Building LEGO

Talk about the builds you have done. Were they fun, difficult, do you recommend it? Please share!!!

  1. The season of scaring is not for another few months but I figure we could pool some ideas together on what would be cool to feature in a custom Halloween Town in the meantime and even continue afterwards for years to come. I think we all know the Monster Fighters sets are a given for this epic diorama so what I am really shooting for is more about unique build ideas or special scene setups over 'straight-from-the-box' designs. I should give gratitude to Alpinemaps for the inspiration from conversation in the "What did you build today?" thread. Alright here's an idea to start. Each Escape from Mirkwood Spiders set includes two of those spider sacks and a tree to hang th…

To think I was born around the middle of this line's run, and by the time I would have been old enough to start it quietly retires. Imagine an original theme running for a good decade before heading off into the sunset. Also imagine being limited to three colors of red, blue, & yellow for a build with the occasional white and green for accents or foliage.

  3. Here is this channel's second display collectively showing off LEGO Town sets from 1985-1989. Additionally, here is the first layout with LEGO from 1964-1984.

Based on a classic age where tantalizing tales of science fiction and pleasing aesthetical forms of art came together to create a captivating concept of an alternate future utopia about ray guns, star travel, hulking robots, and invaders from beyond, these builds capture this essence of a "retro future" in all its delightfully quirky charms. While many if not most of the designs could hardly be considered practical or efficient by today's real world standards of technology and leisure, nevertheless much like a vintage car what matters is the look of the ride itself. Battle for the Moon: American light tank on patrol Battle for the Moon: USMC mech bay, Mare Nectaris se…

  5. Who knew LEGO's Microfighters 'chibi' style would have inspired a new breed of builds? (Or how about this CUUSOO submission from a year before LEGO unleased the Star Wars Microfighters upon the world.)

  9. I’ve been working on the new AT-AT and I’ve got an issue that I just can’t figure out. On step 111 it acts like I should just be able to push the belly down onto the frame but when I put the belly in place it just sits there. It’s so loose if I turned the frame over it would just fall right out. I can’t see anything in the manual or on the frame that should hold the belly in place. If you can help I would really appreciate it, this is driving me nuts

I was actually going to post a question about what the difference was in certain shades of blue (like Maersk blue compared to medium azure) but instead I found this image comparing most of the blues to blue-greens Lego has used over the years. I find it interestingly helpful and thought you may too. >Lego Blues by cjedwards47, on Flickr (from left to right) Sand blue Dark turquoise Light aqua Bright light blue Medium blue Maersk blue Medium azure Dark azure Blue Dark blue And the tiles are Sky blue, which appears to be the closest match to Medium azure.

When building a set do you apply the stickers if the set has them? Curious as to what others do.

  13. So I'm about to finally start building out my lego city and I just realized that SAH has limits on the train tracks and road plates... I guess the expectation is that you need to get more at a physical location or another retailer. Seems odd to me, but what do I know... either way it got me thinking if there are cheaper ways of getting these items outside of the traditional boxed items at a 20% discount or so? Is pick-a-brick route a viable/cheaper way, other options? Before I invest too much time and $ in this stuff figured I'd check what others have experienced... thx!

  14. This will sort of be a "progress" thread so i will continue to share pictures through the process. Wasn't sure where to post this, but this seems to be a good spot for now. As many of you know i wall mounted my bricklinked 10179 and posted it on these forums, it was a fun endeavor and a great way to display the monster. I've since moved to a smaller condo and now more than ever do i need the room. So i plan to (try) do the same with 75192. I managed to pick one up in store lining up at 6am or so and being 5th in line when my local store (Sherway) got a restock. After about a week i have finally finished building it, and now it's time to start brainstorming ho…

Does anyone have any recommendations on LED light kits? I have seen the following, but not sure on their reliability. http://www.brickloot.com/products/lego-detectives-office-lighting-kit http://www.liteupblock.com/unlimitshop/ http://www.brickstuff.com/ Any input would be appreciated.

Ok, it is the holiday lull... unless you chose to ship FBM this year! So, a diversion is in order. I have been planning on building a city for a while, and it is nearly time. To be honest, I resell lego just to fund my lego city account. Our basement is almost done, (I will start building new lego tables in January) and I have an area, not as large as I would like, but much bigger than nothing! So I am building a tiered city, using Eureka Springs, Arkansas as my inspiration It. It is built into the side of an Ozark Mountain, and it very "tiered". I would love to see all of your layouts for inspiration, so post them below! I will try to update my progres…

Based on the former SF3D now called Maschinen Krieger ZbV 3000 (alternatively "Ma.K") universe created by Kow Yokoyama back around 1982 as a series made from kit-bashed models to tell a story, this collective of builds are meant to capture the unique style of this science-fiction realm with powered armor suits, rounded hover tanks, various aircraft and more. Further delving into this world of war, I am beginning to understand the attraction for the core concept. The hardsuits in particular have an inspiring air of familiarity. While there is an annual building month event every October called "Ma.Ktoberfest", this primary topic will highlight all these fan builds over tim…

  18. Hey Folks! Recently I've been displaying more and more custom creations (or just somewhat modified) Vs. actual LEGO designed sets. I guess I've just hit a point where i take more pride in something i have personally designed/fixed/added to. As many of you may have seen a few months ago; i made a large Jurassic World display with most of the JW sets (you can view that below), but as we all know - the JW sets other than the Dino's are pretty lame and not very screen accurate. So it started look a little kiddie on display with my 10179 and Pirate Ships and i took it down. However JP still is one of my favourite franchises and i felt bad not displa…

  19. A random browse to their site led me to a couple of designs which for some reason where not featured across the main page. It was only by an odd chance I even found these to begin with hidden on the instructions for sale page. Anywho, check out these digital renders of their latest items for sale.
