It's just my opinion, but I think that the early Space sets , called the 'Classic' series was what started Lego on its way to world sci-fi toy domination. Sets like the Galaxy Explorer #497 http://www.brickpicker.com/bpms/set.cfm?set=497-1 were launched right around the time that Star Wars hit the theaters and gave kids like myself the fancy space pieces we needed to build some fantastic Lego models.

Is anyone buying this theme? It doesn't seem to get a lot of attention on this site. I have had some bad experiences with the latest Space Police theme from an investing perspective (my son loves them, though), so I am staying away from the new Galaxy Squad. Is it unpopular since it seems to be geared more towards kids, and the kids are too busy with Ninjago, TMNT, and Chima? I was just curious what the general consensus was on this theme. Thanks.

Before Star Wars ended up dominating the world of Lego Space, there were plenty of factions hurtling throughout the cosmos. Even afterwards every now and again, Lego does release their own original Space theme (thankfully) but not quite as much like the pre "Lego Star Wars" era. Anyway, which groups of astronauts were your favorites? You can use this link to browse through them all.

Is this set a good investment? It was discontinued shortly after release and re-released as the Shuttle Adventure 10231 because it the build was too complicated or wasn't built well(something like that :-)). Prices seem to be heading upward. Any ideas?

MISB Lego set 487. Super Rare. How much should I pay? Help needed! Just was offered a fairly rare original 1978 Lego set. The Set is set number 487 "Space Cruiser" The set is in almost perfect condition, still sealed etc. Using the website www.worthpoint.com I could not find ANY sealed versions of this set that have been sold (on ebay) in the past ten years? Does ANYONE know if one of these sets has sold and if so for how much. None are currently listed on Bricklink, and as far as I could tell none have sold recently through there either. What do you guys think its market value could be, and how much should I pay for it? Any help finding this information would be…

Ok, I think this mini-set deserves its own topic. I'm not sure that US members are all aware about its existence. Remember the classic LEGO Space

When My son and I walked into the Lego Store and saw this set, we couldn't take our eyes off of it. It looks so cool and it appears to have tremendous play value. The only reason I was put off was the fact that it was a non Star Wars space theme and these tend not to do well investment wise. I will most certainly get a set to put together when I see a significant discount, but what is everyone's thoughts on this set for investment purposes?

Has anyone else noticed the huge rise in classic space set prices mainly from 1978 - 1987. This seems to be due to the Lego Movie and the character Benny. One of the things I do is to search out bulk lots, make up the sets and sell them on. But I have effectively been priced out of the classic space market. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/1-5-KG-CLASSIC-SPACE-LEGO-Parts-6980-920-483-924-487-926-928-6951-6970-6971-1593-/111450949415?pt=UK_Construction_Toys_Kits&hash=item19f2fe8727 This lot sold for nearly

I've been curious for some time about the history of the different moon logos on classic space figures. Is there any information about what sets the different types came in originally or if this was a switch made before/after some particular year? Moon space logo qualities I have identified: Gold Logo - Bright and vibrant Gold Logo Faded - Clearly was originally gold Gold Logo Faded all the way to White - again, clearly originally gold Dark Gold Logo - Typically only seen on red figures but occasionally on blue. Red Logo - Only found on red figures Seen in the second photo White Logo - Everything is so crisp that it seems impossib…

It would seem in a recent issue of the LEGO Club Magazine, at the end of a MONSTER FIGHTERS comic, we get a glimpse of the Insect-like enemies of the GALAXY SQUAD theme coming next year! First sighting of Galaxy Squad? - Brickset The names of the GALAXY SQUAD sets sounded very similiar to the INSECTOIDS from 1998-1999. I am so glad that the aliens are not simple redesigns of those. I had a couple of ideas of what they could look like, and it seems what they will be is pretty close as to what I was hoping for actually. A nice alien bug! Oddly enough, I'm reminded of the video games, Galaga & Centipede, for some reason. Hmm....Can't imagine why. ;…

The Brick Fan is reporting that the Galaxy Squad theme is officially retired and removed from the LEGO Themes on the LEGO site. If you want to grab some, Amazon has them on sale and get them before they are totally gone. http://www.amazon.com/s/?_encoding=UTF8&camp=1789&creative=390957&field-keywords=lego%20galaxy%20squad&linkCode=ur2&&url=search-alias%3Daps&linkId=VXJCAY2DS26J4J7T Toys R Us as well: http://www.toysrus.com/search/index.jsp?kwCatId=&kw=galaxy%20squad&keywords=galaxy%20squad&origkw=galaxy+squad&sr=1

Hi everybody, it seemed like everybody enjoyed my last video, so I thought I'd share our latest Galaxy Squad one with you guys. Unfortunately, LEGO didn't come out with a wave 3 of sets, so we took it upon ourselves to create our own new villain, the Hive Mother. My younger brother actually created it (and did a way better job than I ever could have) and we decided to make a 3rd movie with it. Anyways here's the link, we appreciate all the support so so much!

So i picked up these sets in a lot, all large sets complete with instructions. some small sets missing a few pieces. Some boxes are beat up but the larger boxes are in decent shape for being around for 35 years. i guess these are from 1979-1980?

Lego seriously needs to put out a new space line in 2013! If the Lego Group actually put a bunch of money and promotion behind a space line, like they did with Ninjago, it could do reaaaalllly well. For the kids, all that would be needed are separate planets with different elements and special abilities/styles. For teenagers, make some really BA action features and include good minifigures. For Adults, put something in the sets that will make them worthwhile in the future (maybe without jacking up the price $30) Another sub-theme of this could be mini fleets, since those seem to be really popular on Flickr. These are just empty thoughts, though. I think Lego could make a …

So I am pretty sure of you are aware of the Classic Space line, but if you're not, here's a bit of a crash course in the theme It ran from 1978 to 1988. It had 5 different types of Spacemen, including yellow, red, white, blue and the most rare being black, appearing in only 9 sets. There were 4 different types of Classic Space helmets, and atleast 2 were in production at all times. The gold printing was the first to wear off, then the white, and finally the red. The first helmets were very easy to crack, due to a thin chinstrap. All parts were printed to my knowledge, no stickers in this line! (I believe). So most of you guys have probably seen The L…

Anyone have any guesses as to why there is no Star Trek Lego theme? My only guess would be licensing issues. What say you?
