I think I read that US deaths doubled to 2,000 in two days. That's a really bad sign.

The next two weeks will be tough.  Governor Cuomo did say NY's curve was flattening and he thought they would peak in NY closer to three weeks because of the flattening.

I think there's a healthy bit of skepticism aimed at the Chinese government.  We can't trust that they've been truthful.  We don't actually know when this disease got started, how many people traveled out of the country before they decided to say something, what the curve looks like, what the deaths look like, or what their quarantine failures/successes are.

i agree that you have to be skeptical to the communists but numerous reports in last 7 days on cnbc, bloomberg, wsj  from multiple US CEOs all saying china has this under control as they reopen their stores and restaurants.   unless you're going to say CEO of Starbucks and Apple are communist party tools.

i also have a healthy bit of skepticism of  US government that continues to not recommend wearing a mask to avoid getting infected from a respiratory virus unless you are around someone who has the virus.  but how do you know the person next to you in the grocery store doesn't have the virus?   the actual reason to not recommend the mask is because  there simply aren't enough masks to protect the entire population and health care professionals.

that doesn't mean you can't take steps to protect yourself despite what the government is telling you.  it just means they don't want to cause a panic.

N95 masks do help prevent transmission but there's not enough now so they tell us not to bother - total BS.

i have gone through N95 fitting for my job and it is not a complicated process to get your mask fitted to your face though it would be tough to test it under the hood at your house.  still, for tasks like going out to the store to get groceries, i can't imagine why you wouldn't wear a mask if you have one to protect yourself and others given how widespread this is becoming.

meanwhile in china where PPE shortages were not an issue, you get arrested or even assaulted by your fellow citizens for going out in public without a mask on.  i go to the grocery store i am literally the only person wearing a mask now.  2 nursing homes in town have covid outbreaks.  i wonder how many staff members at those nursing homes shop at the grocery store?

The lack of basic protective devices is sadly appalling  and causing lot of panic among the populous.... Thermometers, wipes , sanitizers are  extremely hard to find, heck even Tylenol is going the way of the Doodoo . Masks are more like uniforms , the stuff of legend. I speak to patients over the phone on a daily basis, all of themeare extremely worried with what's happening in Detroit , many of them breakdown and start crying . Unless you are somehow involved, you might not be able to grasp the tragedy  of the situation .

I had to order a currently hard to find inhaler from a pharmacy in damn Texas , I am in Michigan , for a patient since my suppliers are out , only for the FedEx driver to refuse to deliver it for days because of the situation...

Not necessarily. But it’s entirely possible that those CEOs are being fed a Chinese government story.

On the flip side, Apple depends heavily on China, and I’m going to guess Starbucks either depends on China for production of paper products or China is a gadfly growing market for Starbucks. So they could be applying pressure in China to reopen to minimize affect on their bottom line.

i have 2 children who have SMA and are ventilator dependent now for several years.  once this started unfolding in January, i dropped several K to put in orders for a years worth of additional backup ventilator tubing along with hundreds of bags of sterile water on top of the supplies insurance provides along with all the other crap that goes with this just because i was concerned the supply line from china (which is where virtually all of this stuff is made) would dry up.  fears were prescient as now the medical supply company who provides insurance-paid for supplies is having difficult time locating these for patients already on vents and is asking patients to lengthen the interval at which the tubing is changed and providing smaller bags of sterile water which have to be changed several times a day instead of the larger bags that would last 2-3 days.

it's unfortunate that so much of the medical supply and pharmaceutical supply pipeline is outside the US.

lol- ok.  strawberry fields.  nothing is real.  Hormel, Phillips and Daimler CEOs are also part of the communist party too?

or maybe China is actually recovering because they could impose their will on the people without the hassle of a constitution.

Starbucks CEO is predicting the US is going to recover roughly along the same time line that China is.

Not really surprising, we all know the elite have their own set of rules and morals.  Look at all the celebrities getting tests when they aren't even symptomatic yet others are being turned down with fevers and breathing problems.  Just read about the backlash that Mark Wahlberg and Mario Lopez are getting because they were vocal about people sheltering in place and staying home, then proceeded to go to the gym and make a video about excercises you can do at home.

Or all those NBA players even though they did not show any symptoms.  Complete and total BS

Sorry but most of those CEO's have no idea whats going on in China other then what their being fed by the Chinese.  Same with the news org. that you listed, most of them are full of crap anyways.  Considering China is the one that made light of it in the beginning, why anyone should trust them now is foolish.

