General Buying & Selling

Overall discussion on the buying and selling of LEGO

  1. Started by Goofball814,

So in another thread, there is a discussion on clearance stickers. How about removing "vintage" price stickers. I recently purchased a huge lot. Including 4 Black Seas Barracudas, 3 with boxes. 2 Skulls Eye Schooners with boxes. 3 Caribbean Clippers (2 with boxes). probably 30-40 classic city and 13 classic space set with boxes. All the boxes have Toys R Us and ShopKo stickers. Do you remove them? I think it adds character to these old sets. I think it's cool seeing that TRU sold the Black Sea's Barracuda for $89.99. But is that similar to seller as seeing a clearance sticker?

Starting up my store soon and need bags. What size does everyone recommend and where would be a good place to purchase them? I would be selling a variety of bricks and minifigures so probably need a variety of sizes. Thanks in advance for your thoughts.

  3. I have a 16 oz scale that I have been using forever and I love it. Whenever I had a larger package I would run to the PO weigh it and come home to print the label. Was never really and issue as I normally make 2 trips to the PO everyday. I am about to start selling some LEGO product and these little pieces weigh a ton! I am finally going to take the plunge and get a decent scale to sell larger items. I looked at Amazon, which of these would you recommend? Just sold my first item on Ebay in awhile and I'm fairly certain that my prior settings were to ship to only lower 48, but the winner is from Hawaii. Just need someone to confirm what it seems that I'm reading is that Flat rate Boxes will ship to all 50 states for the same price? Want to prepare myself for an additional charge now rather in the morning staring at the postal worker. Thanks

A few sets I picked up recently at Walmart have a round golden sticker, on the front of the box near the set number. The sticker says "Oppenheim toy portfolio best toy award gold seal". I don't know if this sticker was put on by Lego or someone else. It looks okay, it doesn't cover anything important, but I am not sure it belongs there. Are these stickers undesirable from a collector or investor standpoint? Should I try to remove them if I can do so without damaging the boxes?

  6. Hey everyone recently I listed a vintage display castle on eBay and it was a tough decision but due to a financial situation I have to sell it I'm just wondering what it's worth? Currently I have it at 2,000 buy it now or best offer. Does anyone know what something like this is worth? Or any information on it? Anything would help thanks!

I recently used FedEx to ship a large package. The process of dropping it off is a story in itself. In short, sneaking past a gate, going into 2 buildings where no one was working and then walking all over to find someone was quite the experience. With that said, when will I get charged for the package? I did not know when you print online it is supposedly an estimation? How do I even find out how much the total shipping will be? I do not even see any record of me printing the label in my FedEx account. The package has been picked and is on the way to the customer.

I'm going to be selling some incomplete sets soon where I took out the minifigs. What's the best practice in packing and shipping these to a buyer? Could I just throw the original bags into a padded mailer or a small box and be done with it? Thanks for any advice.

Hello, I started with buying and selling lego almost 6 months ago but there is a question that rises. At this moment, I have around 8000

Printing a shipping label tonight for an eBay order, and the address looks fine, but the name it is going to is: "New Identity". Anyone seen that before? I messaged the buyer--and hoping to get a response tonight, but thought I'd ask here in case anyone else has seen something similar. Thanks!

Hello people. I own a brand new iron man set 4529-1 which I bought for el cheapo from a webstore clearing out From the growth line in the USA I see this set does well. I'm living in the Netherlands and this set is very hard to get here too. I can probably get 3x the value I bought it for if I sell now. Should I or is this set expected to grow even further in value??

I'm not sure if there is anything worthwhile since they really raised their prices in the last week (TRU watch out) but I thought I would post this for anyone interested. You can save $10 off $50 by using the code SPRING10 at checkout. This coupon code is good through March 30. If they have another sale that overlaps this then you may be able to find some good deals otherwise I'm not sure but happy hunting.

