General Buying & Selling

Overall discussion on the buying and selling of LEGO

  1. I have been doing ebay for a while but I have been fine tuning things as i figure out which products sell better than others, areas where I can cut costs, find a more steady supply of products, try and find ways to scale but the one thing that i have yet to figure out if %^&*ing shipping. I seem to play the gambling game with shipping...trying to find that fine line between giving the customer a good, fair price on shipping and charging enough so I don't lose $$. I found the tool below which compares the various shipping options and their prices. Rumor has it that fedex and UPS can be cheaper for larger items... http://shipgooder.com/ The prices jus…

So I have a situation I am actually unsure what to do. I had a buyer inquire about an item asking some kind of dumb questions. Next day he sends me a message saying he wants to buy item, but can't because he has 2 strikes against him(I have my ebay set to block buyers with 2 or more unpaid transactions in a year.) He says he wants to pay today. Buyer has 3 total feedbacks, but one is a "negative" positive claiming him as a deadbeat buyer. The item is kind of expensive, $800. Should I let him buy it or not. I am 50/50 at this point.

Well it is with a sad heart that I have to “take a break” from the Lego investing game. My wife and I are trying to save up to buy a house and I’m going to try and sell a good amount (or all) of my collection for a down payment. If you are interested in the whole collection please message me and I’ll send you the spreadsheet with sets and quantities. I haven’t had too much experience selling lego (primarily using as an investment) so I don’t have an exact pricing break down but if you are interested in individual sets I’ll do my best to sell them cheaper then anywhere else. Current best offer locally for the whole collection is $11,000. I am accepting best offers for the …

This may be a stupid question but it was difficult to search for... I'm in the UK so generally look for any offers in Pounds Sterling (£), however seeing an offer for a set in Euros (€) on the French Amazon Store i thought i would have a look. In the UK there is a 21% discount bringing the set to approx. £87, in France the set is discounted by 33% to approx. €80 which is approx. £57 with the exchange rate... My obvious problem is that i don't speak French, however, if i can overcome the language barrier i have a few of questions... Are Boxes and Instructions Universal? or are there language differences? Is it likely that Amazon FR would Ship to …

Wondering if anyone has used these before. http://www.amazon.com/Scotch-7907-2BP-Packing-Noodles/dp/B000GLS29E Conventional peanuts worked out well for me for packing items before the holidays. I've just about used up my stash and am looking at these as well as bubble wrap. The good thing about these noodles is they come in a brick form (now i've got your attention) as opposed to regular peanuts which have to be bagged up etc. FYI: For bubble wrap I haven't found anything cheaper than Sams Club. (which comes out to $.06/LF for a 12" wide roll) in store price.

I've seen a few people say that shipping a bigger LEGO set via UPS is cheaper than USPS. But whenever I compare prices, USPS is always cheaper. What am I missing? Are people getting UPS discounts somehow?

Hey guys, Quick question regarding Bricklink. I've bought a bunch of bins over the last few months and have gone through and sorted a good portion of them back into sets, but inevitably some are missing a handful of pieces and unfortunately some aren't available from lego any longer. I've made lists of all the parts I need but when I search bricklink its hard to find someone that has more then a few parts on the list. Is there a better way to do this or can anyone recommend a dealer that may have a vast selection of parts? Thanx

My son has sadly outgrown his Lego collection. We have listed it on eBay but it's not having much interest. I'm having people offer me silly amounts like £200 but knowing how much I paid for it I cannot let it go for such a low price. Any idea how much I could get for it? I will put the eBay listing number in the comments if anyone could help me.

What are they worth do you think? I really want one for the Missus. Sadly I didn't get one as a newer VIP member. Here are some ebay listings to watch: http://www.ebay.co.uk/sch/i.html?_nkw=Lego+4644591&_sacat=0&_odkw=4644591&_osacat=0&_from=R40

  15. I didn't see this mentioned anywhere before, but the original shipments of the Stagecoach Escape had an error on the box. The Barret character was incorrect in the areas of the box where it shows the names of the character. The original, incorrect box showed Barret with a different head and a red bandana, which didn't match the character in the set and pictured on the stagecoach on the front of the box. New boxes have been shipped to LEGO stores now with the correct image for Barret. I doubt there will be much extra value in the error box, but I know some people are in to that kind of thing, including me. The new, corrected box art is below.

  16. Hi there! I'm new here after stumbling across the site while researching my treasures I recently dragged all our old Lego out of the garage. It was originally kept for my son but to be honest he prefers breaking it all up and building elaborate models of his own, for which he has a large bin of odds and ends so the whole lot is destined to go. I have many sets from the 80s as well as a few from the late 70s and early 90s. All of them are unboxed but have the original instructions and are in excellent condition. I have a few questions as to the best way to sell these sets and would appreciate any advice you could give. So... 1) Is it vital that the sets are 10…

I guess if you sell enough you're bound to get burned eventually. I've been reading this forum with the intermittent reports of problems with ebay buyers and felt fortunate I have yet to be scammed. But today is my turn and now I turn to the good people of this forum for some needed advice about how to proceed with my first dishonest buyer. I sold a minifigure on ebay 4 month ago (12 bucks plus shipping) shipped item off and tracking confirmed delivery a few days later to a confirmed address. Today I get an email from paypal that they buyer is disputing the transaction stating it was an unauthorized charge. Pay pal wants proof the transaction was a…

I listed an couple eBay auctions of a parted out 2012 Advent Calendar. I decided to be a rebel and start the bidding at $0.01 as an experiment. Little did I know that it draws people so well!! Listing #1: 3 watchers, 5 bids Listing #2: 2 watchers, 1 bid Listing #3: 6 watchers, 3 bids Listing #4: 2 watchers, 3 bids Listing #5: 3 watchers, 5 bids These are the results of the listings thus far and they have been posted for less than 24 hours! I am sure that many of you already use this method, but for those of you who do not, give this a try for the next time you list something. Attracts bidders and watchers like poop attracts flies!

I went to my paypal site and was greeted by "You've reached a limit for how much you can send, receive or transfer. See how to lift your limits". I have never seen this before and I barely sell anything. I basically use paypal for payments linked to my credit card. I don't trust paypal with any bank account. So in order to use paypal, I have to link them to one of my accounts? Does anyone know what exactly is this "limit" I reached? Did I print too many labels for $2?

  21. Mailing off my first sale on eBay today. Should I insure it? The item is worth $200. The address is confirmed and I'll get tracking number of course. I'm new to this so am wondering what people think about insuring the items they sell on eBay if they are higher dollar amounts... I've read some interesting posts on how to save costs with an eBay business. Curious to know if people choose to save costs by not insuring or consider it a necessity. Thanks for your input!

  24. Hey, guys, I have bought bricks for MOC here and there and tried a couple of times using bricklink ordering some big chunks of pieces. In general, the sellers are quick in their shipping and handling and I do not seem to have any issue with any. Lately I order two $30-$40 lots and have found something interesting. This seller indicates the shipping/handling takes 5-10 days on the store page. I was okay with it. Given that the pieces I ordered are for some MOC I planned doing for Christmas gift, I placed my order in Oct. Then, I waited 3 weeks before contacting the seller that I did not receive anything yet and finally I received my package sent with a priority 2-day…
