Odds & Ends

Whether LEGO related or just anything fun and interesting, talk about it here.

For anyone that has never played this before, the "Would you rather" game is where you are given a fictitious question or scenario with two different choices but can only choose one. Usually players give some sort of reason as to why they chose theirs as well. Typically not a Lego related sort of game but I have one at the moment that can be. *ahem* If given the choice between these two scenarios, would you rather.... Trade in your entire collection of Lego for a knock-off brand like Mega Bloks. OR Not be able to purchase or sell a single Lego for the rest of your life.

  2. I just bought set 6211 brand new in the box for my son and I have the instructions and box but there was a broken piece. I sent Lego a note and I need to give them the proof of purchase. The newer sets are easy to get the # as they are all on the back cover of the instructions but for this set there is a microscopic number on the last page starting with 45 but wanted to make sure that is what they are looking for. Thanks

So this may be more of a general build and lego philosophy question rather than an investing question: Question #1: I really want to Bricklink a grand lego EOL set like the Eiffel Tower, Taj Mahal, or the Statue of Liberty. Seems to be a pretty common desire for many builders. Do you believe something like this is a worth it in pure dollar sense, or is there always some piece or something that makes it a wash compared to buying it used online? Example on the Eiffel Tower, piece 3633 a Dark Bluish Grey fence piece is probably the biggest obstacle since you need 255 of them and they typically sell for .40 - $1.50 depending on your seller. (And who want to pay $300…

  6. I am not sure if i just noticed or they are in fact new but I see Kre-o released some GI Joe sets... I know LEGO doesn't do guns but i was hoping they would figure out a way to make this happen. (Even though hasbro owns kre-o and gi-joe.) This is actually shaping up to be a really interesting fight between two toy titans. LEGO has been creeping on Hasbro's number two status for years and now Hasbro is fighting back with the new release of Kre-o and getting some REALLY cool themes like Star Trek...Transformers and now GIJoe... Look familiar? http://www.toysrus.com/product/index.jsp?productId=18490356

Specifically I am talking about Legos that you open up and build and then are ready to pack them away after displaying for a while. Is it best to completely disassemble them before putting them away? Generally in the past I only take it apart just enough so that it will fit back into the Lego box, but still leave most of the parts assembled in case I want to display it again in the near future and not have to reassemble the whole thing. But my question is does it hurt the bricks at all for them to remain assembled for long periods, even years at a time? Does it tend to affect the tightness of the bricks in any way? I just want to know if I should be completely disass…

  9. I was just wondering what Legos you guys have found at thrift stores and rumage sales. I have not had very much luck over the years, I've only found the Red Beard Runner and a few Bionicles in all. Maybe one of you has found a huge hoard somewhere. :)

Do you guys know of any good site to trade Lego? Back in the day I used to trade some TCG cards in one forum, wondering if there's something like that for Lego.

Its baseball season!!! So we have a local radio station here in DFW that does a "Sock drawer prediction", where they make all their predictions dor how the season will end and put it in a drawer and forget about it until the season is over and go back and see how they did. So without further ado: AL West champ: Angels AL Central: Tigers AL East: Blue Jays AL Wild Card: Rangers AL Wild Card: Rays NL West: Giants NL Central: Reds NL East: Nationals NL Wild Card: Dodgers NL Wild Card: Braves Any other baseball fans here?

  16. Just imagine all the custom weapons/accessories that could be made for all of these. My favorite out of all of these is the Bear suit guy, I was thinking like a Bomber type head piece just in bear shape, wouldn't that be AWESOME!!! I also think that the Hunter could be a good one. Just a list off the top of our heads...

  17. Ed and I received an e-mail today from Josh at FutureAdvisor.com about getting some of our more creative LEGO builders here to build a better piggy bank. Here is the actual e-mail we received from him. If some of you are looking for a few extra bucks and think you design something that can win, it may be worth your time. I was wondering if you'd be interested in giving us a post to help promote our contest. We're offering over $2000 in prizes for a new and novel take on the old fashioned piggy bank. Naturally, we want the most creative entries possible, so we're reaching out to the Lego community since they have some of the most creative people. You can check out the …

I was recently interested in diagon valley set. Of course, I know it has retired. I still want to grab some at current price in secondary market because I do believe their value will increase over time if hold on to them longer. I just heard from one collector that he or she has more than 50 sets of this set. .....Is that how other collectors do or invest? I understand the concept of diversifying the investment. However, more than 50 sets?!

I'm in NYC this week for a quick 2-day trip, staying right in the middle of Times Square. I hit the LEGO Store at Rock Center and TRU in Times Square today. Some thoughts: 1. They're both full of idiots that are milling around and generally in everyone's way 2. For those of you who whine about TRU prices, you should see the markup at the LEGO Rock Center store 3. 6857 The Dynamic Duo Funhouse was notoriously missing from both. There wasn't even a place on the shelf where it should have been in either store. That the 6857 The Dynamic Duo Funhouse was MIA could be meaningless, as in DFW we seem to have plenty of these available. I wasn't looking to buy any, because …

Also please don't trash talk game if you're not interested... way too many MMO forums get ugly and ridiculous. I just wanted to see if anyone is as stoked as I am. Just trying to find peeps to hang with once it releases. Not wanting any negative arguments about what is better etc. What better peeps to hang with than my LEGO friends? Regards, Cody