My mother had a Lego Model Team 5540 sitting in a closet for YEARS. She gave it to my son today as a birthday gift. It is brand new in the box, one side-seal is broken and there are some minor scrapes/rips on the box but, not on any of the pictures. This isn't the light blue box but, the dark blue one with the flap that opens to reveal the inner plastic tray. I'm trying to figure out what the value of this thing would be. Based on the "Average" value, I see around $50, however, I've also seen numbers between $100-200 and there are some people selling them on ebay for $400-695 (which is nuts). My son only cares about the value on this because he is saving up …

So I just got into Lego as a hobby. I bought a 7965 MF factory sealed for $99 at my local WM. I noticed it's selling for upwards of $200 on eBay. I know you guys don't want to give away your trade secrets but I'd appreciate a little coaching on how to go about selling. Also talk me down off the cliff if you think i should hold the MF. I have experience selling various odds and ends on eBay. My plan would be to take the money i made and reinvest and rinse and repeat. :)

I'm going to be I Minneapolis for work and I was wondering if it is worth it to make a special trip to the LEGO store in the Mall of America or is it just the same as any other LEGO store? I am hoping that there is something at the Mall of America store that I can't get at my store or online. You know, like a specific store exclusive or a uniquely diverse pick a brick wall. Anyone know for sure? Thanks!

Has anyone had any luck doing a return with Zavvi? My order of of a single 31109 arrived in a thin cardboard box that had seen better days. The set is severely crushed along an entire side and front. One of the seals is ripped open. I decided I'd rather just return it. At first Zavvi wanted to offer me 20% off to keep it, but I declined. Then they sent me a return slipped that marked it as being returned as "unwanted" instead of the "damaged on arrival" option clearly on the slip. Unwanted meant the item had to come back in "like new" condition. After working with them to correct the form, I went to return and noticed the return address is in the UK. I'm in…

  17. Does anyone know in Europe where to get the boxes where lego ships their modulair buildings in? I think they are great but i can't find any on the internet.

Several of the June 1 Harry Potter sets are still listed as 'coming soon' on Lego.com. New 3-in-1 Castle is in same status... Did these get pushed back? New Specific date?

Good morning brickpickers! Fall is here and it's that time of year for a huge neighborhood garage sale. I would like to participate in it. http://www.huntcross.com/garagesale.html This thing is massive 100+ families. Get there early! However I have never sold Lego at a garage sale. I would suspect there will be many people looking for a deal. So how do I sell my wares at slightly below current market prices to reflect lower fees since I am not selling on ebay or amazon? I need to finish my write-up for what I will have available. My collection/hoard is extensive. I have multiples of many exclusives exo's, 10229-7, 10228-10, 10227-3, 1…

  20. I have had Lego as hobby all of my life, but it is only until recently that I am in the process of investing with it. I'm really new to it, and if possible I'd like to know recommended techniques to calculate the potential sell prices for custom build projects, like layouts, real life objects representations, and else. Thanks.

  21. This thing won't sell for even 100 euro under the Lego RRP. It is a retired set. People offering it new for 140 euro on BL. I have 3 of them, now priced at a loss for 195 euro. What is with this set that people don't want it?

  22. This is my 4th year doing this, and I've noticed that when the Black Friday deals were plentiful (i.e. last 2 years), there wasn't as much clearance items. Black Friday 2017 was pretty good in that I found lots of stuff at over 30% off, while many of the sets I liked were hovering around 20% off or less in 2018. However, I did like all the deals on the exclusives this year. It seemed in my first year, the deals seemed to be coming out of the woodwork after Black Friday and after Christmas. I wonder if it will be that way this year, with lots of stuff on clearance. Any thoughts?

  23. Just got a letter from Tesco regarding their double boost they do with club card vouchers. As we know Tesco have been hit hard with all the other lower priced supermarkets, so I imagine thats the reason for this. Come this May and June 2016 - It will be the last time Tesco double the value of your vouchers. So £5 becomes £10 etc. Useful of course if you buy LEGO from there. So get those purchases in between the 16th May and 26th June

  25. Started by doejaster,

Two quick questions that I'm hoping someone could give their opinion on. I've purchased a set off of Amazon Warehouse that I intend to resell (usually I use warehouse for my own builds). For once, this set shows no sign of having popped seals (just a very very damaged box). The box has a large sticker on it saying that it was "Amazon Warehouse Inspected". Anyone know if that means I can assume it was opened up? Second question, since I'll probably open this box up to verify the bags inside are all there, how would you mark this if listing it? I'd lean towards NEW because the Lego pieces are sealed up and never assembled. However, definitions for NEW oft…
