General Buying & Selling

Overall discussion on the buying and selling of LEGO

  1. Started by LegoDayd,

Saw someone post in the daily thread about emotional upset cashier and didn't want to reply there. I have a story I wanted to share and thought I start a new thread. If there is something similar already please MOD merge mine into it, thanks. My personal favorite of all time was when the XBox 360 first came out. I bought a Xbox 360 after the initial Xmas rush and wanted to get the highest quality cable for back then. I saw Circuit City had a Psyclone cable for the 360 at $25 which it normally sold for $60. So great I go to CC but they were all sold out, I was like "oh wait Best Buy price matches items I'll shoot over there. I go in, find they have the cable - sweet.…

Before I go off on one, can you check whether I am reading this right. http://portal.ebay.co.uk/good-surprise I got this in my inbox yesterday and it is posted as "Good Surprise" for private sellers - of which I am one. At the moment I get 100 free auctions per month starting at

I did a quick search and didn't come up with much info. If I missed a thread or topic please point me to that. Anyway, I was finally going to try going through paypal for shipping. This will be a transaction outside of ebay (making a trade). I would like to ship via first class since I am just shipping 2 figures. i heard you get free tracking if you pay online too, is that true? Now do I just go through paypal's site, enter the recipient, pick first class then pay?

http://www.brickpicker.com/bpms/set.cfm?set=76013-1 When I looked at the Lego 76013 'The Joker Steam Roller set', I was astounded by the retail price difference between Europe and the US. If I convert the Dutch Price of 64,99 euro's to dollars, (64,99 : 0,725) the outcome = 89,64 dollars! It isn't far off to say that the price in The Netherlands is almost double of the US price. I cannot think of a good explanation for this price difference. I think it's unfair of LEGO to the European Customers. Has anyone got an explanation for this?

Not sure where to post this, but I am more of a collector (aka lego hoarder) and while I should probably resell what I have as it's overtaking our house, I've never purchased in insane quantities, sold anything, or otherwise. With the 2x VIP points, I made two orders, one for a Sea Cow and a few friends sets, and another for a Cinema Palace, both shipped to a relative's home as I've done countless times in the past. I don't buy 100 vampire hearses, for instance. To note, I have made about 25~ orders in 2013 to now via lego's site. These two orders were placed and then cancelled and having spent about a half hour on the phone with them, my account was f…

$200 for a 20lbs lot. Has 3 large grey base plates as well, Briefly went through the lot and seen about 30 mini-figs. Didn't have any boxes or much manuals. OK I think I've overpaid for this, but at the time i thought it was a good deal and besides the kid wanted to sell his Lego to buy an Xbox. Will post some pics once I get it sorted somewhat.

I sell a lot of non-lego items on ebay and have always used newspaper. Mostly because I have an almost unlimited supply of it and it's all free. I've recently started selling some of my lego investments and was wondering, is it ok to use newspaper? The reason I ask is I'm worried the the print could potentially rub off on the boxes? Anyone else use newspaper to ship, I've searched around haven't found any other info on it?

Hello everyone, I've just scoured through "General Buying & Selling" and I don't seem to be able to find some tips on this. My wife found a set from some local seller and we are interested in getting it. The set that we found contains about 1000+ pieces, it is already assembled (according to the seller) but will be disassembled for easier transportation. We are meeting him over the weekend. We are both new to buying used Lego sets, so what tips do you have when buying a set from a local seller? How do we check each piece (or you don't?). I presume when the seller says "will be disassembled", he's not gonna disassembled it entirely. Thanks.

I am a new member of brickpicker.com looking to get into bulk lots. However, I am having a hard time finding good ones. Any advice on how or where to find good lego bulk sets would be highly appreciated! I am looking for bulk sets with minifigs not ones that have already been sorted and minifigs removed.

  12. The reason I ask this is because my sales have dropped off to almost nothing for the last week. I don't understand it. I am a Top Rated Plus Seller, and have around 40+ active listings at all times. I used to do around $50-$70 a day on an average day, and over $100 on good days. Lately I have had two days where I didn't sell a single thing. This hasn't happened to me in several months! Has anyone else been experiencing similar trends? I am not necessarily worried yet, but this is very odd. I can't figure out what is causing this. Any thoughts???

