  1. Some of you may know that I've undertaken a "30 day Lego challenge" where I'm trying to build a model or do a project to better understand the Lego system nearly every day for 30 days... In this project I did some experiments to better understand the relative proportions of the width of a brick to it's height, the width of a stud, the thickness of the wall of a brick and other relevant proportions. Overall, the system works well, but it is a bit weird. (ex: Why did they decide to make bricks taller than they are wide anyways!?) As such, I decided to "redesign" the Lego brick to eliminate some of the quirks of the system while making building techniques whi…

Dad 9516 Jabbas Palace 7965 Millenium Falcon 75020 Jabbas Sailbarge My dad said all of them are already ordered (kind of pushed him...) Will post pics tomorrow. Tomorrow I will have 62 sets in my collection.

  3. So truth be told...I've never built a lego set in my life. I'm 25. I decided that I needed to at some point. I have a fascination with winter and cabins and such this brought me to the winter village cottage set as it also has a practical sense under my Christmas tree. lets be honest here, I'm 25band not exactly gonna play with a ninjago set. So its Christmas eve. despite being a lego investor and loving money and knowing the potential this set will bring I opened one. I thought i'd build this whole set in a hour and have it displayed for Christmas. ....I have been humbled. A few hours later...I have an igloo and truck built. I'm also not much of a drinker at …

Tonight at the Lego store the clerk swiped my VIP card and then goes "huh? I never seen that before!" yeah, my account showed a negative points balance. After a call to customer service, turns out my card was "out of sync." Lego will mail me a new card with what they say is the appropriate balance. But i don't know if they're right. Moral is, keep track of your VIP points.

Hi, everyone! I have a lot of loose bricks (for us to build with). I try to keep them sorted, usually by type and colour. The problem with that is that it may not be practical and can slow down building times. For example: We have a big 30litre tub of white/pink/purple bricks (actual bricks, not plates or tiles or slopes). Looking for a 1x3 in there can sometimes take a while. My novel idea is to have a multi-container method with 4 colours and 4 brick sizes in 4 smaller tubs, but not quite the way you would expect. e.***. In tub 1: 1x1 white, 1x2 pink, 1x3 dark pink, 1x4 purple. In tub 2: 1x2 white, 1x3 pink, 1x4 dark pink, 1x1 purple. …

My Wife: "Ok it's Friday night. How much did you spend on Legos this week?" Me: "Well, technically, I think it's 'Lego'. I don't think you pluralize it." My Wife: "Really? Like how the plural form of 'moose' is also 'moose' and not 'mooses' or 'meese' or something?" Me: "Yeah, I think so." My Wife: "Okay, well how much did you spend on Lego this week?" Me: "I'd prefer to think about it in terms of how much I SAVED on Lego this week." My Wife: .... (eyes narrowing) .... "I'm going to Lululemon. I'll be back in an hour." Me: "Yeah that's probably fair." My Wife: "And you're watching Miss America with me on Sunday night. But we can play a drinking game. You have to take a s…

I got all of this from a friend at church last Sunday and forgot to share. I only had $6 on me at the time, and he accepted it, although I offered to give him more the next time I saw him. I priced it all at minimum on BL and came up with a figure of $77... An den of sinners indeed!

Hi all, Don't know if this is the right place to post this. But I just made my very first sale! Flipped a Mos Eisley for $501 on eBay. I started out with an investment of $2,000 to get my feet wet and explore this as a hobby. I'll report back with all my noobie mistakes and ROI when I've sold them all!

Aside from an investing perspective/CAGR...is there a set you want for your personal collection/interest that you just missed out on? At the moment mine would be the Medieval Market Village, I could always buy it on the secondary market but just wished I started this Lego hobby sooner! Anybody wished they had a retired Modular set? P.S. any local Canadians within the GTA that has the MMV set...PM me with your best price or possible trades. Thanks.

