General Buying & Selling

Overall discussion on the buying and selling of LEGO

    Started by Guest,

I'm 30. Played with legos till my early teens then forgot about them. Then the movie came out and now I want legos. But since they are so expensive and since I don't like to let people just walk with my money I'm almost certain I'm not buying retail, esp. not after seeing the prices at Walmart, Target, Toys R Us, etc. I'll likely search the internet until I find a decent lego let. But I've been at this for a week and still have to find a good deal. On amazon, for instance, there are a bunch of people trying to sell legos by the pound. But there is so much that is wrong with that business model that I don't even know where to start with my list of complaints: what i…

  2. I'm going to Florida Legoland and will also drop by Downtown Disney Lego store next week. What should I look for that's not easily found elsewhere? Legoland also gives 10% discount for annual ticket holder (which I don't have, and will cost $100 if I decide to buy one). Any advice is appreciated.

  3. I was able to acquire an Eiffel Tower with instructions but the box wasn't included. Does anyone have one to see / trade? As of last night, I only see one on bricklink. Heck, I would be very grateful and even will "kneel before Zod" for help.

Hello everyone, I recently have decided to start purchasing bulk minifigures off of Craigslist. Being a novice LEGO enthusiast, I'm having a problem identifying the minifigures I am purchasing. For instance, I bought around 20 minifigures from someone and from doing a little bit of research, I can tell they are from the early 90's. My problem is that this person has switched the legs, torso's, heads, etc on these figures multiple times and I have no idea what parts go with what figures. Any suggestions on figuring it out? Thanks

Hi everyone I'm new to all this so would appreciate some assistance please. I am am getting into Lego through buying bulk and separating out any sets based on instructions included in the sale. I am no doubt going to have some left over to create an inventory with. My question is how can I identify if I have any sets, or at least partial sets, from the bricks in my inventory? Along the same lines I've seen what seems to be quite a cheap bulk lot based on the per kilo price but there are no instructions included. Part of the description says there are Harry Potter, Indiana jones and a few other themes in there but how can I find out what sets there…

  6. I know a lot of stocked up before knowing that it probably is around another year. I am becoming more bullish so I decided to dump my stock. I got most of them around 80$. Well, they are sold out about everywhere. Ebay is trending up and up - now up to $160ish. I sold two for $160 last night. If you want to offload them ( as you should be able to easily get more next year) now is the time.

If you absolutely love polybags, and want 87 SW ones, feel free to look at this. Comes out to $242.46 in total which is roughly $2.79 per. $2.79 is a great deal for any SW polybags, but only think seriously about it if you have some serious ca$**** lying around and love plastic bags. Also comes with a 2 Walmart display boxes. Included: -18 8028 Tie Fighter -6 30053 Republic Attack Cruiser -43 30059 MTT -20 30056 Star Destroyer http://www.ebay.com/itm/LOT-of-87-Lego-Sets-with-Store-Display-Star-Wars-8028-30053-30056-30059-/221193262803?pt=Building_Toys_US&hash=item33802556d3

  8. So, lets pretend here for just a moment that one of the members here has a wife that is simply wonderful and wanted to surprise her husband with a birthday gift of a Lego Technic Unimog to have for himself. Let us also pretend that this item arrived from Lego with a different person's payment info on the invoice and that, upon inquiry, said wife purchased the item for cheap from ebay. Not that any of this has nor will ever happen to one of the members here, but just roll with me ok? Now, in that unfortunate event, what exactly would one say to the offending seller? Yeah, the person would want to send a well worded message saying you %$#@*@% pig! How could you do this?!…

Now I would not call myself a LEGO investor, I am just looking to sell my large collection of LEGO sets ( around 135 sets) and make some profit. I have a large amount of Indiana Jones sets including some of the bigger ones like Temple of Doom, The Kingdom of the Crystal Skull and Temple Escape and am looking for advice to see if it would be better to sell them now or if they are likely to grow on the market. I would really appreciate this.......Thanks.

