General Buying & Selling

Overall discussion on the buying and selling of LEGO

Hi, I bought a 100% complete Sandcrawler 10144 and its in great shape. I'm going to tear it down and rebuild it for fun. It is dusty. What is the best method to clean a very dusty lego set. Just a rag, blow air, or put in water individual pieces from large to small if plastic only with no stickers? Want to get it super clean but not harm it. Thanks!

Hi everyone--I am thinking of starting a small at home business reselling used Lego. Does anybody have any advice for me concerning best way to come with offer prices and resale prices? Also, if anyone is doing this now, how is it going for you? Thanks everyone. I can be reached at [email protected]

I am looking to either learn something new or confirm my suspicions. I am selling a couple of LEGO boxes (yes, just the box. I know, right?) on eBay. From what I can see, there is no *legitimate* way to get around paying $7 to $10 just to ship the thing. I got an eBay request to reduce the price by "flattening" the box. Unless I am missing something, that doesn't change the weight or classification. Thus, it costs the same (though that logic does seem to be lost on buyers, it seems). Anyone have any different experience or insight shipping just the box? Thanks!

I have a relative who's been helping me out with buying lego. He works for a big box store but can't tell you which one. He basically lets me use his employee discount of 15%. He's about to quit and asks if there's anything I want to load up on. With this said, do I get the most of my money by buying exclusives (modulars, Simpsons etc) at 15% off or do I use my funds elsewhere buying up supposed EOL sets at full price? (GE, SSD etc). The "eol" exclusives are oos at the store he works for. Opinions are most welcome. Cliff notes: exclusive with discount vs eol at retail, where to tie up funds?

The package is tore open through the envelop. I have pictures fom as soon as it arrived. Please advise on how you would like to proceed." fyi... buyer was super late on payment and I had to ask him to make payment even after ebay had sent him non paying bidder notices... what do you guys recommend I do? ask to ship back to me? ask him to pay for me to ship him new one? or just ship him new one and let him know its' the only one i'm going to ship again. Are there any other places to sell Lego other then eBay ? What sites are the best for sales and sellers fees

  7. Started by hollywdbri,

The site seems to have vanished and they haven't updated any social media. Did Bricklink cease and desist take them down for good?

  8. Started by biniou,

Sorry I tried to search "ebay" and "paypaI" in search box but no results. I sold a set on ebay (internationally) two days ago, and I saw that ebay and paypal buyer's adress are different. He doesn't reply to my messages on any of the email adress (I already had problems with people of the same country, it took me 1 week to have an answer so now I'm anticipating). Where am I supposed to ship the item to have paypal insurance ? Ebay or Paypal ? I fear that if I ship to his ebay adress, and it's not the good one, the package may be lost and I could do nothing. On the other hand, if the paypal adress isn't his actual adress, he may agrue that I did not s…

Does anyone use the Brother QL-700 label printer? Does it print labels through eBay well? I was looking at this one as an option with using a Mac computer. I had looked at the DYMO 450, but read it isn't compatible with OSX post 10.4. Thanks!

  10. So the results are in! I bought a DYMO 450. Super easy to get going and set up with labels for USPS. I cannot believe I ever used a freaking printer. This thing is INSANE! I thought I could also give people a little insight into my methods too. Feel free to suggest your improvements! So here are some starting points - I am all about efficiency when working so I do a lot of timing myself and taking statistics. So here you go: I ship an average of 12 things a weekday - about 20 for the full weekend or more. Most of these are minifigures and parted out sets or used sets I sell without the box. I use USPS for the majority of shipments obviously - first class. M…

  11. It may be obvious for several of you (so please don't be harsh and just ignore this topic if you think it's stupid) but I had some really hard time trying to make some package to fit right for the sets I just sold. I had a set and box, weight with package 3.1kg and I wanted to reduce weight under 3.0 kg (2.950kg) so the shipping price will be lower. It's hard to bend the cardboard so here is a small tip to help you. I use a video game/DVD steelbox So I can bend the cardboard easily I do it several times, then at this end I use some creased paper I hope it will help some of you.

