General Buying & Selling

Overall discussion on the buying and selling of LEGO

  1. So the results are in! I bought a DYMO 450. Super easy to get going and set up with labels for USPS. I cannot believe I ever used a freaking printer. This thing is INSANE! I thought I could also give people a little insight into my methods too. Feel free to suggest your improvements! So here are some starting points - I am all about efficiency when working so I do a lot of timing myself and taking statistics. So here you go: I ship an average of 12 things a weekday - about 20 for the full weekend or more. Most of these are minifigures and parted out sets or used sets I sell without the box. I use USPS for the majority of shipments obviously - first class. M…

Delete if not appropriate. Our friends 13 year old son is amazed by my lego stash and is a little lego crazy. He is also very bright and brought over a pad and pen and took notes on how to become a lego investor (to fuel his collection). His first ebay auction ever is live, and he set up everything (paypal, ebay. Etc) on his own, and did it 100% by himself. http://m.ebay.com/itm/141750896880?_mwBanner=1 Here is his listing, I'd buy it, but he would know it's me. Would be happy to return the favor to someone similar or help out. Thanks

Hey everyone, I tend to build and hoard Lego more than I sell it. This past year is probably the most I've ever sold Lego on Ebay, probably around $1,000 in total sales, which may not seem like much to some of you, but again I am an AFOL that loves to build and collect, and I don't get around to selling much. That being said I've never paid taxes on Lego sales, but in previous years I've sold around a couple hundred dollars in Lego at most. I feel I need to pay taxes this year though. How do I go about it? Do most people out there pay a sales tax on Lego sales? And roughly how much does it cut into profits? Anyone out there have info and experience with this?

Can you still print labels through paypal to Canada? I just completed a trade with a trader from another site and he never told me he was from Canada. I didn't find out until I looked at his return address. Can I still use paypal to print my labels and if so, is it still easy? thx

I was wondering if others have had to deal with this. I keep getting a message from paypal asking for my social security # and have yet to provide it. This is the newest message I received: We're asking for your tax ID number due to new IRS rules. Your tax ID number is one of these: - Your Social Security number - Your Individual Tax Identification Number - Your Employer Identification Number We'll use your tax ID number to send tax Form 1099-K to you and the IRS when the payments you receive exceed both of these milestones in a calendar year: Has anyone given their SS# to paypal or dealt with this? I don't sell enough for this and already p…

  7. How much will you be charged in fees? You'll find out after the sale is made. Your buyer chooses the "pay later" option... you get the convenience fee. Convenient!

Ok, so it looks as though I've been stiffed on a Taj Mahal through delcampe.net. In short, bought last Saturday, on Sunday had a re fund being processed, had an email today saying its failed. Had tried emailing the seller through delcampe and PayPal (both different email) and directly through both sites but no response. The delcampe email no longer exists and their store is now empty. So...........anyone had any luck in getting their money back? And to add insult to injury, just did a search for the image and it popped up on some Hong Kong Pinterest style site!!! FFS!

I am a seller on Bricklink with a small number of sales - one a month or so and have used paypal for payment. I have always in the past received a message from paypal with a subject like "<person" send you <amount> , and the body just provides the amount and any note. When looking at my paypal account there is (as expected) a deduction of around 3.4% from the payment. This week I sold a small item on Bricklink and got a different email from paypal with a subject line "You've got money" and a different content - but this time it shows a transaction fee in the email - and it a was 9.1% fee. Wow - on their fee information paypal say it is 0-2500 (or somethin…

I went to my paypal site and was greeted by "You've reached a limit for how much you can send, receive or transfer. See how to lift your limits". I have never seen this before and I barely sell anything. I basically use paypal for payments linked to my credit card. I don't trust paypal with any bank account. So in order to use paypal, I have to link them to one of my accounts? Does anyone know what exactly is this "limit" I reached? Did I print too many labels for $2?

Is anyone else having issues with their paypal account? For the past two days the transactions on my activity page will not fully load. Only the last 10 or so transactions show and then the last line says "unknown" Called paypal and they said it was a known issue for some accounts. They suggested clearing cookies/cache - did not help. They also suggested using a different device, which I did, but the same issue appears across all devices.

...I was checking out what's new at my local Lego Store yesterday and decided to fill a small cup from the Pick-a-Brick wall... an employee saw me and said that yesterday was the last day for the "old" price for both small and large cups... starting today, the price of both cups would have gone up... how much, I didn't ask as I scrambled to fill several more cups... no wonder (first time I saw it), a couple other employees were emptying out some slots for "new" parts... ...can someone confirm this?... if so, is the price increase just for stores in the US or all over?...

$200 for a 20lbs lot. Has 3 large grey base plates as well, Briefly went through the lot and seen about 30 mini-figs. Didn't have any boxes or much manuals. OK I think I've overpaid for this, but at the time i thought it was a good deal and besides the kid wanted to sell his Lego to buy an Xbox. Will post some pics once I get it sorted somewhat.

  18. Hi everyone. I just wanted to share with you the several vintage 70's lego sets I have up for auction on Ebay. These sets are incomplete but come with boxes and instructions for the most part. Believe it or not these were given to me by a person whose husband passed away and she did not want anything to do with the legos that he had. They were pratically almost placed in the trash until they were rescued. Check them out if anyone is interested in having old vintage legos for display. Hi all, I couldn't find a thread along these lines, so thought it would be worth starting a discussion. Have many of you run pop-up shops before? I've run a number at local LEGO shows/toy shows, and figured there may be a lot we can learn from each others experiences. I've gradually grown my main popup over 5 years, now running a ~8m frontage and two registers. We typically have 3 staff to run the space, and use Vend as our POS as it's fairly easy to upload by excel stock files and manage payments etc. I actually didn't manage to get any photos of my last big show, but here's some from a small show we did earlier last year and the year before. I've see…

I am a small ebay seller (with around 150 positive feedback). Even though this person gives me a positive feedback, but a negative comment. I am afraid it will affect future buyers to buy from me. What can I do about it?

Hey All, I am recently getting back into the buying/ selling game. I came across a Lego collection that looks like a good opportunity. I would appreciate any thoughts. I haven't physically seen it yet and the seller only has a picture of what is included. Everything is stated to be used and complete. I will check if I get to see it, of course. The lot includes many of the Indiana Jones sets, Queen Anne ship, some older Star wars sets (Tie bomber, Older Sail barge) as well as the Eiffel Tower. The seller is thinking 1k for the sets and 500 for the tower. I know the tower used can go for 700. Without verifying the lot I was initially thinking 1k for…

So I just purchased 152lbs of LEGOs for around 4.00-5.50 a pound. My initial plan was to put them up on craigslist for 10.00 a pound and have a garage sale and sell them for 10.00 a pound. In the 152lbs I purchased there is a definite guarantee of a complete theme set of Indiana Jones(all the sets). There are also Harry Potter sets, I can see the towers for Hogwarts and just a bunch of familiar looking pieces I have seen from licensed sets. My question is, should i just sell them for 10.00 a lb and try to make a quick flip or should I take the time and try and skim through the pieces finding the Indiana Jones sets and possibly Harry Potter? It seems the used prices …

http://www.brickpicker.com/bpms/set.cfm?set=76013-1 When I looked at the Lego 76013 'The Joker Steam Roller set', I was astounded by the retail price difference between Europe and the US. If I convert the Dutch Price of 64,99 euro's to dollars, (64,99 : 0,725) the outcome = 89,64 dollars! It isn't far off to say that the price in The Netherlands is almost double of the US price. I cannot think of a good explanation for this price difference. I think it's unfair of LEGO to the European Customers. Has anyone got an explanation for this?