I just bought set 6211 brand new in the box for my son and I have the instructions and box but there was a broken piece. I sent Lego a note and I need to give them the proof of purchase. The newer sets are easy to get the # as they are all on the back cover of the instructions but for this set there is a microscopic number on the last page starting with 45 but wanted to make sure that is what they are looking for. Thanks

  15. Hi all, I'm in the process of putting together a Lego Star Wars (original trilogy) minifigure display in an Ikea Ribba frame. The layout I'm thinking is the same as the attached image, which houses 16 minifigs. Alternatively, I could go 3 x rows of 6 for 18 minifigures. Now what I can't figure out is exactly what minifigures to display! I've made the following shortlist: Luke Skywalker Obiwan Kenobi Princess Leia Han Solo Chewbacca R2-D2 C3PO Lando Calrissian Ewok Boba Fett Darth Vader Stormtrooper Scout Trooper Emperor Palpatine Yoda Tie Fighter Pilot Royal Guard X-Wing Pilot Admiral Ackbar The only issue is that's 19 minifigures! So If you could only choose 16 (or max…

I imagine we have some computer guys here that can help me. My pc is no longer picking up any wifi signals. I turned my computer on this morning before work and everything was working fine. Just got home and I have no connection. My wifi dongle which is just connected via usb isn't picking up any signals at all. Along with my wifi connection, there is usually a couple of other ones my adapter picks up. I looked at my device manager and my adapter is registering at "unknown device" with zero drivers. I am typing this on my laptop and all my tablets are able to connect to my wifi. Is it possible my adapter crapped out on my? How should I troubleshoot this?

  18. Harvard Business Review Press just published a book (newly listed on Amazon Feb 11th, 2014), written by two consulting executives of Red Associates, who work with Fortune 100 corporations to improve their decision making processes and their understanding of their customer base. One of the companies they consulted with was TLG. The wording is a little vague, but I think the book includes a case study of their time working with TLG. The following is an excerpt from Amazon: Through compelling case studies and their direct experience with LEGO, Samsung, Adidas, Coloplast, and Intel, Madsbjerg and Rasmussen will show you how to solve problems as diverse as …

Did anyone else get the new Winter 2014 catalog yet? There is a very noticable change in page format in this catalog. The sets are all in closely aranged boxes which look much sleeker than the old format. However, most sets have lost the description paragraph so that more sets can be included on each page. Only the large sets have paragraphs. Also, there were only two spreads covering Star Wars Lego! Does anyone else remember back in 2007 when the catalogs had seven or eight spreads of Star Wars! Those were the days... What are your thoughts on the new catalog?

There is a new website called New Elementary that goes in-depth about what new elements Lego is releasing and which sets they can be found in. I found out about the site way of Brickset in this news post.

  22. Who knows... With another Indy movie is made, maybe we'll get another Lego Indiana Jones line. If SW Ep 7 is as good as it appears, another Indy movie would be nice especially if it doesn't contain flying fridges, giant ants and aliens. We prob need JJ along with Kasdan at the helm http://www.superherohype.com/news/339785-new-indians-jones-movie-confirmed-by-lucasfilm As part of their June Star Wars cover story, Vanity Fair had a chance to speak with Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy about Star Wars: The Force Awakens and got her to confirm that a new Indiana Jones movie to relaunch the franchise is in the cards, although it’s not so…

  23. New Elementary posted a link on their facebook page to a huge update of new parts which were recently added to the Brickset database. This includes completely new elements, and existing elements in new colors.LINK: http://brickset.com/parts/new-03-06-2015I also did some analysis to see which parts are most interesting for fellow LEGO Architecture enthusiasts, especially folks like myself who enjoy the LEGO Architecture Studio set.I hope you find the new bricks interesting; I know I did. I'm especially interested in the new transparent plate with pin, which has a lot of potential uses.---tom

I came across an interesting website today. This website is in the funding phase, but it seems like it could have good potential. The website focuses on trading instructions/pieces between sellers/creators. Here's the link: http://thebrickstop.com/ Do think this is a good idea?
