes locally and/or eBay? How do you ship EMPTY boxes? Flattened? Sandwiched? Unflattened and boxed? How do you list and charge for shipping? BIN? Bid? Thank you for your time. 😎

  19. Started by Lateral-G,

Typically when you buy from Wal-Mart online and choose site-to-store for merchandise pick-up the item will come in a shipping box. But sometimes the items isn't boxed and they slap an adhesive label with your name and order right on the product box. This is what happened on my recent Lego order of a Golden Dragon. Fortunately this was a birthday gift for my daughter but had it been for collecting I would have been pissed. Just be aware.....

  20. I would have thought that assembling them to take a picture for Ebay would be the way to go but I'm seeing that some people think this is a big no no. If you sell new minifigures on ebay what do you recommend? Assembled? Unassembled? Assemble for the photo then break down afterwards? It seems like such a minute detail but I want to get this right. I know there'll be some for one way and some for another - I just want to get an idea of the majority. Thanks! Oh - and if it has accessories - bagged seperately or with the minifig? Its all so complicated!

Shame on you people who knowingly buy from illegal drop shippers on EBay! The reason you do it is because you know that even if you report it there is a high probability that the retailer will tell you to keep the set anyway. You are just as guilty as the person using the stolen credit card and are contributing to someones hardship. Why do I post this here and why do I know this is going on? Because I have seen it with my own eyes and some of the people that are doing this are BP members. Shame on you and don't you worry you will get yours trust me! I'm disgusted!

http://www.brickpicker.com/bpms/set.cfm?set=76013-1 When I looked at the Lego 76013 'The Joker Steam Roller set', I was astounded by the retail price difference between Europe and the US. If I convert the Dutch Price of 64,99 euro's to dollars, (64,99 : 0,725) the outcome = 89,64 dollars! It isn't far off to say that the price in The Netherlands is almost double of the US price. I cannot think of a good explanation for this price difference. I think it's unfair of LEGO to the European Customers. Has anyone got an explanation for this?

Just a heads up on this listing: http://cleveland.craigslist.org/clt/3162205658.html Of course $200 for a sealed 10179 is ridiculous but I wanted to kick the tires anyway. I have asked the seller to send pictures. The first picture he sent was from a ebay listing. I also inquired about the death star. That pic was from an Australian classified page. So of course, I asked for a specific picture. He sends me the thank you note you get with the set. Which I replied I want a picture of the set with a message on a piece of paper or you throwing up a peace sign. He responds with a picture of the set on top of a lego mat. Of course that pic is found on this site ht…
