General Buying & Selling

Overall discussion on the buying and selling of LEGO

  1. Started by DoNotInsertIntoMouth,

I'm going to take a few moments to take a page out of my co-worker's book. He is a blunt man, and generally if something is wrong in the office, he sends out an email and copies everyone on it calling out whatever is being done (like not filling the coffee pot) and whoever is doing it. Not the best way to go about things, but results are there. He signs them "Crotchety Old Man" (hes 29) So here is my Crotchety Old man Post: A few things I want to put out there. These are facts IMO (clashes I know) that some people should know. I think people throw around silly numbers and comparisons way too much. You can say "Well we are free to think this - its not hur…

  2. Curious what everyone is picking up next double VIP points (rumored to be in april)

  3. I know its everyone's right to smoke so please don't think I mean offense to anyone, but has anyone got a set from a smoker that was very bad smelling, and what did they do to freshen it up? Again, I mean no offense to anyone with this question, just tying to find some solutions. Also, can you do anything about the box and instructions? Thanks!

  4. So I thought I would try and start a thread for settings for label printers people use - how to set them up and how to get started. A mod can add if others have settings and other Label printers people can use. Dymp 450/Dymo 400/ Turbos There are two parts. When you go to print the labels (like when you are purchasing them - if you already did, you have to void and start over - extremely stupid) click on the "printer and label receipt preferences". You want to go down to "Supported Label Printers" and then select Dymo Labelwriter 400 2.4x7. The second part is in the actual dymo printing preferences inside your PC. If you have a Windows OC, just go …

I wanted to know how to become a licensed seller of Lego products and get the order form some people on this site have. I've been incorporated for the last 2 years and wanted to expand to selling Legos at a retail level. Any info from people who do this is much appreciated

Hello fellow Legophiles. I have found one bad thing about clearance sales on Legos--those stickers they put on the boxes with the clearance price. I got a Diagonal Alley and the tag was over Harry's face. He now looks like one of the dementors got a hold of him. On a subsequent one I had good luck with Goo-Gone but it made me nervous using it. Anybody have any other ideas to get these pesky boogers off?

  7. I would very much like to do this full time. I've been doing some here and there, and just ready to be my own boss. I'm no stranger to long days and hard work, I'm just tired of making someone else money so I ran some quick numbers which I listed below. I also have knowledge and currently posses several comics, die cast, figures, and several thousand sports cards that would be in addition to Lego. I'm 30. Played with legos till my early teens then forgot about them. Then the movie came out and now I want legos. But since they are so expensive and since I don't like to let people just walk with my money I'm almost certain I'm not buying retail, esp. not after seeing the prices at Walmart, Target, Toys R Us, etc. I'll likely search the internet until I find a decent lego let. But I've been at this for a week and still have to find a good deal. On amazon, for instance, there are a bunch of people trying to sell legos by the pound. But there is so much that is wrong with that business model that I don't even know where to start with my list of complaints: what i…

  9. Hi all! First time shipping a lego set internationally. Need to ship it out urgently but realised I ran out of the USPS transparent envelope (2976-E) which is used to contain the customs forms. I have a UPS transparent one sitting at home though. Does anyone know if I can use that instead or is USPS strict abt this? I've also scheduled a pick-up for my parcel - by any chance the USPS mailman will have any of these stashed in his vehicle? Really appreciate any help or advice here. Thanks in advance!

How much should legos cost by the pound? Just plain 2 by 4 red bricks and stuff like that. nothing special.

Here is an interesting quote from a website 5 years ago that I agree with very much and wonder what some of your thoughts are. Albeit some on here have such large collections and sell mostly misb so it takes some less time than parting out a set but for the most part arent we all limited by time and space and will find it hard to make millions selling lego. I do make a good living from reselling but do not see a bright future personnaly in Lego no retirement other than my toy stock no benefits and little time off and an ever challenging and ebay marketplace are just some of the difficulties we face... "As someone who actually does buy and sell Legos on eBay and Brickli…

  12. So i was on Ebay and I was looking at an indiana jones the temple of doom set 7199 (99% complete no minifigs). it the auction was ending soon and had about a minute left. the current price was $19 so i figured i'll throw in something and see what happens. So on my phone i put in $21.09. But thanks to my LG phone or the ebay ap or maybe only slightly user error the "." did not take so my highest bid was $2109. I had to do a double take and I was like how can i stop this please NO ONE bid! Can i cancel? Oh man my wife is going to freak out that i bought a $2k lego set. as the seconds were counting down no bids but the last 10 seconds always have snipers. 5 seconds left boom…

We are having a garage sale this weekend and I thought of putting some sets out. I know people go to these looking for deals. Is it worth the time since the sets I want to sale would be $50-100 each. Just curious if anyone has had good luck selling unopened sets at a garage sale.