Hassle of a Constitution?  What the actual hell????

CDC urges residents of New York, New Jersey and Connecticut to not travel

CDS URGES - CDC should have been already at highest alert and implementing a martial epidemic state of law given under the circumenstances. God be with you

I have two kids who suffer from CP and with that comes an underdeveloped immune system, so every day when I come back from work , I need to undergo a thorough cleaning before I interact with the kids, and even with that you cant but help worry if that is a sound thing to do. You see pictures of all these doctors and nurses camping in their own garage and something that seemed to be a crazy thought just 4 weeks ago, looks like a smart idea all of a sudden.

I can confirm the shortages of masks and similar protective devices.  My sister is a nurse and is in charge of 80-100 home health aides.  These nurses are responsible for hundreds of older, compromised or handicapped individuals.  She said that it's a mess right now and many nurses ran out of masks and other items a week ago.  Jaisonline stopped by my business the other day and I gave him 100 masks for his wife, who is a doctor in Philly.  I was happy to help him, but I was so upset that these professionals cannot get the most basic items to protect them and to stop the spread of the virus.  There is no reason why we are having these issues at this point with the companies this country has at its disposal.

To be fair, CDC does not have the power to do diddly squat as far as forcing people to do anything.  Their #1 priority was creating those test kits and they failed miserably at their jobs

Please don't start with CNN.  They are fear porn professionals.  There is NO martial law.  They are telling people to stay where they are.  Too many affluent people are blowing out of NY to their shore homes in Long Island and NJ and to the Pocono mountains and Florida.  There is a decent chance they are infected and will only make things worse.

regarding CDC shouts.. that was what I meant intentionally. i do not realy know how your legislature works.. it was just a "shout" considering that the lowest / first line exposed workers would give.Still I am totally horrified of the current lack of xtra precautions, lack of the med supplies etc in your country.. you are going to go down a big.. sorry for that.. but given all the details based on the Italian and Spanish scenario.. and your president.. you are going to see at least 350.000 infected in 2-3 weeks.. and im really sorry for that.

That's whats frustrating about the whole thing is the lack of supplies for medical staff and those that actually need it.  Went to Home Depot today to get supplies and they didn't even have any full body suits that you would use for painting (I was buying one to crawl around in the attic running wires).  Why there aren't millions of these going out to medical staff is beyond me.  Even in our small area here there aren't any masks to be found.

<Tinfoil hat on> How many of those supplies are being bought & stockpiled by the (older) ultra wealthy population?  They should have enough money to outbid the states or even federal government.  Those older rich people should be scared shitless of COVID19

Yeah, you don't seem to know alot about how things here work yet always seem to have an opinion.  Stop it with the political crap, pretty sure we were all warned.  350,000 infected???  You do realize that's not that many and more then likely we already have many times that infected.

look.. Czech Rep. is a small country.. but we have been able to establish some emergency flown-in respirators mouth covers and such .. I believe the total amount pers last 2 weeks (from China) was something around 5 mil. respirators, 20 mils of mouth covers. Expenses (payments) including the cargo shipment somewhere around 100 mil USD. Delivery times since placing the order 3-5 days. now scheduled cargo flights 3 times a week.. Besides the mouth covers and respirators there are also tens of mils of hand gloves and tens of thousand of body protective suits. So.. there are really easy options how to get PROTECTIVE STUFF from China.. if you want.

I don't think you need a tinfoil hat for that, I'm sure it's a lot.  Other option is there out there yet misplaced, held up or "forgotten about" much like the ventilators Cuomo was complaining about needing yet already had.

luckily,   in the US, we have a constitution that protects citizens against the government from doing this.

i'm not sure how china made light of it when they opened up the involuntary virus containment centers where people who tested positive were committed to against their will to halt the spread of the virus.

lol - yeah Apple CEO Tim Cook is a complete idiot.  he knows nothing.

so  we are left with porous stay at home self quarantine measures that is not really halting spread.

but we are free to hit up dollar general.

Sorry, I'll take the Constitution any day of the week.  Feel free to move to China if it makes you feel safer though.

Accurate about what?  I cannot suggest any US news site that is honest and doesn't spin.  What I do know is CNN is all about making the situation sound worse than it is.  That is how they get ratings and make money.  Death count meters and graphics all day, every day?  BREAKING NEWS every 5 minutes.  Seriously.  Did they do that for H1N1?  No.  Please, there will be no CNN promotion on this website.
