General Buying & Selling

Overall discussion on the buying and selling of LEGO

  1. Hello fellow brickheads! My wife and I are approaching our 20th anniversary and we've come to the conclusion that kids are not in the cards for us. Why would I reveal something so personal in my first post on this site? Of course, it's because I'm about to sell off my precious collection that's doing nothing but taking up space. I'm thinking of ripping off the band-aid quickly by selling each theme collection at once, and space is by far the majority of my collection (my brickfolio isn't done yet, I'm still adding). All sets are used, most are 100% complete (of course I would detail which ones aren't), I have no original boxes, and some have no printed instructi…

Hey All, I am recently getting back into the buying/ selling game. I came across a Lego collection that looks like a good opportunity. I would appreciate any thoughts. I haven't physically seen it yet and the seller only has a picture of what is included. Everything is stated to be used and complete. I will check if I get to see it, of course. The lot includes many of the Indiana Jones sets, Queen Anne ship, some older Star wars sets (Tie bomber, Older Sail barge) as well as the Eiffel Tower. The seller is thinking 1k for the sets and 500 for the tower. I know the tower used can go for 700. Without verifying the lot I was initially thinking 1k for…

  4. Hello. After recently having a clear out in the house (nightmare!) amongst the crates upon crates of lego i used to own when i was younger I have come across set 6339 space shuttle with launch pad. Now after looking through ebay etc i haven't really had much luck in finding out how much it is worth Everything is in the box as most of it is actually still made up, the instructions are there as well. The box itself has seen slightly better days but is in no way overly damaged or falling apart. Just wondering if anyone here could give me some direction as to how much this is worth as I'd like to sell and give someone else the oppotunity with more time…

  5. So this morning I got a very official looking email from paypal using my first and last name. Said my account was limited due to suspicious activity and until I logged in and confirmed my account that it would be frozen. I of course didn't click the link and went directly to Paypal's site. Everything was normal. Now, I consider myself very internet savvy and also take internet security further than most. And this one had me going due to it being very well done and targeted specifically at me. I fear that due to the recent ebay hack this will become pretty common. so here is a heads up to be vigilant and if you receive any paypal phishing emails you can forwar…

I have a bunch of Chima Speedorz sets coming in. I want to sell them, but, usually I just sell polybags and minifigs. I had some questions about shipping speedorz. Does first class in a padded mailer work usually or will that risk damaging them? Shipping in boxes seems like it might be cost prohibitive. How is anyone else shipping them and what are you getting charged for shipping? Any help is appreciated....thanks in advance.

  8. What would you do if you sold an old set that was still sealed and the buyer receiving the set complains about missing parts? Since you did not open the set, you cannot tell if he is making up something or not. And it is known that there ARE factory sealed sets missing parts. So, do you address the issue of potentially missing parts in a sealed set in the product description already to be "sure" no one can complain afterwards? Or does LEGO keep parts even for old sets ready at the customer service long enough after EOL to serve those who bought some years after EOL anyway? Then there would of course not really be a problem with the missing parts... Because you…

  9. Hi I am still new to Lego investing and the forums , and would like to get some general knowledge on where and how to start. Where does one find 40% or more of a discount on Lego sets in Canada? Does anyone know when do real clearances on Lego sets (Like 40% or more) start showing up in Wal-marts , Targets and Real Canadian super stores? Which months do you think are the best for Lego clearance hunting? June July or August? how often should I check? (do not drive as of yet but working on it) Always end up buying Lego sets ( for investing) at U.S retail prices. I do go to North Dakota once a month but only have acc…

  10. My Lego orders from LEGO Shop at Home Canada are delivered by FedEx and more often than not the shipping boxes are banged up on a corner or squished at one end, etc. Anyone else have this problem? It's so bad you almost have to just laugh about it! I don't have problems with any other shippers that I use from other stores, so not sure how to change it. It would be really nice if other shipping options/other shippers were available on LEGO Shop at Home. I'm reluctant to report or complain to Lego because I don't want to get anybody in trouble, but how else can it be changed?!

Hey, is there a way to print your bricklink want list without images? I just want to print a checklist without the images. I don't see the option or I may be just blind.

  12. I'm pretty new at all this so this stuff is all new to me. brickworld Chicago is June 15th(Father's Day)..so I figured there's no better way to spend it with my wife and 2 kids playing with, seeing, and buying(tons ****** tons) of Legos. Then after ordering off lego.com for my darth revan minifigure. I got the ticket deal and figured it would be even better to go to the discovery center afterwards. But I'd like to know of any tips (besides bring all my credit cards lol) that would be good to know for either place. Like..best things to see or do. The must-see's etc. thank you all in advance for the help and advice!

