what is the website you are mentioning? I only see **************

I guess because it’s a competitive website or some other unwritten reason? Idk, I saw that after I wrote it but got lazy. Brick Econ Omy. Com.

They are basing it off of past retirement dates of similar sets with an expected retirement of early-to-mid 2021

It's wonky as all get out and I don't trust it.  In the past, it has listed sets as retired that weren't and I find its "predictions" (guesses) as suspect.

this matrix is good for general "informed" retirement speculation; but by far not fool-proof.

Is it actionable intel?  I personally would not bet the farm on it...maybe good enough to get one or two at RRP; and good enough to go "deep" at 15+% off (if we're talkin UCS MILF...30+% for most other sets)

IMO I would leave it alone at RRP, may get one or two at 15% off. But definately not too deep. You never know how long these iconic UCS sets going to linger, also with the high probability of remake.

What are your picks for Architecture sets to retire this year? The sets currently available (excluding 2020) are,

21028 New York City 2016

21034 London 2017

21042 Statue of Liberty 2018

21043 San Francisco 2019

21044 Paris 2019

21045 Trafalgar Square 2019

21046 Empire State Building 2019

The ones in bold are my guesses... Maybe NYC will go though, there are too many well known cities in that list. FYI, Tower Eiffel stuck around for 5 years and NYC/London have been around longer than that.

100% agree with this, i have already started stacking san fran & statue of lib from last years sales

only problem for me is the london, nyc have been around for too long, & with limited tourism going on, if any time is good to retire these its now. so ill tread carefully

I'm guessing for every Statue of Liberty you make more with 2 San frans just thinking in terms of volume, the landmark series moves much more slowly than the skyline series. I will pick up Liberty and Trafalgar just for variety but probably hit more of SF. NYC and London I will buy only when they hit a very good price just in case they go.

I think Stonewars had some rumors about mid-year retirements in February last year... no record of it but my purchases that time based on their predictions (Nether Portals and Anakin's Jedi Starfighter). They do have an article dated 5 June 2020 regarding mid-year EOL.

today list from site "Stonewars" .   thank you Stonewars :) https://www.stonewars.de/news/end-of-life-maerz-2021/

Promobricks.de have just published a larger list of spring/summer retirements.

Couple interesting ones. 75254 reminds me of Jabbas Palace 9516 when they stopped production due to a “resemblance of a mosque in Istanbul” among other accusations. The recent Gina Carano controversy may or may not be the reason, seems like it is, it it’s sent this minifigure through the roof on eBay.

Hello all again,

After viewing the newest Promobricks retirement list I am looking to gauge people's opinions on the impending 75266 (Sith Troopers Battle Pack) retirement. I have yet to pick up multiples of this set (x50) for my own personal army building collection and have the following questions:

  1. This set's current price is at $12.99 (Target and Amazon), is this a good buy, or hold out for a little less? In the past Target has discounted battle packs down to $9.99.
  2. I know everyone has their opinions on the reliability of Promobricks, but it seems to be sort of a "gold standard" for retirement lists. What are everyone's thoughts on **************? The site has 75266 listed as retiring in Q1 2022. Is this site a good measure of retirement?

As always, any & all insight/advice/commentary is appreciated. As a side note, any word as to when 75273 (Poe's X Wing) may retire and get some sort of a discount finally?

Lowest this set has gone has been $11.99.  Battle packs generally are not bad but definitely a bit of hit and miss and price point matters the most at which you buy.  Still could be a long hold.  All depends probably on how well SW interest holds.  Pre Mandolorian TV, most SW sets wer duds.  just my two cents.  i still have a lot of the black stormtrooper battle packs that don't sell from 4 years ago.

Basically, all the star wars Battle Packs in the last several years have had a shelf life of 1-2 years. 75266 came out Dec 19, so for it to retire this summer, or at the absolute latest, Dec of this coming year, seems like a sure bet.

If it retires mid year, depending on your retail clearance opportunities, I'd say there's probably a good shot at getting this at half off. If it retires next holiday season, it could be tougher, but still possible.

If you're holding out to buy 50 for personal use, I'd say that you definitely have good opportunities in the next year to get them at $10 or less. Whether or not the total of $100 possible savings (10$ vs 12$ x50) is worth it to you, is up to you to decide. I can say that basically all the major retailers have rows of them near me, and they do seem to be decent sellers.

If you are intending to buy 50 personal use, buy 80 or so now.

If it retires early, sell the extra 30 in a year or two for $30-$40 each.

If it goes down to 9.99, just buy more - I don't see the problem.
