General Collecting and Investing Forum

Overall forum on thoughts, stories and ideas for collecting and investing your Legos.

  1. Was just wondering people's thoughts on whether there is any added value in listing/selling sets in themed group. What do I mean by this? Just say you have all the City Mining sets, ie 4200-4204+poly. Is it better to sell individually or to sell as a complete set? Anyone had any experience with this type of thing?

  2. For example, with Wal-Mart clearing out most of their LOTR and Hobbit stuff, is this the end of it on the shelves at Wal-Mart, or do they bring back the sets at the Christmas season? It seemed to me like some the LOTR/Star Wars sets were discounted heavily after Christmas 2012, and then the same sets appeared back on the shelf in early spring, and are again being discounted now. How/Why does this method work as a retailer?

  3. Other than Christmas, Easter is probably the next best holiday for giving and receiving Lego. Was the Easter Bunny kind to your house this year? Our kids made out pretty well. Other than the usual baskets full of candy and dvds, they received the following Lego sets... tmnt lair shredder bike kraang escape friends soccer practice ninjago weapon forge poly easter bunny figurine How about you? Happy Easter!

I ordered several PFs to build ultimate 42009(fully remote control ). The battery box 8881 which is 7$ was part of that. The interesting thing is Lego LEGO Shop at Home sent me 8293 the whole motor set(30$) instead. Also I got something like this . Any thoughts?

  5. Does anybody think lego will surprise us with another big set anytime soon because there haven't been many big sets out in last couple of years for example another huge star wars set would be nice for the people who can never get hold of the old sets.

  6. I know majority know about this, but maybe some will find it useful, especially is this for us poor EU users trying to ''fight'' the privileged US EU Amazon online shops compared prices! It is way less work with this If this is already somewhere feel free to remove the thread.

Don't know if anyone noticed, but I heard of it earlier this morning. You can now build with LEGO Bricks on Google Chrome. It's pretty simple and the bricks and colors are limited, but it's kept me entertained for HOURS!

Hi there? I buy TONS of Legos for my nephews but only recently started investing in various lego sets. I am curious how people store their sets!? I am not really interested in displaying them so do you wrap them up before putting in a box which in turn goes in the closet or what are some of the other ideas you have? Thanks in advance for your advice- Kuta

  9. Some of the sets come with posters, collectable cards, comics, etc. I'm just wondering if there are any sites that have pictures or lists of what is included in each box. The used lot I bought a few weeks ago has all the extra stuff, but I don't know what belongs to which set, and I'd like to piece it all together!

Just wondering if there are any value for commemorative Lego sets. I have a Hawaii Lego store grand opening commemorative set. Only 85 pieces but its probably rare. Any body have ones like this from other Lego stores?

I just went to the Kidsfest here in Houston. It was a lot of fun, but it's definitely more for kids than AFOLs. Some interesting notes: 1. At the Chima booth they gave free Razar Speedorz. That's a $15 value, not bad! Of course, they had tons of them, so I'm guessing that's the speedor they're having the most trouble selling. 2. At the challenge area they gave tie fighter #8028 polybags ($4 value). 3. The store had the B-wing on sale for $150, hoth for $70, and the y-wing for $35 (each about 25% off I believe). not great, but not bad if you missed the big may 4th sale. 4. The store also gave the iron man polybag AND a legoland Florida ticket for free …

Hey guys I am trying to find out how to get information on exclusive polybags. I have visited brickset and realize you can find some info under theme by year, but I would like to know how I find out about these exclusive polybags before they hit shelves. Great example is Gandalf polybag, which I believe was an exclusive to Target or Walmart. How would I know if more are to be released and where they are headed? Any ideas?

Hi, Sorry if this is in the wrong section or not allowed. I have an old collection of Lego that's sitting around gathering dust and was wondering if I were to upload some images whether anybody could help me out at all in identifying anything of any value. Thanks.

  15. Jason at The Brick Show just notified me that they posted the lastest installment of their investing segment based on our data. Its a great watch like always. Take a look! Its also posted on our home page

  16. http://www.walmart.com/ip/Lego-R-Star-Wars-Empire-Strikes-Back-With-Mini-Figurine/22907069 $8 (+free shipping) for an interesting looking lego movie + a darth vader minifig. Vader alone goes for $10-15 on Ebay. Seems like a decent buy.

  18. The San Diego Comic Con(SDCC) is this Thursday through Sunday. If you are one of the lucky people to have a chance to attend, make sure you head over to the LEGO booth and buy up some collectible sets and displays they usually have for sale. These items sell for a couple of dollars and re-sell for a couple of hundred...LOL. For the rest of us, start scanning the EBAY auctions for collectible items.

I'm going on holiday to Disneyworld in a few months, is there anything that would be better to get over there rather than the UK? I'll be going to the Lego shop in Downtown Disney and also the Legoland. Have booked an extra 25kg suitcase for the return trip Thanks Mark

Hello New member who joined up to get some pricing on my old sets. I have about 19 early 90s sets of Castle/Pirates and am wondering if now is a good time to sell. Am new to Lego investing, and would like to let the sets go and invest in something else. Do you guys think now is the best time to do so considering the popularity of Lego collecting at present? Will their worth just keep increasing with time? Thanks.

  21. Started by Tilted,

This is the first time I've sold a set that I have purchased multiple times at different prices, so I'm wondering if I should calculate the average cost or opt for a method like First In First Out. Any thoughts? Thanks in advance.

Hey all, If you don't usually check out the blogs, just an FYI that I posted up a blog with a trip report and tons of pictures from Brickcon 2013! Really cool event. http://community.brickpicker.com/blog/50/entry-431-brickcon-2013-trip-report/ Did anyone else here end up attending? Maybe I met a Brickpicker and didn't know it?

  23. By the time you pay for packaging, postage etc have you made good profit? What Lego item made you the most profit (you don't have to say how much if you don't wish to)? What do you think are the modern equivalents of Cafe Corner, UCS Millenium Falcon etc?

  24. Started by jhl115115,

Should I sell my cafe corner box for $182 or hold onto it? I don't plan on ever selling it. And too. It's just a box but the original modular... tough decision.. I have it listed for $350 but nobodies biting. I want to sell it cause I just bought 10179.

Bought two funhouses for $40/each. Got the Jor-el that I immediately sold for $15 and a chima set that I sold for $7. (btw, how much longer are they going to keep giving these away?! I saw them for sale at Walmart for $15 last week) Add in 80 points or about $4 in lego rewards and those funhouses now cost significantly less.