  15. Hi everyone! Yesterday I was replying to a thread on what sets did I purchased previously and that had deep remorse for. Then that set me thinking, there are quite a number of sets I purchased with no regrets but I wished I hadnt open them and built them bcos they are worth a lot now!!! Here are some of my biggest regrets: 1) Queens Anne revenge, I bought only 1 box bcos I only started collecting Lego then and didnt think much of it. Now it sits on my bed headboard, pretty awesome pc but I wished I had kept it in the box considering I bght it at retail for SGD $190 and its worth ard $500 over here now. 2) Ninjago Fortress 2505, OMG this one... it saddens me e…

I have recently received couple messages from potential ebay buyers saying my shipping cost is too high. I would like to ship the item with tracking no matter it is large or small sets. Any suggestion which way I could provide a "cheaper" shipping? now with global shipping center available, I ship the package to the center. I would not know how much ebay global shipping center would charge from there. This potential buyer is asking me why my shipping cost is so much and other sellers could provide 28 dollars shipping to Nederlands and would like me to match it (for 21050 set). would appreciate any advice.

Hello everyone, I recently have decided to start purchasing bulk minifigures off of Craigslist. Being a novice LEGO enthusiast, I'm having a problem identifying the minifigures I am purchasing. For instance, I bought around 20 minifigures from someone and from doing a little bit of research, I can tell they are from the early 90's. My problem is that this person has switched the legs, torso's, heads, etc on these figures multiple times and I have no idea what parts go with what figures. Any suggestions on figuring it out? Thanks

So I haven't really encountered this and was wondering what others have done. I sent a package USPS priority last week. Buyer sends pictures today showing outside box and inside contents being crushed. I sent it to him MINT - lots of packing materials, all new shipping boxes. He sent me an FYI - not asking for anything but showing me the boxes have been clearly damaged on shipping. Am I responsible for this? Has anyone else encountered this before ?(i'm sure this must be common...) Any recourse for obtaining damages from shipper?

I had buyer's remorse so I returned a few sets this week. 1 - Hive Crawler (50% off) 2 - Swarm Interceptor (30% off) 2 - Black Zero Escape (30% off) I'm also planning to return the 4 AS I bought from Target (2 thru eBay) since they aren't retiring and I'd like to free up some funds for other purchases. Feel free to post your returns here. It could be buyer's remorse, better deal, damaged box, etc.

Good afternoon fellow Pickers. I come to seek ye ol advice. I have a decent amount of used sets that I need to sell. My wife has already begun the "every time I come in the bonus room there are more legos" bit. Plus I need to make room for a baby in August. So my question is... How do you ship used sets? Do you literally leave some assembled? If any one could attach pictures of how you do it, that would be phenomenal. I may post on CL and FB groups, but I don't figure to get what I want out of them. But it would at least be local. I will ultimately try to sell on eBay once I figure out how to ship so I don't lose money on shipping. Thanks in advance ever…

I have been selling CMF as a complete set. New and sealed. I am very good at feeling the package and identify them. I have not had an issue selling them as a set before until today. Someone opened a case (after 40 days of the sale) on eBay saying I sent him a duplicate minifig (one of not much value) and missed another one (which currently worth at least $15 by itself). I am going to take it as a loss. But that got me to think maybe I should not sell the minifig as sealed any more for my own protection. Have any of you have issues before? Thanks.

  23. Hi everyone--Happy Memorial Day! I hope that you don't think this to be a silly question. But since I am looking to start to sell used Lego on line, I am wondering if it is necessary for me to have some kind of insurance in case anything happens to someone who buys from me (small child choking etc..). I know it may sound silly, but you never know. Can anybody tell me what their thoughts are on something like this? Thank you

  24. Long story short, my wife and I are moving across the country and the amount of Lego I have is enough for a small truck...basically way too much to realistically take and the money can certainly help with moving costs. We won't be doing this until early next year, fortunately. I have always collected (aka hoarded) various sets and have never sold anything. Are there any suggestions / ideas / advice of offloading a lot of this stuff, sooner than later? I really don't have the desire to play the ebay/amazon game and even if I broke even on stuff, I'm fine; it's more of a matter of getting it out of here than trying to make profits at this point. I can ta…

I need to sell to fund some of my next purchases but I am wondering which of my sets can I sell in order not to go in the future smashing my head against a wall. The candidates I have in mind are: 41999 - I have 2 units, would sell one. 10210 - Only one unit. Kinda interested in keeping it. 10193 - Only one unit. Not too interested. 4842 - Only one unit. Do not take this away from my hands please. I know that 10193 is in a different ballpark as figures go, but it'd be nice to have some dough to fund my addiction future investments, which will be determined by what I sell. Thoughts?
