I took my boys to the Richmond VA Lego Fest this last weekend. I was really impressed that Lego kept my boys excited about building 4.5 hours. Lots of builds and games to play with no lines. My wife and daughter were supposed to attend but had to attend a soccer tournament. Boys day out was awesome. Enjoy the video.

  2. So I'm interested to see if anybody is brave enough to divulge their weirdest building habits/rituals to the community. I was building the Fire Brigade this morning when I got to thinking about this. For me, I make sure all of the brick studs with the tiny word "LEGO" molded onto it are facing the same way. I absolutely hate when the words are all jumbled together! So all bricks that go East/West I aim to the right, and North/South bricks I aim to the top of the base plates. Another weird habit of mine is that I spend an estimated 2-3 extra hours on any given set making sure all 1x1 tiles, studs, and bricks are perfectly lined up with the bricks below and above them. I…

  3. I just posted a small MOC in the brutalist Architecture style along with detailed PDF instructions to build it at home. I'd love to hear some feedback about the model or the directions I've provided for download! Newish to lego, might finally have enough bulk lego to try and build something other than the random houses the kids try to make. Question is: are there some basic modulars that can be built without too many headaches? I looked up instructions to the bike shop/cafe and I am limping together a pink one, is there a good starter building that I can sub pieces with?

  6. I was starting to sort my latest bulk lot today and while looking for an empty box I knocked over a large and growing stack of random instruction books that I've accumulated over the last four months or so. It got me wondering what others who sort any significant amount of bulk do with these. Do you sell them? I can't see much of a market for most of these. Some I file away in case some other bulk lot has the set but no instructions, but most just wind up in an ever growing pile.

I have found that since I have gotten back in to Lego that sometimes when I look at buildings I am thinking of how I could build them out of Lego. Am I the only one?

  16. When I first got back into LEGO, I promised myself I'd stick to the Architecture series (the theme that got me back into LEGO) and a smattering of whatever I found interesting in Creator Expert and Lego CUUSOO/Ideas themes. But...I've run out of stuff to build! I'm thinking I need to "up it a notch" and start building UCS/Modulars to get my fix. I need projects that don't take one afternoon or even a whole day to build. I need a build that requires me to go to sleep before I awake to *possibly* finish it that day...Or the next. So far I have the following: 1. The whole Architecture series minus Trevi Fountain that my parents have "hinted" not so subt…

The new Exosuit is too much fun to build, and now that TLG is finally getting people's orders out they can build and modify this wonderful set. Here are my modifications! Check it out! http://mocpages.com/moc.php/396276

  18. Hi Forum Members, Greetings from Sydney Australia. I am new to this Forum (the time post a topic) as I have recently started my hobby in Lego. I have a Lego Technic 9396 Helicopter set for a while and started building it yesterday. Unfortunately the round control turning knob does not allow me to activate the different functions of the helicopter. After reviewing the gear mechanism as compared to the instruction manuals. I noted that the gear (dark grey colour) on Page 67 of Book 1 does not engage the remaining gear mechanism and as a result, the turning knob does not control any of the functions. As per the instructions, the centre of this gear is in ro…

I thought it might be helpful to get a thread going for indecisive people like me. I would be open to others listing their "dilemmas" as well in order to avoid multiple threads. I ordered the Grand Emporium, but as I somewhat expected the order was cancelled due to it being over sold. I had decided that I was going to spend about $150 on a set to build this month, but I am having trouble deciding what to go with. The investment potential is at the bottom of my list, I am more looking for an enjoyable build and something that will look good on display. My hope is to build a city for my son as time goes on. Here are my ideas so far: Fair Ground Mixer Pala…

  21. Does anyone have any good advice on how to remove a helmet from a minifig head? My son shoved on a Kre-o Transformer helmet onto a Lego minifig head, and the fit is so tight I can't get it off no matter how hard I try. Does anyone have any tips/tricks on the best non-destructive way to remove it? I guess worst case scenario I can try to tear the Transformer helmet apart... But that's a last resort. Thanks!

What do you do with the extra parts that come with each set? I have been putting them in a Ziploc bag and putting them in the box for the set. When I was younger I would mix them in with my random parts. So, what it is your method?

  23. Started by Grolim,

With today's newer sets this isn't really an issue as they come in nice numbered bags that you open a step at a time. But when you get a large used set or heaven forbid you open a vintage set ( ) how do you go about the build process? Do you pre-sort following some routine or do you dump it in a pile and find each piece type as needed? Which way is faster? Do you do it your way for speed, or perhaps a more enjoyable build experience?
