I recently saw the light and switched from iOS to andriod with a new note 4 installed the ebay app, and got ka-ching notifications all night and drove my wife crazy. I looked in the app and turned on quiet time from 10pm to 6am, but now I don't get any notification sounds at all. Andriod retarded, so help me out, I turned something off somewhere. p.s. not getting the nice Paypal noise either

Kid is in 9th grade and interested in computer programming/science. He is currently taking a web programming course and is participating on a school team in the 2014 picoCTF. Future courses offered at the school are additional web programming, Java, Advanced Java and AP Computer Science. His home machine is currently an older Quad core, 3 Gb Ram desktop running Windows XP. It doesn't seem to be keeping up any more. I am looking for suggestions of system requirements for a new desktop or laptop for him to use over the next few years in these courses. Reading through the forums, it appears that many of you are well versed in this area. Thanks

So I'm in the market for a smartwatch, I've narrowed it down to either the Moto 360 or the Galaxy Gear S. Anybody have any input? I've been researching for over a month now but would like to hear what the tech heads here have to say. Thanks in advance!

First time trying to use the heat this year (electronic-ignition furnace), and it just isn't firing up. It goes through the 3 attempts and then switches off. The igniter lights up, but no flame whatsoever (and yes, the gas is switched on).

This certainly won't hurt the value of the LEGO ships, especially some of the lesser known ones like the Y/A/B-Wings and maybe even some of the TIE Variants. Who knows how well they have aged, but these two games were way ahead of their time and fantastic back then. Old guys like me rediscovering them (and their kids, and a new generations with Rebels and new Star Wars movies) could be a nice side boost to the starfighter kits. Though quite frankly, I don't really care how it effects LEGO prices. I am pumped they are doing this. Now to find the time to actually play... http://kotaku.com/x-wing-tie-fighter-are-finally-getting-digital-re-rele-1651470045?ut…

Is this model worth getting for $300. I never knew TRU sold ipads and I still have a ton of giftcards paid for @ 90% face value. Or should I just get her the newest version? She will bascially be playing games and doing Facebook. Thanks for any input on the topic. Cheers, LD

This probably belongs in the "other things we invest in" thread but that has turned in the "investing in Frozen" thread... I want to know who is going to invest invest in the largest IPO to date this Friday? Anyone else betting the house on BABA? Why or Why not? I am putting as much cash as I can muster ASAP b/c I have no idea how you could go wrong with the largest retailer on the face of the planet and they are just starting to really grow. (They are barely international at the moment.)

James Bond Villain Richard Kiel Dies at 74 Richard Kiel, the 7-foot-2 actor who most famously played the villainous Jaws in two James Bond films starring Roger Moore, The Spy Who Loved Me and Moonraker, and also appeared in Adam Sandler comedy Happy Gilmore, died Wednesday afternoon in a hospital in Fresno, Calif., three days shy of his 75th birthday. TMZ first reported the news. The actor had broken his leg earlier in the week, but it is not clear if that event is tied to his death. Kiel had lent his voice to a James Bond videogame in 2003 but more recently had voiced Vlad for the animated film Tangled in 2010. Before his appearances in the Bond film in the mid to l…

In the interest of this post, and me being a huge fan of the TV show LOST, I thought I'd start a topic. I loved the show. I loved the mysteries. I loved the answered (and unanswered) questions. I loved the endings. For me, LOST was one of the best televisions shows ever, and the ending was perfect. I also get that many people either didn't like it, didn't like the mysteries, or didn't like how the show ended. So, let's chat. I doubt I'll change any minds, but I'm always willing to talk about the show.

http://www.usatoday.com/story/tech/2014/08/20/computer-virus-data-breach-ups/14365491/ Some customers of The UPS Store may have had their credit and debit card information exposed by a computer virus found on systems at 51 stores in 24 states. A spokeswoman for UPS says the information includes names, card numbers and postal and email addresses from about 100,000 transactions between Jan. 20 and Aug. 11. United Parcel Service Inc. said Wednesday that it was among U.S. retailers who got a Department of Homeland Security bulletin about the malware on July 31. The malware is not identified by current anti-virus software. The company is not aware of an…