I am thinking about selling a few extra sets, lots, pieces, as I go throughout the year. I wanted your input as to where to devote my time building a store? I really like the Brick Owl user interface and communication from the owner. Responds within minutes on nearly every question or topic. But, I've used bricklink for purchases and it is the "go to" for so many. I know they are "suppose" to be updating their site in the near future. I've seen where people run the same inventory on both stores, I guess that is an option. Where would you put your efforts? This will be something I tinker with over time. Thanks!

  15. Do they always ship the sets by themselves without a shipping box? I have read a number of horrible stories here and wonder if there are any positive incidents. Bought 2 tower bridges with the current $40 GC promotion and certainly hope I don't learn the lesson the hard way. I mean, they cannot always be that retarded, can they?

  16. Here is the straight of it. BOGOLEGO is the coupon code. It will only work on two sets within a single order. If someone can figure out a better combination please post. This sale is good for a true 25% off discount if you buy two of the same set. Happy Hunting! LINK TO YOYO.COM

  17. This is probably located somewhere else but I couldn't figure it out on B&****** website or find here. I want to grab a Death Star at my closest B&******. I saw on their site about the kids program and you get 30% off first Toy purchase. I signed up for my online account only, not my kids club thing yet. I heard it entitles you to 10% discount on everything? Is this true? So with the kids club coupon it will be 40% off total for a DS? Sorry if the questions are stupid I don't want to take a ride to B&****** and not get the 40% off. Thanks LD

I haven't really used FedEx much before. I notice it is more available now on my sold items - how is the shipping speed vs. Parcel Select? Wondering how reliable FedEx is, with USPS I usually see items delivered within 3-4 days regardless of distance in the lower 48 for the most part.

Some of you might remember I posted this Summer about selling off a 1,000+ collection of Lego to raise money for a new home purchase. I input everything into Brickfolio and discovered I had 1,098 sets valued at $55k. I started selling the sets selectively on Craigslist and Amazon and raised about $16-18k over the last month and then came into my warehouse this morning only to discover that most of my remaining sets have been stolen. The Sheriff's department just left, but it is pretty obvious the suspects knew what they were looking for, they took some sets and left others. They hauled out a couple hundred sets and even stole two moving dollies in the process.…

  21. So I guess everybody know's if you make over $20,000 and have over 200 Paypal Transactions Paypal sends you a w2 Statement to you and the IRS. When this started 2 years ago I called Paypal and asked them about Chargebacks, Chargebacks are when you buy something with your Paypal credit card and then you return it to say Target Etc and you get your money back, well thats a Chargeback and that count's toward you receiving money, Paypal told me it didn't count, but guess what it does count. So 2 years ago I got the w2 from Paypal saying I made $65,000 but had 210 Paypal Transactions, so this won't affect most people on here but if you sell alot keep that in mine. So if I buy …

  23. ================== update to original post by jaisonline. Please post all comments here about these two popular shopping days of each year (at least in the U.S.). I also added a poll for Cyber Monday ================== I am a newer member to the forums and collecting and I wasn't here last year for Black Friday Question is: what kind of deals can I expect? I was planning on making a few larger purchases from the lego store for the extra holiday set and extra VIP points but have no other plans Online the way to go? There anything out there more than 50%? Thanks just trying to plan out the finances for holiday season

  24. I just started to ship my minifigures on eBay and when I was about to print out the shipping label, I found out that it costed $1.69 for an envelope, that held less than an ounce of Legos inside. I thought this was way over the top, so I put a "Forever" stamp on it and shipped it out. A couple days later, I received the envelope back in the mail with an arrow to the stamps and the words "Incorrect Postage, add $0.20", so the next morning, I sent it out with the extra $0.20 on it. I received it back today, so I decided to take the envelope to the Post Office and ask them about it. The lady at the desk said that it qualified as a package since it was more than 1/4 inch thic…