  13. I never had this issue before even when adding insurance, Non-eBay transaction with payment (over $250) made using PayPal. Buyer is in Singapore. PayPal was used to create the USPS International Express shipping label. Only problem when printing the postal label was adding insurance (not an option within the GUI). I confirmed with both USPS and PayPal phone reps that insurance can be added at my local Post Office. Shipping cost $95 rounded. At the Post Office, the clerk claimed she wasn't able to add insurance since the "label # or some customs # " wasn't in the system (in hindsight, maybe I should have used USPS.com to print this label...). She also said this …

Hey Guys what do I do??? I sold an item and the buyer says they didn't receive it. I shipped via usps priority with insurance... usps says the item was delivered. the buyer says they've been going back and forth with usps. thanks for any advice!

I was wondering what general practices everyone used for shipping their items. I am curious if uline is the best place to get boxes or if people just generally reused boxes they get from places like Amazon. Uline's prices seem reasonable, but the quantities you have to buy are kind of steep. I guess if I end up going that route, I will just measure some of my boxes to find sizes that fit multiple sets. On the other hand, Amazon's boxes feel cheap and flimsy and I am not sure they would make it through 2 shipments without damaging the item inside. Just wondering what kind of luck others have had.

  16. I just sold a 4x4 Ltd Edition Crawler on ebay to a buyer in the Netherlands who has no feedback, and has already sent me a message saying he will pay in 2 days once his paypal account is set up. Apart from obtaining insurance on the shipping, is there anything I should be doing or worried about?

I've been buying online for years now from all of the big LEGO dealers (you know the companies I'm talking about) and never seemed to have problems with damaged boxes. Seems as of late no matter where I order from the Lego boxes are poorly packed and then crushed by the shipper. Doesn't seem like there is any care in packaging anymore. They throw them into a shipping box that is too big and don't use proper packing materials and then the shipping company tosses them around and by the time they arrive the Lego boxes are crushed. Anyone else having similar problems?

I sold two Simpsons Houses in the same order to one buyer, and when I go to print shipping label, it shows twice the weight, but only the dimensions for one box... Will eBay print two separate shipping labels, or do they assume I'll ship both together? Is there a way I can select to do it one way or the other? If so, what do you guys recommend? Thanks in advance for your help.

...I was checking out what's new at my local Lego Store yesterday and decided to fill a small cup from the Pick-a-Brick wall... an employee saw me and said that yesterday was the last day for the "old" price for both small and large cups... starting today, the price of both cups would have gone up... how much, I didn't ask as I scrambled to fill several more cups... no wonder (first time I saw it), a couple other employees were emptying out some slots for "new" parts... ...can someone confirm this?... if so, is the price increase just for stores in the US or all over?...

Question for those who Lego as a small business. does the mileage to buy a set affect the cost basis? If i drive to a store (Target, Walmart) to look for clearance Legos but don't end up getting any does that count as a deduction for mileage? thanks for the info. if this is posted somewhere else let me know.

I've been enjoying some good deals thru Kmart's SWYR program. I have thought about joining Meijer's Mperks and/ or Shopko rewards program. The only thing, the nearest one is hundreds of miles away, I would only be buying Legos on-line. Would it be worth it? I know Meijer's had some great Lego deals recently.

  22. Started by Wazzapova,

I'm just going to get to the point. I respect EVERY Brickpicker on the site. But I want to know if you think the deals that members project are truly accurate. Do you think a deal someone had gotten is put of this world or legitimate? Or is there some embellishment?

  23. Started by Wazzapova,

Hi Brickpickers! Imagine this. You find a perfect mint box of your favourite Lego item at your local store. You carefully pick it up like a rare Velociraptor toe fossil in an archaeological dig, and very, very carefully place it in your shopping cart. You get to the counter to pay, and the clerk (obviously not a Lego collector) haphazardly rings it up and bangs a corner or scratches the box on the edge of the counter and shoves it in the bag. Do you gasp? Do you not care? Thoughts, please! Personally I gasp!

  24. I have an 8 year old girl who loves Lego's. Due to the cost of Lego's of it, she usually builds whatever I can get on clearance. Most times the sets aren't really what a little girl likes. I am curious what sets I could buy that once opened I could recover 75% or more of the cost within six months to a year. For example today I bought the friends riding camp for $93 at TRU. Anyone have any advice for a dad looking to provide his daughter with something better than galaxy squad stuff? I clearly don't expect anything to be a sure thing.

I was just curious where everyone goes on the weekend to shop for Lego? You might go out and look or look online. Where do you shop for Lego on the weekend?
