Let's see whether the castle can outlast the almitey VW campervan

The VW is done this year.

Minimal stock left in Australia. Highly likely it won't be restocked if the retirement rumours are true.

Disney is in financial problem due to the virus.  Why would they want to stop collecting licensing $ from LEGO for sets like Disney Castle that are already paid for in term of design and promotion costs ?

Disney is not hurting -- at all.  The virus may impact ticket sales at the park but that is just a drop in the bucket to the movies and now Disney+. I'd like to think that the castle is on the home stretch to being out, but its a big ticket item that has at least one more holiday season in it, I'd bet.

Somewhere around 37% of Disney’s revenue comes from parks and other customer experience avenues (cruises). Not sure I would call that a drop in the bucket. Now they are trying to grow other revenue streams, but that takes time to become profitable.

All of their 2020 movies are delayed (Mulan, Black Widow, etc). They have Onward and Hamilton this year; that's it. ESPN has no sports to show. Most of the Disney+ shows are delayed. Parks are ghost towns. They just posted their first loss in like 20 years.

Disney is absolutely in bad place financially at the moment.

Disney’s revenues are down, but so are their costs.

There’s no disagreement that they’re not making as much as they could, but they’re not exactly losing as much as you think they are.

Streaming services don’t exactly require significant labor and overhead. The profit margins are simply astounding.

The rest of the world is opening up, Moderna just signed a deal to provide 100 million doses of vaccines for the U.S., Russia just registered their own vaccine. Granted the stock market is representative of an investor’s emotions more than any practical indicator, but I wouldn’t bet against Disney going below $100 a share.

I didn't want to open up a discussion on Disney's financials on the Retiring soon forum.

The point is that they will take any stream of income due to the current circumstances, therefore I'm speculating that the Disney Theme Legos may last longer than expected.

Anyone have any inklings on 2019 minecraft retiree's?

Is anyone else tempted to go all-in on harry potter castle? I feel like investing in harry potter castle is like showing up to a casino and always being dealt black jack. Hard to turn down.

I'm still buying some HP sets, but I'm trying to figure out how much backlash and fallout there is around J.K. Rowlings remarks about the Trans community.

I just like to think anyone who cares about that stuff doesn't have time to read or build LEGO.

this type of thing can have varied outcomes in terms of resell....but I don't see a downside.

either it's not a big deal w/ no effects or it becomes a big deal, depresses supply and triples value

Are you joking? She just said the truth, only idiots with brainwashed heads could have a problem with it, and only double idiots will decide not to buy HP sets due this - maybe 0.01 % of potential customers.

Huh?  The trans debate is nothing but identity politics. Those buying into the debate are stooges.

Can we please stop with that? Avoid diving further into political opinions on this thread? General question asking if the backlash will affect investment potential of the Harry Potter sets doesn't bother me

I wouldn't lose a wink of sleep over it from the perspective of Lego reseller.  Every one of us is a complete a-hole in one way or another.  The fact that she appears to be an a-hole of some variety when it comes to the trans community and was stupid enough to show that side of herself publicly does not, in any way, diminish the works that she produced...at least in my mind.

Uff, the fact that women menstruate is now a political opinion:) The world is going crazy.

Somebody asked whether the truth said by mrs. Rowlings can affect the sale of HP sets, i have just answered that normal person cannot be affected, so the investition is safe and 99.9% of the market will buy these sets, so we are within the topic :)
