Black Friday vs After Christmas Clearance?

This is my 4th year doing this, and I've noticed that when the Black Friday deals were plentiful (i.e. last 2 years), there wasn't as much clearance items. Black Friday 2017 was pretty good in that I found lots of stuff at over 30% off, while many of the sets I liked were hovering around 20% off or less in 2018. However, I did like all the deals on the exclusives this year. It seemed in my first year, the deals seemed to be coming out of the woodwork after Black Friday and after Christmas. I wonder if it will be that way this year, with lots of stuff on clearance.

Any thoughts?

TLDR: it varies. By chain, by region, by store, by year, by day of the week.

Some Targets offered steep in-store discounts on 12/26 others didn't really start cooking until early January along with Wal-Mart. Barnes and Noble completely changed its clearance pattern (and now seems to have reverted back).

Walmart had ridiculous Jan markdowns around here. 70% off first order walkers & destiny bounty. I still don't understand why, these seem to be good sellers and have rarely been on sale. Hope they do it again.

Yeah, I plugged in my purchase dates into BP and early January was when I swept up sock at WM.

They also seemed to restock some stuff from DC just to put it on store clearance. Different from their usual pattern of clearing stuff just to restock it again.

Or Target's Quake Mech instant clearance cycle.