  13. I bought this lot for 20$ at a Yard Sale and want to sell it on Ebay but I want to know what the most efficient way to sell them is. I roughly separated them by color but its not 100%. Should I separate the minifigs and sell them separately? Any help is appreciated. Thanks! Edit: There are definately more than 30 minifigures

I'm 30. Played with legos till my early teens then forgot about them. Then the movie came out and now I want legos. But since they are so expensive and since I don't like to let people just walk with my money I'm almost certain I'm not buying retail, esp. not after seeing the prices at Walmart, Target, Toys R Us, etc. I'll likely search the internet until I find a decent lego let. But I've been at this for a week and still have to find a good deal. On amazon, for instance, there are a bunch of people trying to sell legos by the pound. But there is so much that is wrong with that business model that I don't even know where to start with my list of complaints: what i…

  15. So I here people mention this a lot and I totally understand - 1. Frustrated with Idiot buyers 2. TIred of going to the post office everyday. 3. Want to smash your tape dispenser 4. Done with printing labels and paying stupid USPS inflated prices. 5. Done with USPS losing packages And more and more. So I thought I would share what is helping me through this on the off chance it might help someone else. I am a candid guy - probably too open sometimes - but in January I was really really struggling with this. December burned me out some and made me realize that I was frustrating myself to much. This was complicated by the fact that …

Was hoping to get some advice from some veteran sellers. I am relatively new to collecting and probably won't begin selling much until next year. I have been logging my purchases into brickpicker and exporting to an excel spreadsheet for now. I include the sales tax in my cost of goods when I log my purchases. Is this the best way to keep track for now? I am not ready to fork over the money for quickbooks or any software like that yet. Also, I have been selling DVDs and other misc. items from around the house to get my ebay feedback up until I am ready to start selling lego. I have not sold any of these items for a profit. As long as I sell a few lego sets this ye…

  17. I'm going to Florida Legoland and will also drop by Downtown Disney Lego store next week. What should I look for that's not easily found elsewhere? Legoland also gives 10% discount for annual ticket holder (which I don't have, and will cost $100 if I decide to buy one). Any advice is appreciated.

  18. I recently posted a set on bricklink for $95 and it sold a couple days later. (cheapest on BL) The user is from Canada (I'm in the US) and send a message asking if they can pay by paypal and if I will send it as a gift...I responded and said yes you can definitely pay with paypal, but I would not send it as a gift as I'm selling it (I understand customs taxes probably aren't cheap in canada) However, the user has 0 feedback. I am looking up shipping rates to canada for this large set and it's around $38, and tracking is not available for this feature. The user created an account feb 23, so it's their first 2 weeks apparently. I dont know....should I go ahead and sel…

So I recently placed two orders with amazon and walmart.com. Both have tracking that says that the packages were delivered but I never received anything. Do I have any recourse? The carrier on both instances was the USPS...just wondering if any other's had a similar experience and what the best way to get results is. Thanks!

  20. So my story begins upon leaving the movie theatre after viewing The Desolation of Smaug. With nothing scheduled for the afternoon, I decided to take a quick peek in the nearby Wal-Mart to see if there was anything of note within their clearance section. This particular Wal-Mart is one of the older, less desirable ones, small and disorganized that I had frequented only once before. If I had any expectations, they would have been extremely low. So into the store I go, heading straight for the clearance banner hanging by the garden section of the store. As I walk down the aisle, my heart skips a beat when I gazed upon a new, undamaged 4840, The Burrow. I couldn

There are a few sets that I want, but I am curious if there might be better deals on these to come later this year? 75017 Duel on Geonosis (haven't seen it less than $36) 75020 Jabba Sail Barge (haven't seen it cheaper than $75-$80) 75021 Republic gunship (Some Walmarts at $79) 76006 Iron Man Seaport battle (I'm assuming this might be Walmart/target summer clearance?) 6860 Batcave (will this last until Christmas?) 9516 Jabba's palace (My local Wal-mart has 5, but still at $119 and I check the app every day) Thanks for any input. I wasn't keeping up last year during the best deals like black Friday/cyber Monday and wonder if any of these will be as av…