  11. So I have had a couple people ask me - my store is currently on vacation. I am not - just contemplating what I want to do from here. A lot of the time and stress from a store is wearing me down and so I wanted to take a couple of weeks break to re-evaluate what I do, how I do it, and make it better and more manageable. Some people mentioned label printers earlier in another thread and I was intrigued. Looks like a good idea. Basically, from what I can tell, printers are thermal - no ink or toner. You just buy the label paper. You have to get the right ones for certain labels - still working on that info. Anyway - if you have one of these, please share yo…

So I have only been selling for a few months on eBay, mostly smaller things to learn, build feedback and polish my processes. So far I have done pretty good but one thing is becoming clear. Between shipping labels and packing slips one prints alot of paper. Currently I have a kodak inkjet printer and it works fine and cartridges are reasonable but have a smaller capacity. I am getting about 100 pages per cartridge at about 12 bucks a cartridge. So I find myself eying a laser jet printer as they can do give or take 5000 pages on a 50 dollar toner cartridge. The con is the much higher entry cost of the printer vs one I already have. But in the long run they are…

How do most of you that sell >20% of your items internationally handle shipping for items on ebay, where the combined purchase price can reach $150+ ? I've had a few orders now (Singapore, Greece and Russia) where the items seem to disappear for a really long time (20-35 days) and the buyers are usually most interested in blaming me, not the cheap shipping rate/company that they paid. I know that customs can take a while, but the latest order has been MIA in destination country for 29 days now. 99% of my international shipments currently go USPS First Class International since there is nothing else that competes for price. Is it better to reduce the quantity …

  15. Hi all! First time shipping a lego set internationally. Need to ship it out urgently but realised I ran out of the USPS transparent envelope (2976-E) which is used to contain the customs forms. I have a UPS transparent one sitting at home though. Does anyone know if I can use that instead or is USPS strict abt this? I've also scheduled a pick-up for my parcel - by any chance the USPS mailman will have any of these stashed in his vehicle? Really appreciate any help or advice here. Thanks in advance!

  16. So I have sold my fourth item internationally this month and had to cancel the transaction b/c I do not ship internationally. It's time I start. However, I do not want to spend 20 mins filling out customs forms for each item. I know ebay offers a Global shipping program but I would like to hear from those who have used it. PLEASE!! I know the global shipping program (GSP) is only offered to some countries, do the items only display in those countries? How easy is it really? I noticed someone on another thread said "If you prepack your items there is no reason not to offer international shipping" How do you offer two different prices for shipping? One for int a…

  17. So I recently purchased a large set (42055 - Bucket Wheel Excavator) from Target clearance section. Came home and clearly the box had been opened so I needed to inventory. Double checked the quantities of numbered bags and accounted for everything, all numbered bags, instructions, motorized parts. Everything was sealed except for the motor / switch board piece and ONE numbered bag. The numbered bag that was opened has a slight cut up at the top so there were a few loose pieces in the box that had fallen out of the bag. I highly doubt I had found them all...and I'm sure there is ONE missing or something. So question is, how do I sell this... will all the bags sea…

When investing in Lego sets is there any resale value difference between European and U.S. packaging? I noticed on the Euro Lego sets that there is less text printing/details on the packaging such as pieces count, disclaimers, etc. The Euro packaging seems cleaner and less clutter than the U.S. sets. I live in the U.S. and I am investing in the UCS series sets and was looking for any feedback on whether there would be any value difference many years from now depending on which packaging you own. Kind Regards, Casey

Hello people. I own a brand new iron man set 4529-1 which I bought for el cheapo from a webstore clearing out From the growth line in the USA I see this set does well. I'm living in the Netherlands and this set is very hard to get here too. I can probably get 3x the value I bought it for if I sell now. Should I or is this set expected to grow even further in value??

  20. I was expecting to be super busy selling things this season. I ordered all of my shipping supplies in advance, organized my inventory, posted it and have been waiting. The sales have been much slower than anticipated. I think it's likely due to what I'm listing but perhaps its how I'm listing, or simply that things will pick up this week. I've got the following items listed but have barely moved any: Mixels Series 1 Monster Fighters (Excluding the HH) Lone Ranger LOTR HD, UH, OF Creator Houses (retired sets)

  24. I'm going to be selling off a few of my sets. I'm looking for advice on shipping. Particularly, what is the most cost effective way to ship without damaging the product. Also how much to charge I looked at priority mail flat rate boxes but they seem sort of expensive. I see people charging 6 bucks for items that would fit in a $12 priority flat rate box. Also, does anyone have more specific advice for different sizes of sets? My thinking is that I need to have 5 different size boxes and shipping rates calculated based approximately on pcs - i.e. the 100 pc, 200, 400, 600, and 800 pc sets. I don't have anything larger than that yet. For simpli…

HOORAY!! i just sold my last Portal of Atlantis set from the Atlantis line. i think I may throw a party! i can finally wash my hands of that dog of a theme. it was quite a blemish on my brickfolio. i was sitting on six of those bad boys and it took almost two years to find six buyers. i wound up making about $20 each after costs. thankfully my entry point was low. good riddance!
